Hi! I think this post because now we know at 9 I would like to know that fellow companions were canceled in "DAI" because you can not have 20 or because there are ideas that do not turn out so good.
If Allan Schumacher (or other) would be so kind to answer...
For now I ask a question
What would you like to see companions "a future Dragon Age"?
Sorry for my English
COMPANIONS CANCELED? COMPANIONS DA4?

It's hard to say what companions we want in a future DA game when we haven't even played through the upcoming one.

I will worry about that after DAI and dlc have been released

Are you asking for information on companions that didn't make it into the final cut for DAI....?

I think they're asking which companions were planned or got scrapped to make room for the ones we have now, and then, what kind of companions we want to see in the future.

Chances are that any companion ideas that got scrapped did so at an early enough stage that they couldn't be considered full characters. Maybe rough ideas, at best. They might have been folded into the characters that we do have. They might have been rewritten as non-companions. Or maybe they just won't exist at all, and that's okay too.
I doubt the devs are going to tell us anything about this, because nobody wants the world to see their rough draft. Especially in an ongoing series, when scrapped ideas could always be picked up and reworked down the line.

Bioware is definitely NOT going to tell you which potential companions were left out or scrapped from DAI.

We know from GaymerX that one or more characters didn't make it.
I would also not expect BioWare comment because why should they, that's not a fair request.
There was a leak of a survey in 2012:
http://www.insidegam...ters-and-title/
Which featured 8 characters for feedback purposes.
Those characters include 6 that are now familiar to us:
(Upper l/r: Blackwall (probably), Josephine, Dorian,
(Lower l/r: Cassandra, Cullen & Sera.

Please note, this is 2 years ago, the characters are well formed and mostly recognisable.
There were 2 characters we are not familiar with who I expect didn't make it, but that's ok because I'm sure BioWare kept the best.

EDIT and speculation:
The final two appear to be mages. they may have become Solas and Vivienne as these seemingly human characters may not have been sufficiently distinct.

Aren't those last two just the male and female inquisitor?
Yes that's perfectly possible, though I had dismissed it because the player will largely determine their PC appearance in the character creator so why ask about it in a survey unless this is a marketing survey pre-assessing box art, but then why 2 years before for designing box art. That's why I thought alternate characters.
Actually their similar costumes does give some support your point.

It was a marketing survey, so it's probably fair to say that they wanted to know if the "face" of the game would be appealing. Especially since they might have been considering doing what they did with DA2, making default Hawke have a distinct appearance that would appear on all their marketing. They appear to have gone a different route now, since every Inquisitor we've been shown has been different. But they have the green glowing hands that only the Inquisitor is supposed to have, and the dude is wearing the same crown that the Inquisitor is shown wearing in other concept art, so it seems the most likely to me.
You do bring up an interesting point, though. They had these characters planned out for 2 years. Probably any abandoned character concepts were scrapped a very, very long time ago.

That stuff also existed when we were releasing in 2013.
As for cut character stuff, I don't know the answer and wouldn't share it if I did because people would draw their own conclusions. It's a bit like Jerry Seinfeld talking about what he thinks about the "Seinfeld today" twitter accounts, where mere concepts get posted and he's just "Yeah people run with their imaginations but sometimes stuff just isn't funny when you try fleshing it out."
I could say this character had X, and someone who really wants X will be like "CUTTING THAT WAS THE WORST DECISION EVER" but have no context for why it was cut and so forth.

I'll bite. I would love to see a female companion that is quietly competent and a stealth asset. I'm not talking Leliana, because one way or another, she's perfect. I hope Sera comes through.

I'd like to see a more traditional dwarf warrior companion. Maybe a tank this time. Oghren is still easily my favorite Dragon Age companion, including what I've seen about the new ones for DA:I.

I started typing something and stopped because of snark. I enjoy talking to companions that don't belittle the PC. If they manage it this time or next I'll shut my mouth.

What would you like to see companions "a future Dragon Age"?
Indeed an answer would be nice (from the devs)
As for your other question:
I would still like a female Magister (like a Tevinter version of Morrigan - without being antagonistic/defensive all the time)
and I would like a female version of Zevran (at least in a way, a female assassin who was not forced into becoming one, but in a way likes her job, is not averse to use sex etc. to get close to her target, while also having strong morals like "I don't kill children" or something like that)

Bioware is definitely NOT going to tell you which potential companions were left out or scrapped from DAI.
Probably because those would have been companions we would of liked to have and not the generic stereotypic list they gave us.

that is exactly the type of reaction they want to avoid. People tend to have the "grass is always greener" kind of outlook on cut content.

For future games I'm hoping for a recently mortalized Shayle Cadash, with her story revolving coming to grips with being mortal again.

I'd love to read all about content that was cut, but I understand why that often isn't revealed. In a series like Dragon Age content that ends up cut may end up in a sequel in some form. If there were any potential companions that were discussed at some point but didn't make DA:I, its always possible that some version of those characters could make it into a DLC or the next Dragon Age game. If the character concept had the potential to be interesting and just wasn't a good fit for DA:I, or perhaps there were already too many companions, why toss out that concept completely? It might be a better fit for the next game.
