Back in the early 90s, Microprose released a little-known game called Lightspeed; a short time after, an expanded version called Hyperspeed was released). Lightspeed/Hyperspeed was a flight simulator/space exploration game that featured space combat, diplomacy, trading, a relatively sophisticated upgrade/inventory system, etc. The relatively unoriginal premise was that after Earth had become a wasteland due to overpopulation and pollution, humanity has to find a new planet to settle on. The player's job is to find such a world and gather the resources necessary to establish a viable colony. To do this, you'll need to explore different star systems, forge alliances, wage wars, etc.
Despite the primitive polygonal graphics, the gameplay had quite a bit of depth to it. Unlike most space flight simulators, your ship (called the Trailblazer) was very slow and not particularly maneuverable; fortunately, neither were most of the enemies you fought. This meant that combat was more a matter of good tactics and having the right equipment, and less a matter of having good reflexes and hand/eye coordination. It was a totally different kind of flight simulator experience, and one that to my knowledge hasn't been replicated in any game since.
I'm pretty sure the game is abandonware at this point, but the copy protection is a major pain in the butt; I was never able to find good copy of the manual floating around the internet. Anyways, the point is that I'd really like to see a sequel or even a reboot of this game, even though I know the chance of this happening is pretty close to zero.
What is it with people responding to half-year's old posts is my question? What is it with people insisting that anyone who disagrees with their position shouldn't be able to post in a thread?

I'm still surprised that a VtmB sequel hasn't been on Kickstarter, or something.
