You will need:

2 cups flour (Plus more for dusting)

180g butter (plus more for greasing tray)

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp sugar

1 jar of apple sauce

4 apples

1/3 cup water

An oven

A rolling pin

A large mixing bowl

A large cutting board

Pie ring/ flan ring (no bottom)

A baking tray

Basting brush

A knife

A peeler

A big spoon

Method:

  1. Cut the butter into large cubes
  2. Put the flour into the mixing bowl
  3. Mix the sugar and salt into the flour
  4. Add the butter cubes to the flour and make sure each one is covered in flour
  5. Add some of the water and squish the mixture together.
  6. Keep adding water and squishing until you are happy
  7. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (bake)
  8. Dust the large chopping board and rolling pin
  9. Roll out the pastry until the pie/flan ring can fit comfortably inside it
  10. Roll half the pastry around the rolling pin
  11. Grease and dust the baking tray with flour and butter
  12. Place the pie ring on the baking tray
  13. Pick up the pastry (which should still be around the rolling pin), and, while holding the roller on the rolling pin steady, roll it over the pie ring
  14. Push the pastry gently so that it fits into the pie ring
  15. Remove the outer bits (the bits that aren't in the ring)
  16. Baste the pastry by spreading apple sauce all over it (don't use it all up!)
  17. Peel and cut the apples and fill the pie with them
  18. Spread apple sauce on top with the back of a big spoon
  19. Put two knobs of butter on top if you have
  20. Put the pie in the oven and bake until golden brown

Once you have your pie, throw it at your computer! Everything looks better with apple sauce!

If you don't want to make your computer all sticky, grab the toolset and add cats and flowers and grass to the place! They are sorely needed!

Thanks for sharing your recipe.  I will be making pie next time to fortify me for the deep roads.  I usually rub the butter in first so I don't wind up with butter cubes coated in play-doh, but the applesauce idea looks fantastic.
