This post is a refuge against grumpy and angry comment on the forum (which can happen pretty much any day).

I think it's important that we don't get too snarky because it's not fun.

People are excited about the game, I get it (I am).

How do you find your inner calm as release slowly approaches?

Calming countdown links:

San Diego Comic-Con: http://days.to/until/24-july

Gamescom: http://days.to/until/13-august

Pax Prime: http://days.to/until/29-august

Montreal Comiccon: http://days.to/until/12-september

Edmonton Expo: http://days.to/until/26-september

DAI (NA): http://days.to/until/18-november

DAI (EU-AU): http://days.to/until/20-november

DAI (UK-NZ): http://days.to/until/21-november

These are techniques & considerations that help me:

1. Calm is good. In the face of snarkiness I will be calm. Picture of calm otter (breathes out)

seacalm.jpg

2. I don't really need to know about that unreleased feature or romance.

Really I don't. It will release without me knowing just fine. I can't play it until it's out, so wanting to know is not the same as needing to know. Release day will arrive no more quickly if I know everything. And a lot will still release before then.

3. Lack of information does not mean it sucks.

I'm not going to get worried that not knowing all the answers automatically means it's bad - I could spend much of my life worrying about what I don't know, and I don't know rather a lot. There still more weeks for reveals.

4. The game's done - there's only finishing up and bug fixing.

So I'm not going to get worked up about what I want to be in it, or endlessly blame BioWare for anything I might not like in any Dragon Age or Mass Effect game. And not everything that might have only 3 choices is bad.

Here are three colourful calm otters to choose from, which will you choose?

pick.jpg

5. Bullying BioWare devs and writers for answers doesn't work and makes folk annoyed.

How often did a round of 'Biower pls' actually mean a dev/writer then said: 'sure, here's that feature I'm sharing it with you now...'
(at least before the time they are allowed to share it).
If it's not never, it's close to it. So I'm not going to ask. Else the devs & writers won't visit at all, like on other game boards.

6. I'm really not going to feed the troll.

They post that they didn't like DAO or DA2 and that DAI won't be any good. I could ask why are they spending their time on a BioWare forum, but actually I'm not going to waste my time. That will maintain my calm.

7. Favourite the trailers and demos and the forum.

You've done this already haven't you? Conference panel q&a's & game sites are good.

And so long as this forum is not overrun by the cynics and the trolls this will be a nice place too.

What are you doing to keep yourself sane and happy these last few weeks?

*EDIT to OP to address November delay.

We had 2 years to fill the appreciation threads. What are we going to discuss now? It's like we are all married, we can only bicker and say how much everything sucks. :P

I choose the red otter, because the green otter makes no sense, and the blue otter makes me a hypocrite.

I agree in some points, but disagree in others.

Yes, no one should bully any bioware employes, that's just not nice.

However, why are you attacking people that ask questions just because we "Don't NEED to know all the answers!" and "The game will come out if you know it's features or not."

Yes, it will still come out. But if people will buy it is an entirely different question. I get that you yourself have made your decision allready, that doesn't mean everybody has.

Why are we on a Bioware forum. Well because we have hope for the game for once. We just don't take it for granted that it will be worth out purchase and want to made an informed decision. 60 Euros is a lot of money.

There is a lot of information about very important gameplay mechanics of the game, which has just not been shared yet and some of those mechanics, like the tactical ai customisation, crafting or inquisition managment can really make or break the game.

A lot of people still have a lot of questions and they are asking them here. And then you come here and tell us we shouldn't.

Why? This place exists so that we can ask questions about the game, i see no reason why we shouldn't do exactly that.

good post I agree with you OP
we really need new info again

they need to tell us the remaining LI's so that discussion can be closed

they should show us the Skyhold and finally they should release the Keep that will keep people occupied

and also build the hype even more

Well, I keep my hype pretty easily in check because about 9 out of 10 of these threads are likely too spoilerific to be read.    I am one of those that don't want to know ANYTHING about the content portion of the game beforehand.     I don't even want to know who the companions are or what they look like.    So let's just say I don't browse by here much anymore and when I do I have to pick the threads I read with great care.

controlling aggression: Step 1) log into EVE, Step 2) shout at corp mates till we get a roam going, step 3) blow up someone's space pixels and harvest the tears.  ofc this means avoiding step 2.5) welp horribly into a hostile gate camp and assplode :/

I wish the game came out on publishing time. On Monday, I start proofing/editing November content and just finished up October content for one of our accounts. The other one is finalizing August and getting ready to ramp up into September. Either way, my professional life is already much closer to release (or past it) than reality ...

The point is not to never ask questions. It's to not get frustrated, angry, or aggressive when the developers aren't ready to release information that you want. If you are still undecided because you don't have certain information, there is no harm in waiting until after the release to make your purchasing decision.

I totally agree. Some gamers seem to think that if they don't know all there is to know about a game months before release they somehow are robbed of being able to decide if a game is for them or not. What happened to playing a game some time after release when you do have all the details?

If knowing information is a big deal before purchase:

1. Wait until the release reviews come out

2. Buy or not.

Why wait till reviews are out, I already know the ratings. It's 9.5/10

Actually I know the review too.

"This game isn't GTA so we can't give a 10, but a 9.5 will do nicely! Enjoy!"

I find most metacritic scores more or less line up to my personal views, with a few exceptions...

My process is to read the reviews that ridicule the game and work my way up. People give zeros when there is an obvious problem. Google the problem, check the high rating reviews. Do they report these problems? If no then I call bullshit. if yes I continue the process.

Can't say I find metacritic any different than the others.

Not a huge fan of metacritic, particularly when it comes to games released by larger publishers. The reviews tend to be full of people who either hate or love the publisher rather than people who've played the game.

I'm all about the blue otter, because blue is the most soothing color and it fulfills all my otter needs without any nasty side-effects.

How dare you, you cur! That otter is adorable and deserves all of the paragon cuddles.
