Most of the time, chaotic good. In Thedas, this is usually set up as the most idealistic route.

I do enjoy the occasional lawful evil, Byronic sort of figure.

True Neutral. My favourite characters to roleplay are usually loyal only to themselves and the people who follow them.

I don't  know. The character I'm starting of as is a firm believer of The Maker and The Chantry, but as a noble himself, he hates seeing all of the injustice done to the poor and city elves. He feels sympathy for the mages, but believes that there is no other realistic alternative other than The Circle.

I'm a big fan of Chaotic Good myself. Nuts to the law if the law sucks.

True neutral, every time.

My inquisitor is based off of myself, and if we were to create real life equivalents of the alignments, TN would be mine more likely than not.

I'm going to say True Neutral crossed with Chaotic Good. A bit of an ends justifies the means sort of person. Want to get this situation fixed, as quick as possible, with anyone who gets in the way dealt with. The sooner it's fixed, the more people that's going to be saved.

What would be the alignment for a man who would use force and intimidation (and by that meaning, making brutal examples of his enemies, culling the weak, mercy killing and such) to advance the good of all? Necessary evil kind, but for good of the whole and not for selfish reasons.

Lawful Evil? Chatic Good? Lawful Neutral?

My Inquisitor's alignment depends on my companions views (most liked companions). I don't want to lose their approval and I don't want to lose them. I guess I'll have to play as neutral good Inquisitor... at least on my 1st playthrough. After that- pure roleplaying and my favourite alignment- neutral evil.

Neutral Evil 1st.

Chaotic Neutral 2nd.

OP : I find chaotic the most difficult to play. A good execution of it can make it very interesting though. I find lawful good nauseating but my previous SWTOR play through was of that alignment

My alignment in everything is always the same , i hate leaning towards Overly good or overly evil , i believe i would be classified as Chaotic Neutral.

The Warrior , Does What he wants when he wants and whatever he thinks is the best outcome for a situation , generally good , won't kill civilians / the unarmed , but has no qualms about breaking the rules/laws to get the job done , beating information out of someone etc. Slavers/Smugglers/ General criminal scum are generally dealt with or just flat out killed. Example - Bandit and his group attacks , they lose and the few left alive beg for the lives ? , they are killed , they made the choice to attack this is the outcome of it. Has Strong loyalties to his friends / allies. Could list dozens more but that's just a small tidbit

So yea i believe that would be some version of Neutrality , Chaotic i believe.

Warden: Neutral Good, Deceased
Orlesian Warden: Lawful Good
Hawke: True Neutral / Neutral Evil

Inquisitor: Chaotic Good (Lawful in the sense that he is the new law)

Probably Neutral Good, which is how I usually lean in most games when given a choice. Though, my primary Hawke did lean towards Chaotic Good at times.

No moral compass.

Does not do evil for the sake of evil (chaotic evil?)

But will not hesitate to sacrifice anything or anyone standing in her way.

Tries to use the law as a shield and to hide own ambition and acts of malevolence, and wants order (for the sake of domination through control) but will not be limited by the law to exert her will (will go around the law when needed to reach personal goals).

---

Does this make my character lawful or neutral evil? The need and want for law is there but not restrained by it.

I think the worse thing D&D did for roleplaying was creating alignments. They are a terrible guide as people just don't break down like that, they are more complex and their motivations are far more important than some artifical two axis scale.

Well they are just guidelines right? But I agree the system is flawed in some ways.

If a priest runs and orphanage and has saved the life of countless innocent homeless children, then goes on a trip to the mountains and kills someone just for fun - then how do one judge his allignment? The latter is chaotic evil in nature.

Internal and external factors. Are you evil or good based on your own opinion of yourself in said actions or judged externally by others / the world?
What moral system are you judged by? Virtue ethics? Utilitarian? There are many moral philosophies.
Culture. What is evil in one culture can be good in another.
Moral nihilism http://en.wikipedia..../Moral_nihilism : If personal belief is that morals is a human invention and construct. Who has the right to force the labels of good and evil upon you unwantedly?

It's just for fun.  It's a simple way to make a baseline for a new character.  Many people use the process trying to come up with motivations and attitudes of characters they make.
