Also, you can drink at 18 in England, so it's a non-issue anyway.

Anyway - between 20 and 40 is what has been said. About time we got a protagonist with a few years of experience under their belt. In my mind, there's absolutely no way the Inquisitor is anywhere under 30. The majority of our companions are older (and wiser) this time around, as well.

Oh, I thought in England it was the same like here in Belgium. Beer and stuff when you're 16 years old and stronger alcoholic beverages like whisky for example when you're 18.

On topic: I always imagined my pc being around 25 years old. Seems like a decent age to me.

Not if you're a Circle mage.

I want to play a mage who's old, I don't like playing young magic users.

^^

Strange, I myself prefer young protagonists (under 30 - like myself) because I can relate to them better.

As for someone saying:

People over 40 have families and children - not really, that's just a stereotype that we have (I for one don't plan on having any children...and I wont get married either)

greetings LAX

ps: sorry, but stereotypes do ****** me off (you might be unable to totally avoid them, but you can at least try)

Given the wide range they talked about there, I doubt there'll be anything that really explicitly conflicts if you want to think of your PC as outside.  But the dialogue will probably be written with the assumption that the PC is in the same sort of age range as most of the companions and younger than Solas and Blackwall

As far as how they look their age, I know somoone who went bald at 25 and people thought he was older.  But on the other hand when he was in his 40's people thought he looked in his 30's.  I got carded when I was 30.  I'm short, have a round face and, well I did wear my hair in pig tails at the time.  And I have good genes.  People thought my grandmother at 60 was 40 and my mother.

I'll make my inquisition look the way I want and not worry about the age they are supposed to be.  They had a hard life or they have good genes.  Will also depend on the backstory for me.

I don't understand people thinking 40s is old...like, it's not, at all.

I'm only 21, but the older I get the more I realize just how incredibly young video game characters are. There are so few protagonists that are at an actually reasonable age for the things they're accomplishing, especially in Japanese games. I find it refreshing that the majority of companions in this game are out of their 20s, and I'm glad we can have our Inquisitor also be a little older. But it would be cool to go up to 60s.

I agree. I used to think 18 was perfectly old enough for protagonists in video games, and over 20 was perfectly old enough to act as mature as can be. Now... 20 is young. 20 year olds are still quite immature and cocky. Now I like to have characters who are at least 25. Not to say I'm an old fogey, I'm only 25 myself. Wait a minute... That's the age I just said I liked. Guess my preferred age for video game characters is going to keep going up with my own age. 10 years from now it's going to be even weirder than now for me to be playing JRPGs and stuff where people over 20 are rare.

It is interesting how perspective changes. 20 is barely an adult, whereas I used to think that was plenty old enough.

I'd love if I can be starting to Grey at the temples, since both my father and his father started greying in their twenties.

In the Japanese version he's 17 though.

Boy, people like to take things way to literally, my comment was meant in jest. I am sure they don't really tell you how old your character is in the game at any point.

I think it's far more interesting to play an older, wiser character than a 20-40 year old.  Especially if he's supposed to lead an entire group of expert companions as well as the whole Inquisition. I think someone 45-60 would be cooler.  A Loghain aged character perhaps.

Exactly. I am tired of always playing that young 20-something dudebro. I want to create a female and male Inquisitor who is 50 years old, experienced and ready to lead an important faction.

Playing the typical 28 year old or 32 year old is just so generic in videogames....

The Inquisitor is the closest Age to myself. Thus, 20 Years old.

I can't play People outside of a - say - 12 Years Range from myself. 30 Would be my absolute highest Immersion Age. Everything else makes roleplaying somewhat uncomfortable. Somewhat akin to playing Character with another sexual Orientation than myself. I then get the Feeling that I can't authentically represent the Character as he is envisioned.

I hope it's not brought up in-game at all so I can have my desired young, 20-something attractive person and others can play the age they want. I have no interest in playing as an older character. 20-40 is a decent range I think.
