So as we get closer and closer to October, I find myself thinking more and more about my Inquisitor and their outfitting. I try to avoid story elements, as they're usually spoilery, so I'd rather use this time we have left to speculate and plan my Inquisitors; just about anything about them.

So we know the game has an in depth crafting system, in addition to the loot system we've come used to. What's interesting this time around is there is no class-armor restrictions. There are armors with stat restrictions, which can pretty much stop a Mage or Rogue from wearing Warrior's armor or vice versa. Based on interviews and stuff, the developers said that we can craft a certain class armor to LOOK like another class' armor, while maintaining the stats of necessary for your original class. If that sounded confusing, let me break it down through an example-

Say you are a Mage who wants to make new armor that looks like Rogue armor. If you gather the right materials to craft it, you can make Mage armor that looks like Rogue armor, while requiring the Magic Stat to equip it instead of the Dexterity Stat that's normally associated with Rogue armors.

So have any of thought about what styles of armor you want to equip on your Inquisitors? Do you want to stay within the traditional look of your class? Do you want to branch out and make unconventional armors for you class?

As much as I adore the cool Mage gear we've seen so far, I do love the idea of my Mage Inquisitor being outfitted in a nice, heavy set of armor like shown in this trailer;

The Warrior Inquisitor in the PAX/Digiexpo demo wasn't especially heavily armored. I'd like that sort of look for my Mage Inquisitor; a long coat with a high collar, thigh-high boots, clawed gauntlets, and a breastplate.

True but then again they might make some Mage gear give off a Heavy armor look

I'm very much looking forward to outfitting my mages with non-traditional mage outfits though I do like the default mage outfits this time around. I just really disliked the long skirt robes for mages in DAO and Awakening, DA2 was an improvement. It just didn't seem practical to me that one would wear an ankle length dress while running around fighting baddies, seems far more practical to have some sort of pants or such which provide freedom of movement.

One of the pieces of information im trying to figure out is what will qunari head gear be, it was said that qunari dont wear helmets (which disappoints me) but it also makes me wonder what the head piece will be.

People have speculated circlets but in this concept art:

Spoiler

we see that this isnt the case. My mind also goes to what the Arvaarad was weaing but i'd call that a helmet as well so im kind of lost as to what they wear.

I dont think they'd only get bandannas or face paint with stats because it wouldnt be fair for every race to get some sort of headwear except qunari

And it role-plays quite nicely with anyone using the Knight Enchanter specialization. Which I may very well do, but I gotta check out what the Fade specialization is all about first.

As I recall, Arvaarad's "helmet" didn't full connect with the back of his head and neck like a typical helmet would. It was like a iron/steel mask, leaving the back of his head and neck exposed.

Though I'm sure his horns do a fine job covering up that exposed area.

Yeah in the first half he was pretty lightly armored, something you'd expect from a rogue fighter. The second half of the demo they stated they were much further into the game, where they showed off the big bulky set of armor.

Thats what i meant by "i'd call it a helmet" i may be wrong and they may call it something else, but its pretty much a helmet

Hmm... I'm thinking a dark black and blue robe-like overcoat with the inquisitor's insignia on the back, silver claw-like gauntlets, black boots, and a dark hood that cast a shadow over the character's eyes. If you can change the color of the armor that is what I picture. :)

Well what I absolutely won't do is like for example in Skyrim, mixing single parts of armor just to have the best stats. I prefer my armor pieces to fit aesthetically thank you very much. And for some reason I don't really like mages in heavy armor.

Definitely going to have my mages is decent looking armor, no robe crap. I would prefer to try to get an armor that looks as much like the Champion mage armor as possible, because that was pretty much perfect for looking like truly functional armor that looks fitting on a mage. I know nothing like that will be in DAI, but I just want to try to get something close to that. I don't want my mage in what I would exactly call heavy armor either, the Champion mage armor was certainly not heavy looking.

Failing that look, the Warden mage outfits in DA2 were pretty good too. They also looked functional and well armored despite being fairly light and mobile looking. I especially liked the chain-mail under the cloth section. Lining cloth with chain-mail underneath certainly goes a long way to making armor look like it can protect you while still being quite mobile and breathable. So if I can make a nice looking armor with chain-mail lining it, that will also be quite appealing.

For rogues, I want something truly roguish, or assassin looking. Not just typical light armor, something actually stylish or intimidating. Once again, Champion armor (rogue version) gives a good idea of that. I think the light armors in Demon's and Dark Souls are what I have in mind.

Dreadscale from Kingdoms of Amalur is also nice.

I know, I know... All I've posted is intimidating stuff. Where's the stylish stuff? How about some of the light stuff from Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen?

(GOD do I love armor in that game...)

As for warriors, anything that looks heavy but not so bulky that it's ridiculous. And not super flashy, some solid plate-mail looks great already. And not spiky. I hate overtly spiky armor. I'm not too picky about warrior armor. Actually though, I'm not totally needing it to look that heavy. The knight and fluted sets from the Souls games would look great on a warrior, simple and styling.

If I can get my Inquisitors looking like that stuff above, I will be a happy person.

Without having seen many of the armors available it's really hard to actually judge this. There are a lot of factors that may sway people's opinions if given the right BA set.

My warrior will end up in the Flames of the Inquisition Armor as of right now. I'd love a Varric-esque duster for my rogue. Can't say what my mage will wear however.

I really loved the champion mage armor from DA 2, so much so that I got a mod for Origins so my Dalish rogue and human arcane warrior could wear it, in addition to several mods for DA 2 that made it available right away for each class (with appropriate stats), but was scaled to my level. It looks great for any class, really.

I'm sure ill find something I love in inquisition as well, and with the crafting system I won't have to resort to mods to get the look I want.

Other than the Platemail & Furs combo for the Warrior, I'd like to have the scabbard and Sheild combined into a singular item.

As long as it's nor Orlesian or the advertisement armor. I dunno, I like armor with less... 'stuff' poking out from it. Stuffs supposed to deflect/soak up blows, not make it hard to walk past a bush. I do like the Iron Bulls stuff though. My main is gonna be patterned after my Barb/Psion from DnD which used a Breastplate. So... heavy armor that looks as close to something like that? Think less brass spartan, with more metal and actually waring pants... a Dark Age/Medieval variant on spartany armor?

Well since you can wear anything you want regardless of class, people can go ape, i guess :P

I wonder when are we going to see the first screenshot of a warrior in a pink fluffy dress, cutting through enemies!

As for me, i have a think for heavy armor, maybe together with a long waistcloth or coat-that-works-as-a-cape, even half robe. I'm gonna play a KE or a Reaver, but will wear the same regardless ;p

I generally like medium armors. Something like a Hardened breastplate over mail, or a Chainmail Hauberk-Haubergeon with a pauldron-Gorget assembly is a look I've always liked.

That look is typically a warrior look, though I definitely think it'd work on a Knight Enchanter.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the Inquisitor's heavy armour will look like this time around. I'm a big fan of how it appeared in the PAX demo last year, and I love the Inquisition insignia embossed across the chest.
