Seriously im not even kidding I dont know the exact time scale but I was led to believe it was over 10 years since DA:O at the end of Dragon Age 2, so unless DA:I is starting in the middle of that time frame, a lot of time has passed between 1 of 3 scenarios, those being the Warden and Alistair marry and ascend to the throne, Alistair marries Anora, or Warden marries Anora. Either situation, the Warden or Alistairs chances of having off-spring become smaller and smaller after the joining. Alistair is the last of Calenhad's line, he has to sire a child, if its going to happen it would have to happen sooner than later right? One of DA:I's promises was showing the effects our decisions had on the world based on what we did in previous games, while other players are more concerned about the present in DA:I im more interested in that previous statement of my previous decisions.

In the case of Anora and Warden, i always felt the pairing was too political, yes it might have started out that way but if the option was ever given you could bet i would have prefered they eventually actual come to love one another and from that create a new dynasty in Ferelden, lets pretend that Wardens and non Warden couples have a higher chance for producing off-spring (I believe that was the example given us at some point.) this would be my primary goal

While slim I'd see the best outcome Alistair and Warden as my 2nd favorite option, but would understand if the likelihood of parenthood wasn't possible and that was explained in DA:I

While my least favorite option of Alistair and Anora being similar to the first in possibility of offspring, I don't like it since Alistair was pretty clear on his opinions of Anora and that kind of relationship seems destined for turbulence especially with a hardened Alistair who keeps a female Warden as his court mistress, despite how I feel about Anora I wouldn't want that to hang over her anyway.

even if only a passing blurb, or a small letter of congratulations that we pen to the ruling couple, I'd like that bit of closer that Ferelden wont have to worry about a fierce power-struggle in the near future as no heir is left to take the throne when the ruling couple dies.

Well, if you got with Morrigan you have a baby... But that baby is still too young to figure into the plot yet I believe.

Didn't Gaider say that Alistair (and/or Anora?) never have a child (except potentially Alistair's OGB via Morrigan's ritual) no matter what you do?

Wasn't it rumoured that Anora was incapable of having children? Don't get me wrong, it'd cool for the Calenhad line to be continued but I vaguely remember something like that rumour.

Hm...

I don't know - while I remember him saying that he has the obligation to father a child, he didn't sound like he really wanted to (why do people assume that wanting children is the norm? - More so, If you don't have a long live anyway (the taint!)?)

I'm pretty sure there will be no heir to the throne of Ferelden no matter what monarch or combination therof we chose in DAO. (Other than the OGB if Alistair fathered him, but I expect that he'll have bigger fish to fry once he's of age.)

That's the whole point, it's not so much as Alistairs decision, when he became king, he was obligated to sire an heir some how least Arl Eamons whole speech about not letting Calenhad's legacy fall way side to Loghain's ambitions meant nothing. Even if Alistair doesn't want to be a father, that's fine, but him being selfish and not continuing his family's legacy is way out of character for a guy who was willing to sacrifice everything for duty. So whether he loved Anora, he would still feel the need to atleast keep the family bloodline going, and if not Anora there is the potential to have done so with a female Warden, elf or human.

This is just a sad line of thinking then. It's a terrible point in even settling the matter of the throne because alistair only has 20 years left if again DA:2 was a eclipse of 10 years. The Warden might as well have said Anora rules alone, because No one is going to keep Calenhad's legacy alive and the OGB doesn't exist from what we told wasn't it? The dark ritual isn't the default canon?

What if Alistair is dead and Warden isn't married to Anora (not all Wardens are male and human noble, after all)?

That would leave a very chaotic element than when Alistair finally dies as I don't see Anora or female Warden remarrying and both don't seem likely to have children for whatever reason.

He has 20 years left? He was like early 20s in DA:O and after DA2 events he would be like 27 or something, right?

Grey Wardens typically last to around their 30s so Alistair doesn't have much time left.

Calling it: Fergus Cousland will be new king.

Meanwhile Wardens son, Oghrens son/daughter, Connor/Rowan and Nathaniel Howes nephew will band together to takeover Thedas.

You heard it here first gentlemen.

I remember seeing this somewhere, but I can't find the quote at all.

What confuses me is that there's no indication that an Alistair who rules alone ever has a child (except for the OGB).  If he romanced your Warden, he dumped you (or tried to) because of the obligation to sire an heir.  And then he doesn't do it?  Ah, here.   Maybe we'll find out that he did marry someone and just never succeeded at having a child, though.  That Warden infertility...

Eh, can do some back of the hand calculations easily enough I guess.

These are roughly what I'd get for the odds for a fertile sexually active group not using contraception based on a 1 in 4 chance of becoming pregnant in any given month, (and thus a 75% chance not to become pregnant in any given month.)

Month 1 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.25
Month 2 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.4375
Month 3 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.578125
Month 4 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.68359375
Month 5 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.7626953
Month 6 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.8220215
Month 7 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.8665161
Month 8 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.8998871
Month 9 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9249153
Month 10 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9436865
Month 11 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.95776486
Month 12 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.96832365
Month 13 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9762427
Month 14 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.982182
Month 15 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9866365
Month 16 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9899774
Month 17 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9924831
Month 18 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9943623
Month 19 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9957717
Month 20 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.9968288
If we assume that Grey Wardens get significantly worse odds, like 1 in every 48. Then...

Month 1 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.020833313
Month 2 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.041232586
Month 3 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.061206877
Month 4 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.08076507
Month 5 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.0999158
Month 6 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.11866754
Month 7 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.13702863
Month 8 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.15500718
Month 9 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.17261118
Month 10 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.18984842
Month 11 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.20672655
Month 12 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.22325307
Month 13 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.23943526
Month 14 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.25528032
Month 15 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.2707953
Month 16 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.28598702
Month 17 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.30086225
Month 18 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.3154276
Month 19 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.3296895
Month 20 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.34365427
How many months do Anora and Alistair have to play with? Well, let's say we'll go out as far as 240 if the odds aren't looking favourable. That'll be our cap in that regard. And something like .8 ish in terms of probability.

Month 21 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.35732812
Month 22 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.3707171
Month 23 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.38382715
Month 24 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.39666408
Month 25 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.40923357
Month 26 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.4215412
Month 27 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.43359244
Month 28 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.4453926

[TARDIS]

Month 73 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.7849527
Month 74 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.7894328
Month 75 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.79381967
Month 76 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.7981151
Month 77 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.802321
Month 78 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.8064393
Month 79 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.81047183
Month 80 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.81442034
But then again we really don't know what the odds are for Grey Wardens. If there's a one in a thousand chance, then even after 20 years the chances are they still won't have a kid. That assumption gives you:

Month 240 chance of at least one pregnancy 0.2134642
:/ Assuming I got the maths right anyway.

Wasn't it that they have 30 years left after their Joining? Not that they only lived to 30.

I think he took that line to mean they die in their thirty's rather then dying thirty years from now like it was meant to mean.

If I come back any of my Ferelden's where Alistair married Anora and they have a child ... I'm just assuming it isn't his.

Not just Grey Warden odds. There's some probability that Anora has impaired fertility, since she went five years without conceiving. Unless that was her husband's problem.

Alistair says shortly after your joining at camp, during one conversation about Grey Wardens, "You have 20 to 30 years tops" I was under the impression to have 20 years after the joining, so if alistair was 20 something when he took the joining assuming he hadn't been a warden more than a year, alistair likely has 19 to 29 years of life before the taint completely takes him. Top it off my assumption was that the longer you've been a Warden the less likely you can produce offspring. So if Alistair was a Warden for a year, he likely doesn't have much more time left before he starts shooting blanks. I want to guess and this is all this is, is that after 5 or 6 years as a Warden you can't have kids at all.

That's Never been said, Alistair specifically says during the ending conversation that the chances for Two Grey Wardens having children are low, he never said it could NEVER happen, and the Warden hasn't even been a Warden all that long, less than year in fact.

it could have been just as likely that Kailin was screwing around and never hit it while she was primed for it. They were a young couple, and Anora basically ruled while Kailen did a lot of running around. I wouldn't be surprised if he was rarely at home or in their bed chambers. It was common knowledge that Kailen was fooling around with other women behind Anora's back.
