I know, as of right now, you cannot import saves from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 into Dragon Age: Inquisiton (due to the change of engine), but, what choices will you be making in Dragon Age Keep, and then, be importing into Dragon Age: Inquisition; assuming Keep has every (at least major) choice that can be made in Origins and Dragon Age 2?

Will you be importing a save similar or indentical to what you did in your playthroughs of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2? What were the choices you made exactly? Or, will you be changing it up, and have nothing like you had in the first 2 games of the series?

I want to upload the different Wardens and Hawkes that I created that fit the new Inquisitors that I will be creating. Problem is, how am I supposed to remember all tyhe characters I made over 400+ hours spread across 10 different characters? I'm stil unclear why the Keep isn't able to 'read' the choices from the previous games and translate it into something DA:I can understand. Youd imagine there is a basic checklist of 1 and 0 hidden beneath DA:O and DA2. I have plenty of apps on my phone that do an amazing job in sharing information. It really is beyond me why Bioware has such a problem because of 'engine'. I'm already invested in DA:I after reading the novels but they make it so hard for other peopel to get excited for DA:I....

I suspect a key of this will be to only note in the Keep those items you care about.
If you didn't care that x minor NPC lives or dies then you also won't care that you get to talk to them in DAI.

I jotted down my key choices and actually you get quite a long list quite quickly...

(Goes without saying that this whole thread is DAO/DA2 spoilerific)

I'll be importing a similar save. I considered importing an ultimate sacrifice warden but then I tried to play through the game using that path and I couldn't do it. I won't create a world state I couldn't have actually played through. As for the exact state of the world. Well as you know they are a lot of little decisions but in general my characters tended to help others rather then hurt them and the only thing I was left feeling a bit worried about was putting Beylin, that's probably spelled wrong, on the thrown. My characters were also all very much pro-mage and in every case except three mages. I played through as a human noble warrior a few times before deciding I like the mage more as well as Hawke.

A closer look sort of goes. Werewolves cured and problems with dalish resolved peacefully, sacred ashes found, dragon killed, Genitivi allowed to report on them, Redcliff saved with zero losses, Conner saved with help of circle mages Jowan sent back to the circle to answer for his actions, anvil destroyed, aeducan thrown maintained, soldiers peak retaken Avernus allowed to continue his studies humanely, circle saved, mages collective helped as much as possible, vigil's keep stood alone and survived, Warden's sword stolen kind of annoyed about that, black marsh fixed up as much as possible, castles honored for their defense of thaig and promoted to warrior cast, legion of the dead possibly being raised to a noble house and Hawke sided with the mages at every chance she got while defeating the Arishok in single combat to save Isabella.

As for the Warden and Hawke both are female mages.

I swear it's kind of funny to see how many big decisions the Warden got to make compared to what Hawke did. I guess that's the difference between saving a nation and a city state.

I plan on making the choices in the Keep align to my characters best as possible. The boon granted by the monarch should be in the keep. Hopefully all the choices and Origins.

The current plan for my canon world state(likely to not be my first Inquisitor because we have no idea the choices we can make and what choices actually mattered in previous games)

- Drunk Alistair

- Loghain alive

- Carver/Bethany(I haven't decided who yet) made a Warden

- Anders alive

- Leliana killed

- Marjolaine alive

- Warden is king

- Warden did Dark Ritual

- Warden went though mirror with Morrigan

- Architect alive

- Dwarves have Golems under Bhelen

- Both Dalish clans dead

Some of that will likely change if they're made irrelevant.  If Leliana never mentions her "dying", it becomes pointless to ever make that decision for world building, if a specific Warden hates Leliana still makes sense for him to kill her though.  If Marjolaine, The Architect, Loghain etc don't make an appearance again, doesn't matter if they're left alive or not since they don't show up either way.

It's not just because of the engine itself. It's also to avoid bugs in importing a certain save. I mean, DA2 already dealt with some bugs regarding choices made in Origins. Making something like the Keep would make it much easier to make sure that choices get imported correctly into the game, as it is a separate system from the game entirely, but also gives the player a nice list of the choices and such the ability to check everything.

For my first run through Inquisition, I'll recreate my favorite playthroughs as closely as possible within the limitations of the options and my memory.

The second, I'll tweak my decisions to have a 'perfect' run.

Everything after that, I'll just pick various scenarios to see what happens.

Some things are set in stone, like Alistair being executed, refusing the Dark Ritual, Hawke being a Templar (if you can mention his spec) and Templar supporter, etc... but after playing both games and seeing many variations on the story, there are some things that I haven't decided on, like Zevran and the Siblings' fates, or what overall path I want for the Warden.  I mean, I'll try to be consistent, but I could go either way with making him compassionate or ruthlesss/heartless (with things like the Dalish situation and Connor)...  So at this point I guess the answer is "I don't know."  I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what variables we can alter, though...

Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't even have a preference of class for the Warden... hm... maybe I played DA:O too many times, because I don't feel too attached to any specific version of the story.

Probably go for a bunch of different saves since it's hard for me to roleplay a totally ruthless character so the keep is going to make that easier for me. But there are a few things that don't change no matter what, like the Alistair being married to Anora (aside from one canon playthrough) Plan to make at least three of my world states similar to my choices in the last games and the rest will be different.

The choices from the past games I'm highly considering for my first run are:

DAO

-Female Mage Warden

Broken Circle

-Sided with the Circle

Arl of Redcliff

-Defended Redcliff

-Used bloodmagic to save Connor (killed the demon)

Nature of the beast

-Had the curse lifted

Urn of Sacred Ashes

-Slayed the dragon Cult and the High Dragon

-Did not defile the ashes

A Paragon of Her Kind

-Put Belhen on the throne

-Destroyed the Anvil

-Sent Dagna to the Circle

-(not sure if important but released a pride demon)

The Landsmeet

-Married Anora and Alistair

-Made Loghain a Warden

Battle for Denrim

-Had Loghain preform the DR

-Killed the generals before heading to the archdemon

-Asked to have the circle freed.

Companions

-Had everyone's loyalty

-Hardened Alistair and Leliana

-Romanced Leliana

DAA

-Keep saved, Amaranthine burned

-All companions made into Wardens

-Fully upgraded the Keep (put soldiers to protect the trade flow)

-Got trade flowing through the keep

-Killed the Architect

-Did all companions little side quest aside from Velanna's (it glitched out)

DA2

-Female Mage Hawke

-Carver becomes a warden

-Romanced Isabela

-Dalish clan not slaughtered

-Varric does not get idol shard

-Max Friendship with everyone but Anders (maxed rivalry with him)

-Sided with both Mages and Templars throughout the game.

-Killed Arishock in a duel

-Isabela came back with relic

-Told Sebastian to shove off let Anders live

-Did not help Anders plant the bomb

-Tried to help Merrill fix the mirror

-Sided with Templars in the end.

There is no possibility that I would remember every detail of my playthrough 2-3 years ago so I think I need to put main things in the keep and then just play around with rest. I also want to switch with the backstories, in some putting Alistair in throne and in some Alistair with Anora on throne, I also want to have some backgrounds of siding with templars and others with mages in DA2.

I remember them saying in some recent interviews that the devs are working to see if we can import saves without creating a new one at the keep. or at least put our saves into the keep and use them from there, I would much prefer that.

And as for my choices....

Arl of Redcliffe
Saved Redcliffe
Kept the Green Blade, paid for it

High dragon slain

A Paragon of her kind

Changing the engine is quite a drastic change, really. Especially changing to an engine that is not normally used for RPGs, and instead, is used for FPS' and action games (i.e. Battlefield). The engine of a game is like...the spine, brain, heck...the entire skeleton of it. You change that and you practically have to start from scratch.

But his point is valid.  Most database applications have capabilities to import/export data fields.  Business applications do this all of the time.  The choices in DAO and DA2 could technically be an exported CSV file with numeral switches as options.  If you look at the save editors for DAO and DA2, it was a very similar logic.  Example:  "Who did the warden romance?"

  • 0 = No one
  • 1 = Morrigan
  • 2 = Leliana
  • etc, etc.

Now, there could be hooks to other options that then have to turn on and off, but, the graphical engine on top shouldn't care much.

It's not just because of the engine itself. It's also to avoid bugs in importing a certain save. I mean, DA2 already dealt with some bugs regarding choices made in Origins. Honestly, it is the best approach.  Other than importing your warden/Hawke's custom appearance, the Keep should really be able to handle all other decision points seamlessly without the need to import from game to game.

I hope they make a "keep" for Mass Effect.  It would really eliminate the dumb need for Gibbed save editors.

I actually only transferred one of my DAO playthroughs to DA2, because at first, I only played DA2 multiple times. Then, I went back and did my following playthroughs of DAO, because a light bulb went on, and I suddenly understood the strategy to it, and I could play on Nightmare.

So, the Keep will allow me to mash my unlinked DAO/DA2 playthroughs into one world state. That's a big win for me. Hooray for being able to create multiple world states that incorporate all my actual playthroughs and the playthroughs that I imagined I would do, but will never get around to.

Hey,

Yes, I will make saves (or save-states - however the keep does it...I'd like to tinker with the keep before the game is released, just to see what all the choices are (!)) as close as possible to what I consider my canon :)

As for the single choices:

Give me a spreadsheet (or a list) and I will tick what I will chose and so on :)

greetings LAX
