Hi guys!

I have a module in progress with several desert areas. I think that I am creating a good atmosphere, but sometimes I feel that something is not correct in the picture... I think that a desert area must had a certain flavour in it, a feel of desolation and emptiness of the wastes. Like a certain spaguetti westerns of Sergio Leone, maybe...

Anyway, I need to create small clouds of dust, battled with the desert winds. What do you think? A placeable? A Visual Effect with a script? Is something like that already created by someone?

Thanks in advance!

A FX placeable that is affected by wind. Someone did some cool mists (not the DLA one) back then with different colors and i would try one of them out with a beige/brown color. Size of the FX maybe 5000*5000 and I would create 2 different versions. One with 80 % and 25 % transparency. Depending on the scene.

I like FX as placeables because you can activate/ deactivate them whenever you want via scripting.

Thanks Baba, what you said seems to be a good idea. I am messing around now with some fog FX placeables...

ShadowM: wow!! That sand storm effect is really neat! :o

That's a great idea for a dust storm or a sand storm.

Beautiful effect, ShadowM! Might it be, that it'll be a bit laggy on elder machines?

I was going to have a look for one of my own effects but wow, that looks much cooler. Coolness.

This is darn well done! is it done with current content or is this simply one of your own?

Concerning this, I have a hard time imagining anyone with a computer so ancient that it would be affected by FX crowding, or placeable crowding, etc... nowadays.
If so, then I am flabbergasted.

Sorry for the late reply I posted the video right before going on a little vacation. :) now that I back with a few days left I might be able to work on some nwn projects. Yes it one of my own I made back awhile ago and posted video and sample module in the old forums and few downloaded it and tested it out. They moved us here and all our projects got wiped. It does not cause to much lag on systems from the feedback I got when I posted it earlier. I still call it a work in progress, that why I did not put it on the vault. I post a link to the module and files later today. It seem the original topic is more about god rays effected by the wind, little sand flowing off the top of sand piles and the like. If he get it done I love to look at that too or I just do it myself.
