Really. You have the same amount of options that gays have and yet you're getting the short end of the stick? Please.

so the gist i got the original OP was in my head "wah, wah, i dont get to romance people the way i want, wah, wah" ¬_¬ honestly, be happy that bioware has worked as hard as they have to give you as many options as this, i mean, this is the most romance options ive ever seen in a bioware game and you seem more discontent to moan about there being 2 openly gay characters in your party that you cant romance becuase 'your not gay', fine, thats perfectly fine, its not like anyone is forcing you to become gay to romance these characters, its called roleplaying, i intend to romance everyone at least once and im not gay/bi, i just want to get the most out of the game and if that means me roleplaying someone im not, then im ok with that, because its just a game and it has no real effect on my life unless i let it

Speaking of statistics, didnt Gaider say there are more people enjoying the LGBT content than there are LGBT players?
Patrick said that.

The statistics issue is shaky at best, but it doesn't matter. Bioware has commented many times that their statistics show the amount of people accessing the same sex content exceeds the numbers they expected from actual gay/bi players. Many heterosexuals also enjoy the content. It's not only actual gay/bi people that use the options.
People just love to bring the 'accurate statistics' argument. So much.

I mean, yeah, you have 2 (it was 2, yes?) romance options left to announce, but from the ones you gave us already, the more interesting ones (at least for me) are gay (Sera is lesbian (which is ok in a way, as I will at some point play a female Inquisitor) and Dorian is homosexual) - Why is that?
The only logical explanation is that gay characters are more interesting. Now that you've pointed this out, I'm sure BioWare will be quick to make all future companions, npcs and protagonists gay, and greatly improve their character design as a result.
No doubt you'll get a special mention in the credits as well.

Which is why minorities are frequently left out. But Bioware are being inclusive, which I think is fab. It's nice to play a game or watch a TV show and feel included.
Agreed. And I am saying this as a straight female player. Generally speaking, there are not that many homosexual or bisexual characters in video games, especially not in AAA games. Rather than being dissapointed by their inclusion, it should be embraced, IMHO. I think it's great even though I might not play a homosexual romance myself (although I might give it a try). I also agree with this interesting article on IGN. It mentions BioWare, too.
Gaming is one of the youngest entertainment mediums but it threatens to stunt its growth without acknowledging that there are many people who play games. Our world and other entertainment forms are more inclusive than ever, and it’s time games caught up.
So, personally, I think it's major step to include gay and bisexual characters and I'm really happy about it. The bisexual characters in DA 2 didn't bother me but now I think that it's better to have set sexualities. It is more realistic and makes a more immersive gameplay possible.
@ LAX
I don't think that straight players are getting the short end of the stick. It all seems very fair to me. However, I realize that there will always be a group of players who are not happy with the options they get. Again, doesn't mean you are underprivileged. You could still...
- Wait for the game to come out so you can see how all of the characters turn out. Maybe you change you mind.
- Try to roll a female Inquisitor if you are interested in Sera.
- Try the Josphine romance. You didn't count her because she isn't a companion but the devs have stated that the word budget for the advisors is the same as the one for the companions. So, I don't think you are missing anything here.

Most likely. I know I've romanced Zevran and Cortez playing as a male character and Liara as a female.

Before we got much li information, I remember many LGBT players (and others) saying they hoped the gay options weren't regulated to NCP's as they have been in the past. It seems like now that it's know that it will be the straight female option instead, everyone is saying they wouldn't worry about it until the game comes out. Hummmm?
Doubley bummed because IB looks scary to me (sorry fans) and I don't care for that personality type. I desperately want the last two options so I can start planning my first inquisitor and getting pumped up again.

On paper - yes, I agree, but not when it comes down to the actual characters...the gay characters are (at least to me) much more appealing
greetings LAX
It's not BioWare's fault that they didn't make the game around your specific sexuality and preferences. Everyone gets the same amount of choices, no one is actually getting "the short end of the stick." My personal favorites are Solas and Vivienne, but if they turned out gay or non romanceable I wouldn't accuse BioWare of giving straight players the shaft. It's MY preferences. If you really love the gay characters so much, just do a playthrough as a gay character. It's actually really fun when you break out of your comfort zone and add variety and a new perspective to your playthroughs.

This again?!?! Its the same thing time and time again! ![]()
I don't see the issue with the options presented to us straight guys and its the same numbers as it was in the previous games and I think we straight dudes have had it pretty good in the past. Its pretty fair for everyone this time around and I'm happy those of different orientations have options that they didn't have in past Bioware games.
If you are still unhappy with your choices by the game is released then I'm sorry dude that your problem but hell there are other games with over busty women to gander at if that is what you are looking for.

Is it okay to - in a way - punish us today for how things were in the past (it's like with feminism - women had the short end for a long time as well, but now the pendulum is going the other way, is that right or good (note: most men today would not want to give women the short end of the stick, so why should they be given it?)? - No, it isn't it just brews further resentment (MGTOW for example and men not wanting to marry or have kids anymore) and rightly so, women's quotas, women support programms and extra help in education aren't either...it just makes men push back...like extreme pro-gay ruling does (it makes people who accept gays resent them for getting their way more and more often because they were once a shunned minority *shakes his head*)
Punish you? You think not getting to romance certain video game characters in a video game is punishing you?
Please, you're just realizing anyone who isn't hetero-normative, or in regards to your feminism example, a dude, are people too who deserve equal opportunities, and those opportunities mean people like you geting less "things" than usual.
This is like an overweight person complaining about eating 2000 calories instead of 3000 calories or a rich spoiled brat getting 1 Christmas present instead of 20.
Things like feminism and LGBT are about equality, not superiority, and anyone who has resentment for it just has issues.

I'm still bummed out that the straight women are the only group that does not get their own companion romance, and I've seen several others around here who prefer playing as a straight female that feel the same. I have no problem with sharing with the gay/bi men, but it just feels unfair that we are singled out in this way.

How is a bisexual romance like Iron Bull or (potentially) Solas/Blackwall lesser than if they were straight?
I can almost understand the disappointment about Cullen, although advisors are getting literally the same amount of content as companions in DA:I - and it's possible they'll have content that companions won't get, such as being part of running the Inquisition.

this I completely understand. And I agree that having yours be an NPC sucks. A bit of a difference is visibility and the ability to have someone queer in your group, but i agree. Personally I thought Cullen and Scribbles should have been Bi for being NPCs. And then have 1 gay/straight/Bi character of each gender in the party. i feel the straight option should have been Solas/varric/Blackwall instead of Cullen because NPC. But hey at least one of those other guys are sure to be an option?

because the idea of exclusive content matters. I would be quite upset if, once again, the lesbian option was an NPC. And there is definitely a difference to talking to someone and taking them out into a fight. I get the dissapointment. there is a huge difference to what Lax is saying, and being dissapointed your exclusive content is not fulloy what you hoped.

I agree that it is more important to give LGBT li's a prominent position in this game than the straight female li because of how they have been underrepresented or not-represented in Bioware games in the past, but female gamers have never exactly had it easy in the industry either.
I will be happy with Solas/Varric/Blackwell (and probably in that order), and I'm sure I'll be romancing one of them with many different inquisitors which is also the reason why I hope that if they are one of the race gated li's, they will not be too restrictive >.<

What's the issue with a character being bi-sexual? Bi-sexuality is pretty much being straight, but just with that added fun and wonky factor.

Unless you rant too about ME 2 not having non-straight romances, I am going to assume you just not use to live in a world where everyone got a change.

Thanks Karush, this is what I meant as well. It's not that I think that Solas/Varric/Blackwell romance would be any less, it only sucks to be the only group singled out as getting (what I view to be) lesser than everyone else.
