It's completely fair. No one is getting the short end of the stick here. Look, I don't very much like that Cass is my "only" option (I don't find Josie attractive and Sera is a lesbian, so I'm left with Cass if I'm playing a straight male), but that's what BioWare decided and I accept that. They gave me two options for a straight male. I only like one? Too bad. Fair is fair.
I disagree. I have never asked for 'exclusive content.' Bisexual female love interests are as good as lesbian ones.
*Representation* matters but you can have that without love interests. Celene, for example, is a lesbian. I'd actually prefer it if gay characters weren't limited to people the PC can romance.
This is very, very true.
Depending on how difficult modding Frostbite is, I expect one of the first mods for Inquisition will be to add advisors to your party, either in a companion slot or as an extra.Cullen seems too OP to be a playable character... too bad Bioware doesn't have secret, unlockable characters or something along those lines (not troll characters like Loghain that make you sacrifice somebody else). It would be cool if he could potentially join the front lines maybe 3/4 into the game when people are at least getting with a few levels of him... he should still be almost maxed out by that point though.

I like that both Dorian and Sera are exclusive LIs though, this is a first in DA, should be interesting seeing how those paths go.
Also I don't want to share my toys with anyone! ![]()
And the characters are characters in their own right; they don't exist just to be romanced by the PC.

oh people are complaining about straight people getting the short end of the stick?
Yeah no. Everyone has one confirmed companion romance and one advisor romance. (well except gay men. They have 2 comps). That's pretty equal to me.
I don't have all the options, therefore BioWare hates me.
Personally I don't like this SJW crusade going either way, I prefer to let the creators put out the content they feel will tell the best story, divorced from intentional agenda fulfillment, though that doesn't preclude that kind of content necessarily. If that means we have a whole cast that's asexual space nematodes, thumbs up.
I dunno man, I'm a guy and I'm pretty damn stoked about the variety that has been shown in the romances so far. The Dorian reveal even made me think about turning my traditional first "straight male human warrior-playthrough" into a "gay male human warrior-playthrough", but I haven't given up hope for Vivienne yet. If she's a romance, she'll be the first one in Inquisition for me. ![]()
All in all, most people on the forums seem pretty excited about the romances so far, and since probability would suggest that most people here are also straight, I would say that most straight people don't seem to feel that they are getting the short end of the stick. ![]()

I do as well, but there is exclusive content for each person. It was more a response to Venusara as that comparing what she has as an option and knowing the (so far) only straight male is a NPC. Admittedly, maria both you and I would have been beyond annoyed if the lesbian option was Scribbles. Irregardless if there were 2 bisexual women to romance and if there were several nonromanceable NPC lesbians.
Straight men have Cassandra. I don't call that the short end of the stick.
Anyway in response to the topic: Heterosexuals have 2 potential romances so far, homosexuals have 2 potential romances so far.
Now call me crazy but that seems fair to me.
you are crazy
that cannot be fair

How so?

And there comes the personal preference. I find cassandra too butch and mannish for my liking. And I don't like short hair on women.
She's the straight romance option. If you don't like her, romance somebody else or don't romance anybody at all.
Complaining about her appearance at this point is doing nobody any good.
So this thread is basically asking, "Hey Bioware, why do I like I other characters better than the ones that are available to me for romances?"
How are they supposed to answer this? If you recognize that it's subjective, then what's the point? Just making it known that you prefer other characters? Okay, well, mission accomplished. Now what?
And maybe there are some gay men who don't like mustaches, or lesbians who don't like northern accents, or libertines who don't like men with horns. And there comes the personal preference. I find cassandra too butch and mannish for my liking. And I don't like short hair on women.

And i dont like long hair, see how that works? ![]()

Beauty is subjective, if Cass was available to my fem inquisitor I'd be thrilled but sadly she is not, so I'll just do a male playthrough for that. I love short hair on gals, it suits alot of women, I rock a short style myself. Again that's your opinion, this is mine.
I love(loath) threads like these ![]()
You are bummed because you can't kiss Sera because you're a dude. Okay, that's cool. I get that. I'm bummed that I can't kiss Dorian because I'm a chick.
I was also bummed that I can't kiss my gay friend cause he's not into me that way. I would absolutely with out a doubt, if he was. He knows that too. Know what else he knows? That even though I was bummed, I pouted for like .5 seconds and then went on to continue being his friend. Why? Because damn, can't kiss... oh well!
It really isn't the end of creation because you like someone and they're not available to like you back in the same manner. Hell, I have a straight dude friend who'd I'd ALSO jump at the chance to kiss, but he's just not into me that way... and guess what? Oh well! I also have a straight lady friend (and a bi lady friend) who I have ALSO felt that strongly about, but again - no dice. That's life. You like people, they don't like you back the same way for a variety of reasons.
Why is that such a non-issue for folks in life - but such a HUGE issue for them in video games? So I can't kiss Dorian as a lady (of which I am and of which I prefer to play as)? That sucks, but w/e! We'll be best buds and check out hot guys together! OR maybe I'll start playing and find I just really DON'T like who Dorian is as a character and NOT be best buds with him!
OR yanno, since it's a video game and I can totally pretend to be who I want -- I'll roll up a dudequiz and THEN kiss Dorian! WOOHOO for Roleplaying!
There's no "short sticking" here. No one is getting shafted because they've fixated on a character to like, but it turns out their preferred way to play makes romancing them a no dice situation. Everyone has the same amount of options. Not everyone will like their options -- but since it's a video game, they then have the OPTION to try it a different way! It's quite actually the same as if you (everyone) got THE EXACT SAME OPTION (aka one single person to romance) and you saying "Ey I don't personally like that one character that you've given us! YER SHAFTING X GROUP!!"
It's silly.
And maybe there are some gay men who don't like mustaches, or lesbians who don't like northern accents, or libertines who don't like men with horns.
Unless you want the player to have full control over the LI's appearance, what are you getting at?
Actually that would be pretty cool if we could customise our companion's appearance too (not just the items they're wearing). Like we can shave off Dorian's mustache or ask Cassandra to grow her hair or Iron Bull to cut off his horns. But I guess there won't be anything like that...
My opinion?

thinking....really nothing to do with this weird topic or this quote.
The word "Representation" really just means how to make these characters noticeable and maybe likable to other people, it matters and is great and nice to see but it always kinda feels more like making a certain to show them off to people who aren't like that character.. the complaint over it falls flat because its noticeably there and if someone who Isn't in the specific group the character is supposed to be representing like them...then the character does what they were supposed to, for some reason something being there matters more than if anyone agrees with it...(im allowed to ignore 49% of "happenstances" to say pointlessly pointfull broad things)
Should the romances for straight males need to represent straight females? or do the romances for straight females need to represent straight males?
