You aren't worth it.
Ha! I saw that too, but decided not to touch it with a ten foot pole.
Twerk away, my good my man, twerk away!

I think this is worth the repost. I've seen Lax's posts before, so I'm not going to come down on him too harshly.
I'm a pansexual woman, but I've never been interested in a m/m relationship. Not that I had anything against it, it wasn't just a roleplaying avenue that I was interested in. Then Dorian came along and changed my mind in a hurry. He's fantastic. I'm not rolling up a guy just to romance him though. I mean, that's a big part of it, but Dorian made me interested in roleplaying a gay man. That's very cool. ![]()
I'm decided I'm not going to sweat the remaining LIs very much anymore. The stress isn't worth it. As a lady that prefers men overall, I do have Iron Bull and Cullen. The former I'd need to go know, and the other isn't my physical type, but I'm not going to crap on the options I have just because they aren't perfect for me. I have two options, which is great! Even if my chosen character (Varric) isn't a LI, I get his friendship back, and I still have two options to choose from.
Same goes with the ladies. I'll admit, Sera so far isn't my type (reminds too much of a kid sister,) and Josie, while beautiful, I'd have to get a sense of how much adviser dialogue there is. So, again, I have two choices that aren't completely to my taste.
Holy crap, I have two to four choices at least! Again, just because any of them aren't 100% to my taste doesn't make them bad or lesser. It just means that I might have to play the game before I could decide, since I believe in getting to know my companions before I start going, "it's a 'nomance'" three months before the game launches.
Instead of worrying about who might get one more LI, or who's going to be race-gated, I'm going to hang out and enjoy the company of my fellow forumites in various fan threads. It sure as hell beats bickering, debating and getting pissed off about something we have no control over. That's just my advice anyhow. Just try not to be jerks to each other. ![]()
To add: Getting possibly one less option isn't "getting the shaft," nor is having a companion not fit your perfect ideal. While I can understand that the physical appearances aren't to your taste, rather than get worked up about it, wait until the game comes out.
The romances are nice, but I play BioWare games for the personality of the companions. The writing and the story. I do believe the romances are important, and part of what makes this company so unique. Still, I've found that it's what those companions act like is what matters, not how they look.
To each their own, but it seems like a waste of energy to spend the summer upset. ![]()
I'm sorry, I thought that I accurately represented your statement. My understanding of your stance is that if a romanceable character doesn't explicitly state their sexuality to you, then their character is cheapened. If that's not accurate, can you clarify where I am misunderstanding?
I said "lack of definition" cheapens a character. Something(like sexual orientation) can be defined in a character without the character explicitly stating said thing. Leliana is a great example. She never says "yes im interested in both", her interest in women is presented in a much more coyish manner.
while I can accept homosexuals in RL (I am indifferent to them, as long as they don't try to chat me up)
Screw it, I'd like to know.
What *do* you do, exactly, if a homosexual tries to "chat you up" IRL?

If you play as a female Warden, does she express interest in men? I don't remember.
Did Alistair ever express that he wasn't interested in men? Was he cheapened because he didn't demonstrate that he was straight and not ambiguously bisexual? Or do people just "meta-game" to understand that he's straight so he doesn't need to "say it". If it's the latter, why is it not okay to "metagame" that Merrill is bisexual?

I didn't like it when they changed everyone to player-sexual in DA ][, so I'm not about to argue FOR that for DA I.
Those of us who wish to play straight characters will just have to #DealWithIt
Did I just use a hashtag? I think I just did.

If you romance Alistair she does I think... Its like a "girl talk" thing. Though I don't she outright says it.
Straight people never express that they are not interested in the same sex(unless they get hit on I guess), its more that they show indifference towards the same sex. Alistair does show that indifference. Though it is a fault that a male cant hit on him. Morrigan does say leliana's breast staring is creepy though....

I took it as Morrigan not liking being stared at, for any reason. She's not used to anyone complimenting her, especially on her breasts. She'll snap at various other companions as well for doing for checking her out too.

So if a female warden romances her, she doesn't mention her attraction to men. Why is she "less cheap" than Merrill?
They were never romances!!!! A character who lacks definition Is "cheap." Isabela has that. She's Bi and it shows in dao and da2(see banter with Bethany). Merril does not. She shows absolutely no interest in either gender, except for when she shows up at Hawke's ready to show her wield ass neck.
So people like her in the real world are cheap, are they? ![]()
Bioware has truly done something wonderful here. They've created a site in which a topic like this doesn't devolve into an outright flame war within the first 30 posts. How is this possible? What sorcery is this? If this was any other site, I'd start seeing casualties on both sides!
I'm getting really sick of all the bisexual erasure that goes on in the fandom re: Dragon Age II. They've been confirmed not to be playersexual, so please stop perpetuating that myth. Celebrating diversity in DAI doesn't have to come at the expense of bisexual people.
Other than that, I'd say to reserve your judgment until you actually play the game, I hated Fenris for a long time because of his anti-mage views, but after I really got to know him during his romance, he became one of my favorites (alongside Isabela and Zevran). I didn't even find him particularly attractive. The same may happen with you.

I hear ya, and I've made some posts today touching on that subject. For me, it was Alistair and Isabela that was a pleasant surprise. ![]()
Heck... I'd take it as a compliment if a gay man chatted me up, even though I'm not gay and like the tats.

Bisexual erasure is not why I like DA2's system more. In fact, the set sexuality system does to me what you think the DA2 system did to bisexuals.

You and me both. Hell, I could use the attention, considering women seem so averse to giving me any.
....And now I just made myself sad.
People who don't like discussing or revealing their sexuality are 'cheap'. Gotcha, you learn something new every day.

It's got to make for a good pick up line though.
Hey baby, I'm straight. And you?

eh, I suppose...
So if a female warden romances her, she doesn't mention her attraction to men. Why is she "less cheap" than Merrill?
Because the definition is still there, even if its not presented to a particular PC. Merrill doesn't have content that actually suggests she interested in either or both sexes.
So people like her in the real world are cheap, are they?
Im talking about the writing of a character.

I was referring to this person:

My point was that all the DA2 LIs are bisexual, and fans who deny it and applaud BioWare for giving the DAI LIs "actual sexualities" are being biphobic (and grating). I don't even know what you're talking about here.
Not stating your sexuality or wanting to discuss it or never bringing it up makes you cheap? Guess I'm cheap then ![]()
Though do people know a lot of people who state their sexuality in real life by the way? I know like two people who have told me their sexual orientation and that's it. Is telling people if your gay, straight, bi, etc normal? Not being sarcastic I don't go out much so this could be thing for all I know.
Also about characters needing to have stated sexualities or else they are cheap I disagree with this as well, you could watch a movie or read a book or play a game where you never learn that about the character or several characters and I don't think that makes them cheap.
Because the definition is still there, even if its not presented to a particular PC. Merrill doesn't have content that actually suggests she interested in either or both sexes.

Not expressing preferences is not cheapening a character. Characters aren't suddenly deeper because they start discussing who they are attracted too. Maybe Merrill doesn't know because she's never felt that way about anyone before? Or she just doesn't want to talk about it because it is personal? Or one of a thousand other possible things.
Player-sexuality was a very nice bonus. However, it turned my sexuality into a game mechanic for the players, and I'm rather grateful that they are moving away from it. Plus, it'll be nice to see bisexual/pan, gay and lesbian heroes apart from the PC. I believe that ace, trans and demisexual characters would add a lot down the road too.
...getting the short end of the stick.
Hey Bioware/Bioware-Forum,
I got another question (it's not objective, because it's based on personal taste), but why is it, that the gay characters (lesbians and homosexuals) get the better end of the deal this time?
I mean, yeah, you have 2 (it was 2, yes?) romance options left to announce, but from the ones you gave us already, the more interesting ones (at least for me) are gay (Sera is lesbian (which is ok in a way, as I will at some point play a female Inquisitor) and Dorian is homosexual) - Why is that?
I mean, those two were the most interesting characters (not counting the ones we knew already: Varric and Cassandra) in the new cast and - while I can accept homosexuals in RL (I am indifferent to them, as long as they don't try to chat me up), I just can't play such a character (meaning: I can't go after Dorian)...
Was having them bisexual (as unrealistic as it may be - on the other hand, magic is not realistic either...It is a fantasy RPG for heanven's sake, so why would the people there fit into our - narrow minded (!) - expectations? - Maybe being Bisexual is the norm there?) really so bad?
As for the two you still have to reveal:
Well, even if you say Vivienne is romancable, I don't like her much already, so no joy (even more so as she might be race-locked...don't like that either), same for Blackwall, Solas and Varric (all three are interesting, but they are all male...and while my female Inquisitor might like having more options, my male would still be stuck with a very short stick indeed...and no, I am not really counting Scribbles (Josephine), as she is no companion and while I will romance her at some point (just to see how the non-companion romances work out))
So what do straigh - male - characters get:
- Cassy? - That's ok, I do like her and that's it among the companions, isn't it?
It's not much better for straigh females, is it?
- Iron Bull (and he isn't even straight himself!)
(again: Not counting Cullen for now)
A bit sad, I think!
greetings LAX
Look dude, I get what your saying, I really like those characters too and I would love to romance them in a strait relationship. That being said, strait people do get the best option most of the time. So I think, that we will be ok, if gay ppl will get the "best character" this time around. We just need to hope that there will be another romance that we will like just as much : )
