This entire thread is bogus because straight characters received the perfect gift, complete with bow on top: Cullen. :P No I am not bitter. (Really, you can put the bow anywhere you want; I've scene it in some very strategically placed locations in various fanart. :P)

Dorian, whom the OP thinks is so devilishly attractive and intensely fascinating, is the character I'm least interested in and least likely to romance.

Opinions :P We has them!

I'll trade you Cullen for Dorian then if  you want

Because they can be romanced by both males and females in a game with no other "playersexual" characters.  It doesn't take a lot to figure out that in a game where everyone has a defined sexuality that a character who is romanceable by both males and females is bisexual.  In a single playthrough, you might not know it, but that applies to a lot of other content that people consider "canon", even if it's optional to experience (i.e. Wynne's apprentice - no argues that he doesn't exist if you aren't her friend; people just recognize that it's part of the game that they didn't see because of their choices).

You're preaching to the choir there, as I've always held the view that being available to both Hawkes was objective "evidence" of both Fenris and Merrill being bisexual characters.

It's a bit sad, really. When Dragon Age 2 was released I loved the way both Fenris and Merrill were handled (finally, bisexual characters who weren't promiscuous!) But after reading people insisting that they weren't bisexual on the forums over and over and over again I became so angry, until eventually I just snapped and came to loathe how their sexuality was done entirely.

I can't see an approach that led to so many arguments that they were not bisexual at all to be a positive one. If a character is vague enough that such a large number of people can't bring themselves to "see" it then what's the point at all?

The people who argued that they weren't bisexual were probably not all that bright.

I always thought of Fenris as straight for some reason.  That's just me though.   What's Gaider's official stance on Fenris?  I am still so confused about DA 2's romance system in general.  Are they are all bisexual?  Or is it Hawke-sexual?

All bisexual, except for Seb.

And, ironically enough given the first comment, Fenris was written by Gaider with the m/m romance in mind first.

Well, that sucks.   Him and FemHawke went so well together.

It shouldn't take away from the FemHawke romance, though.  It just meant that he was mostly thinking about Fenris with a guy when writing the romance.  It doesn't change that he's bisexual and, in your playthroughs, totally into FemHawke.

Possible representation for people who are demisexual, grey-A, sexually ambiguous, etc.

geez one of these threads again..

I mean c'mon it was always just two options for straight male gamers

DA origins Morrigan and Leliana (who was bisexual to me it doesn't matter but you had to point that out in your post so)

DA II Isabella and Merril (both bisexual)

So again I have no idea where you are coming from.. Cassandra, Vivienne and Josephine are more than enough for straight gamers

Romance isn't everything you know this is not a Dating Game

btw I don't really care because I have the most options (by being bisexual) :D

I always find it interesting that so many people seem to imply that my sexuality doesn't exist until I've "proven" I don't pick partners by gender. I'm not multisexual until you hear me comment on the butts of people of multiple genders? Multisexualities aren't Schröder's sexuality.

This is a good point (to a degree, since it's very, very easy for people to ignore/deny sexualities as they see fit if they aren't stated explicitly).

Sexuality is invisible, meaning unless your universe has words for gay, bi, ace, etc., the only way to portray them beyond Word of God is to have them, well... do what they do.

I said characters are cheapened by lack of definition. if the character is ambiguous about something then they should show ambiguity!(like morrigan does)

Wat.

Morrigan isn't anywhere NEAR ambiguous about her sexuality. Not even close.

As I've said before, if a character explicitly has said sexuality it's not vague.

Yeah, that's why I liked Bioware just keeping Fenris and Merrill ambiguous the past few years since I saw it as them representing those groups. So when Gaider confirmed they were just bisexual last week it really hurt.

Woo! Well we got the original OP to take a breath and agree that they should give the characters a chance before judging them!

... and then we moved right on to bi-erasure! WOO HOO. And hey even a little stab at feminism too! MAN this thread is going places tonight. <_<

Being "not all that talkative" about who you'd think would be fun to climb into bed with does in no way cheapen a character. OR A PERSON. Sometimes people and characters alike aren't all that comfortable shouting who makes their naughty bits quiver from the rooftops. That doesn't make them less. It just makes them a bit shy.

Merrill is Bi. Fenris is Bi. Anders is Pan. Isabela is Bi.Each of them are different in how they express their multisexualism. That's not only a REAL THING, but it's also a REAL THING that fictional characters can do! It's also not at all strange to have a group of not-straight-people hanging out together! In fact it's about as not-strange as having a bunch of straight people hang out together!

and now I'm cranky. I'm taking my random sword sticking out of the Hanged Man's floor and going home

Where did they say Anders was pansexual? I remember Gaider saying he was bisexual.
