Hey Bioware/Bioware-Forum,

Got another question (just read up on Solas once again, and as we know, he is a dreamer/somniari):

Why can't the player character be a dreamer? (for a mage that might explain why the fade didn't kill him/her - as a dreamer can influence/shape the fade and enter it whenever he/she wants)

It would give us additional powers, too (killing enemies in their sleep during the night for example or spy on their dreams etc.)

Might make for a nice story element :)

Solas is not a dreamer.

Other than that, I would love playing a dreamer.

Isn't he?

How would he be "an expert on the fade" who spends his time "dreaming in ancient ruins"?

Normal mages can only enter the fade with a massive power boost (blood-magic, lyrium) - they go their in their dreams, yes, but they are unaware of it (you can't do research, if you don't remember doing it, can you? - and he can control his dreaming (lucid-dreaming and on command, too))

So I would say he is a dreamer :)

Dreamers are very rare. Solas might be one, or it could just be some sort of hedge mage manifestation of his powers. Either way, we already have a glowing hand and abilities because of it. I think that sets the PC far enough apart as a special snowflake.

Besides, can you imagine having to do a Fade sequence every time your character rests? There would be another Skip the Fade mod within days of release.

Dreamers enter the fade on a tick. Solas has to lay down and go to sleep as a regular person. Everybody goes to the fade when they dream, but Solas learned to be conscious about it. He is still not a dreamer.

Hm...

That's strange - because as far as I know, he casts normal spells (Gaider said in a recent interview on YT, that once a hedge mage has used his powers to manifest talents, they can't go back to using circle-like spells (he didn't explain it and I don't know if canon does support that...) and in light of that, he has to be a dreamer (as only that would allow him to interact with the fade like he does, while still being able to cast spells and use his magic like any other mage can do...)

ps: I would love a dev. clarification (is it considered canon that hedge mages can't cast spells - even if they were properly (at least what the circles consider to be properly) instructed, even if he or she had used magic before (without really knowing what they were doing)?

Not if you did something usefull while in it :) (no, not like the ME3 dreams...hate those with passion...so pointless - I now want to shoot the child from the dreams everytime I meet it during my escape from earth (yes, I occasionally play ME3 - for mindless shooting and blasting stuff with biotics...still don't like the game, much), like:

Visiting the dreams of enemies (and allies/friends - might give them a boost etc.) and listening to plans or even killing them :) (or, even better: manipulating them, "Inception"-Style :) )

Solas isn't a Dreamer, Dreamers enter and manipulate the Fade through the use of their unique magic... this, Solas does not do.

Solas has trained himself to do something a lot like lucid-dreaming.
