I'm currently doing an insanity run as an engineer and find it very easy. I've just finished the dreadnought mission and up to that point I've rarely gone into cover and as of yet have not lost one bar of heath. My shields have gone down, but not my health.

What I want to do is the hardest possible playthrough there is that can be thought of. Something that no one would do or at least not have the patience to do. Any suggestion is welcomed no matter how crazy or far-fetched it may seem.

To date, my hardest playthrough has been using a level one pistol using no powers(including ammo powers) along with my squadmates using a level one weapon with no powers on hardcore difficulty. I did this playthrough about 2 years ago.

For me, the Vanguard would be the most difficult, as I have little RL skill to move around well; prefer ranged weapons. And spamming the Hotkey for punches is not what I call fun.

Based on the criteria, possibly another self-imposed restriction campaign with an Inquisitor, as it already has some limits in place. Choose the weapons and powers that you deem are needed and would enjoy using; set the rest aside. Also, no gifting of any power or weapon before it appears in game (eg; no Scorpion before saving Eve; no use of Dominate before completing Leviathan, etc).

No tactical pausing? As in only using hot keyed powers or kinect? Or are you already doing that?

Ah. Well so much for that suggestion. There's not really enough hot key spaces on the controller, especially if you tell your team when to use powers too.

You could still try and do a speed run. Or you could take strange teams that won't compliment your Shep's powers

I've done a couple of speed runs. I believe the quickest was about 6 hours and still got the best ending. I have taken different squadmates before that don't work well with Shepard's powers.

If the computer I have now were to die/crash, than I would most likely spend a few thousand dollars for a gaming pc and get a separate pc for everyday use. I'm content with the ps3 and will be getting a ps4 just before DAI is released.

Had this problem in the Army with a 200 lb piece of tech called a computer, and it's 200 lb generator. We used to complain about it at every drill, as some of us were faster on the slide-rules than that monster. At the start of our 2 week Summer training, one of the new recruits in our section accidently spilled his Coke into it, so both remained locked away the entire period. It was glorious!

And we were never gonna ask if it was really an accident....

Hardest possible playthrough I can think of is a melee-only Shepard without leveling up or using any powers. Maybe permit leveling up the fitness tree for melee bonuses.

I've done a melee only playthrough before except it was on normal mode and I did level up. I played as a soldier. Of course a lot of the times the squadmates were killing most of the enemies on some missions

What difficulty would you suggest?

Hmmm. Insanity would obviously be the toughest. Squadmates would kill much less on that difficulty. The Geth Primes would become a bit problem I think, unless you allow yourself to use the heavy weapons/turrets in the area. Atlas mechs and Banshee would likely give you some trouble as well. Hardcore may be more appropriate though to ease some of the potential pain.

You could start on Insanity and drop down if you have a lot of issues, or start on Hardcore and then move up if you think it is too easy.

I've never done it (and have no plans to do it) so I have no idea how it would actually turn out. Up to you. Pick whatever you challenge suits you best at this point.

Infiltrator melee only.  I think that would be fun and challenging.  stealth takedowns FTW

Do a playthrough only using Stasis.

No cheating into Bastion in ME1.

Yeah really I am not entirely sure if melee only without investing in any powers would really be workable on Insanity on some missions, although that depends a whole lot on if you allow squad powers.  With Squad powers it would be doable.  None, it might be possible but would end up being very frustrated.

Primes as you mentioned, but with Citadel, the clone fight would be pretty rough.  Then I am not sure how well that would work out against the sync enemies (very tedious), as well as the Ramparts in Omega.

As far as self imposed limits, I probably wouldn't go too much further than limiting to "common" weapons (at 1) with no weapon mods, and maybe only allowing one power on a squaddie and no squad grenades.  WRT Shep's powers, maybe allow 2 active powers rank 3 or 4 only or something.  But I don't know if I would really do this, I am on PC and if I want to make the game much more difficult I can just edit some of the properties.

I suggest doing a perma-death playthrough on insanity.

IMHO this is usually the most fun self imposed challenge. It lets you still have all the normal options for variety in gameplay style, character builds, etc. While still making everything constantly tense and exciting, since slipping up for a couple seconds can always end Shep's life and that means game over. I've been trying to get through the game this way for a while and really enjoy it.

I do add three other stipulations to the challenge for myself. First, I can't use any of the DLC 'weapon pack' weapons. By this i mean the weapons that came as non-story dlc (venom, harrier, etc) and not the ones you get while playing the story DLCs like the lancer and raider. Second, I can't allow any incendiary ammo + power glitching (IA does stupid damage when combo'ed with warp, incinerate or incendiary grenades) so I have to either skip incendiary ammo or skip those powers (including on squadmates). Third, I have to do every mission/can't skip any combat related side quests.

The one thing I do to make it a little easier on myself is that I keep one save file that I make immediately after the intro stuff. Specifically I complete Mars, the Primarch rescue on Mennae and then the 10 or so non-combat side quests around the citadel + the search and rescue BS. After that I make one save that I keep and don't have to delete if I die. This saves you 4-5 hours of intro BS if you want to try another playthrough with the same class and honestly Mars and Mennae are so easy to survive that IDGAF about skipping them.

I'm far from an amazing player so the best I've managed is around 1/3 of the way through the total content (including the three story DLCs). Good luck and have fun if you try it!
