I like maps and also minimap's - but understanding what the icons mean and imply seemed a fun thing to do, as they have been shared in the E3 demos. Here's my take on the symbols - what do you think?

Image 1 - /\ - We have what looks like a cave the Inquisitor has just left so great, caves are on the minimap.
Image 1 - o - Non-aggressive creatures are marked in blue and general NPCs are not marked (see image 11 for party members)
Image 1 - ^ - There are chevron pointers are the minimap's edge pointing to:
Image 2 - ! - Quest markers (e.g. "Templar bastards killed my husband..." No marker floating over the person but on the map.
Image 3 - o - Aggressive creatures or foes are as usual marked in red

Image 4 -
- Some kind of skull or orb marks the position of a cliff top viewing orb (whatever they are for)
Image 5 - /\ - Here above Redcliffe docks is a Pyramid that seems to indicate an enterable house or structure.
Image 5 - ($) - and a currency marker indicates I assume a merchant, though that just a guess.
Image 6 - (!) - This ringed exclamation proved a red herring. Quest on top of merchant.

Image 7 - * - More eclectic, there is a star on the map. Instinct is that it is a Keep (guess).
Image 8 - [*] - This banner shape found at the dock alongside Lady Shayna's Valley. Seems to be the 'power' symbol.
Image 9 - Lastly, inside Redcliffe castle, nothing, no quest markers, nada. Just foes. That might mean something or it might not.

Image 10 - + - Green star could be an active quest. Seen in an alternative of the E3 demo.
Image 11 - o - White spot markers now included for party members (DAI Combat demo)
What we don't know:
Whether icons are only revealed if you discover them or come close?
Whether icons are unlocked as a PC ability or relating to plot completion?
Whether there are options to toggle minimap and world icon visibility?
Whether foe visibility is restricted by PC ability, or line of sight?
Also I'm pleased that the minimap has prevailed over the Skyrim-clone map bar shown last year in a leaked pre-alpha demo:

Cartographers, I would welcome your thoughts.
