Dragon Age Awakening was a great 20+ hour "sequel" to Origins. Unfortunately it was the last expansion that Bioware put out. Everything else as just 2-5 hour dlc packs.

Will Inquisition just be more of the same or could we finally get a full true expansion pack?

Well, the game continues after the main questline is completed, so possibly.

As I recall, DA2 was supposed to have one, but it was scrapped due to low dlc sales, and some of its plot points have been folded into Inquisition. Hopefully, if it does well, we will see an expansion for Inquisition at some point.

I think "by-the-adventure" DLC is the way of the future.  For BioWare and beyond.

I've always been upset that Exalted March was cancelled. Hawke's story was left frustratingly hanging in DA2

DA2 was going to have one. I'm hoping DAI has one too. Based on where their design is going with this game it looks prime for one. If you look at their DLC philosophy in the past 2 games it's a strong possibility. I don't know how DAI ends but they did say you can continue your journey. If an expansion was ever to happen what better game than one this vast visiting multiple regions? I'd love a Tevinter Imperium expansion focusing on a small portion in that region.

Bioware makes some quality DLC. Awakening, Witch Hunt, Legacy, Mark of the Assassin, Citadel, Leviathan, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Overlord, From Ashes just to name some. They rarely make one that's just bad.

I didn't realize awakening was that long. Sadly I never played it because I had to reformat my HDD after Direct2Drive (The platform I purchased DA:O on) went defunct. I'd have to buy DA again from another platform.

As for the type of content DA:I would lean towards, given how the world seems to be built to facilitate an expansion that maybe has a short narrative experience (2-4hrs) but a vast wealth of emergent possibilities. Making one region for a DLC-Expansion would likely create 20+ hours of gameplay depending on how someone plays with the content.

God, I hope they are able to add lots of optional story DLC after the game is out. I was crushed we didn't get the Exalted Marches for DA2, but maybe Sebastian and the Starkhaven thing will get explained in DAI, as well as what happened to Hawke.

We almost had one for DA2 -- I'd actually prefer an expansion myself since there's more room for adding in new neat gameplay mechanics, which I feel would add more replayability than a 2-hour side-story could on its own.

The best way to make sure Bioware creates lots of DLC/Expansions is making sure you and everyone you know makes the DLC they do put out have good sales.

Also I think it was Alan that said technically every DLC is an expansion because it expands the base game.

I actually do enjoy the "by-the-mission" DLC jaunts, I think Bioware's done a pretty good job of them for the most part.  Ideally they open up a new area (At least for the duration of the DLC) and provide new lore and points of choice for us to define our characters.

The DLC route is probably more cost effective. Probably takes less time to develop DLC as well.

What's more cost effective, development of a twenty hour expansion that sells for $30 or development of ten two hour DLCs that sell for $10 each.

No worries from me, as I have every DLC made for all the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.  I know some people are opposed to the whole idea of DLC, but as far as I am concerned, I'm more than willing and happy to pay for additional content they make after game release. It adds so much more to my 5 billion replays.  :P  The only DLC I can think of that wasn't really super interesting for me was Darkspawn Chronicles for DAO. All the others I loved and played the heck out of.

Whatever way of expanding the game they choose, I want them to create a bundle eventually, like DA:O Ultimate Edition. I refuse to use their point buy system. It's unwieldy and seems specifically made so that any purchase leaves some points over.

I'd like a post-game expansion pack similar to Awakening. Especially if we can spend some time with DAI and the Inquisitor. DA2 (and DAO, to a degree) came to an end sooner than they should have.

Awakening was a fun time, but definitely on the weaker end of the Expansions I've played.

Make that four story based DLC and I'll agree

I definitely prefer Awakening sized expansions over bite sized DLC missions that only last a few hours at most. I don't see why DAI can't have something like that since DAO did with the aforementioned Awakening and then DA2 was supposed to with the Exalted March, but that was cancelled in favor of putting all resources towards DAI. So I think if DAI sells well and is well received the chances of a large expansion is quite good. It just fits the series well, especially Inquisition. There's a lot of places they could go as natural extensions of your Inquisition gaining and exerting power that would benefit far more from a lengthy campaign over just small addon mission.

To be perfectly honest I really hope we get a fully-fledged expansion pack rather than 2-4 mediocre DLCs. I may be in the minority here, but I've never really liked the mission-based DLCs BioWare has put out for their games, especially the Dragon Age series.

To be fair, I almost never like DLCs across all games. To me, they're just not worth the extra 5-20 dollars. They always feel half baked, or lacking creativity/validity that the base game entails.

Now with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, I felt differently. Bring Down The Sky, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memories, and Arrival were all pretty good. Not too expensive, and delivered good content. Lair of The Shadow Broker was fantastic, it did everything a DLC should in my opinion.

Mass Effect 3 had the absolute most atrocious DLCs; from its lame content to its ludacris asking price. I'd go more in depth but that's another topic for another discussion.

With Dragon Age, I felt very indifferent. Wardens Keep, Stone Prisoner, GOA were alright; but didn't feel all that vital, or worth the money. Dragon Age 2 kept up the mediocrity with Legacy, which was entertaining but not vital to the story or worth 10 bucks. Mark of the Assassin was absolute crap, and belongs in the atrocious category of the Mass Effect 3 DLCs.

I did really like Awakening though. It was fun as hell, expands the wardens story, and provided 20+ hours more of content.

In closing, I don't really enjoy DLCs unless they're really something exciting and great, not half baked versions of the original base game. I do really like expansion packs generally, like Awakening and Shivering Isles from Elder Scrolls, and would gladly pay the price for them.

BioWare games usually have around 4 pieces of DLC:

So I'm anticipating those to be released over about a year, so 2015: February, May, August, November.

All will depend on how well the game does and its first batch of dlcs.

Just my two bits.
