Im old school, if i love a game enough to buy the expansion it is one of the better feelings in gaming to rush back home to continue the story so to speak, i dont get that with dlc, the only feeling i get with dlc is ohhh over already, everything has its place though an hopefully DA:I is well received enough to warrant a expansion and many many DLC
No more all out expansion packs?

For better or worse, expansion packs in the video game industry are dead. We can expect story DLC's like we got in DA2 though.

Dragon Age 2 didn't have an expansion pack because it was Dragon Age 2.
If I remember correctly they planned on having an Exalted March expansion for Dragon Age 2, but since DA2 wasn't well received they only did two story DLCs and dropped it.
Essentially turning the expansion into the basis of DAI.
Legacy was good, it showed quality that was missing from DA2, and MotA would have been good if Tallis wasn't so annoying.
Though it was enjoyable telling her off and the party banter was fun.
While MotA was in the same vain as the ME Citadel DLC, it wasn't nearly as atrociously bad; no Cloneloo or unforgivably terrible writing.

Really disliked this review. Angry Joe is a good personality but this is a pretty poor review, he's generally not good at these types of games lol, and doesn't understand them too well.

I prefer major expansions and always will, but the trend seems to be that devs/publishers are sticking with the DLC model these days. I wouldn't really expect much more than a couple of story-related DLCs at most for DA:I, but I guess you never know.

He loves dragon age origins so it's not like he does not understand what he's playing.

So I'm pretty happy with the base DLC we've been getting (like Lair of the Shadow Broker? it was good). But I also love me some large expansions. That said we haven't had a BioWare game (since the late 90s) that's been structured, map wise, same as DAI. Basically we get large free roam maps right? What I'm hoping is that due to the structure of the world is, that if they do DLC they'll make a large map like those and do there story with in that.
I also hope due to the nature of these maps each DLC has more of a drive to fill it with content outside the main story. Even if that's a non-quest related dungeon or cave or something. Exploration is a big part of DAI, I'd expect the DLC to hold true to that as well. Basically if each DLC is another medium sized large map with it's own side story arch and some stuff to do, inquisition keeps to take, caves to explore... I'd be pretty damn happy and I'd definitely buy alls of the stuffs given I had the money.
Also a large expansion with multiple large maps in the vein of Awakening? Hell yeah I'd be down for that. Really hoping for DAO style, few small DLC, one large DLC expansion thing with multiple maps.

Best DLC bioware has EVER done was the Citadel DLC. Bar none.
As long as they bring back the voice cast I will be okay with the smaller dlcs.
Prefer expansions since we get more bang for our buck.

I liked the DLC's in ME 2,3 and DA 2, particularly compared to DA:O and ME. They were different and unique and featured new and interesting locations and allowed you do things you couldn't do in the base game which was something that previously had to be done in expansions, DA:O and ME dlc was short and recycled a lot of game assets in the locations while later games featured completely new locations and gameplay styles. In ME 2 I loved being able to do stealth in Arrival or fight a spectre in LotSB, or just case the joint for Kasumi's loyalty mission and place a statue at the Normandy crash site. In ME 3 the Citadel opened up a whole new area you could go back to and visit crew off duty, Leviathan allowed me to 'be' a spectre and track down the leviathans and visit several new worlds, and I loved getting to go back to Eden Prime for a mission. In DA 2 I got to mingle with the elite and do some sneaking in MotA and Legacy was visiting an old Grey Warden prison in the desert and delving into Hawks past and root of the blight and proving once and for all that the it began when the mages entered the black city which meant the chantry wasn't lying. The problem with DLC is they only add a few hours, which was fine in ME as the game's were about 40-50 hours and they both had several major and minor dlc but DA tends more to 70-100 and adding just a few more hours just doesn't feel like it's adding that much particularly when DA 2 got only 2 dlc's.
I doubt well see a retail expansion for one simple reason though. Cost. Because playstation and xbox have their own stores for download content and pc users have to have origin even if they make a 20 hour expansion it will simply be sold as a dlc and not a game disc you can buy. Honestly it should be fine though, they will probably open up a new sup region or 2 to explore and do quest in and that should add enough hours to keep most people busy.

Yeah you know what now that it's been said, if they do a 'large expansion' and NONE of the companions carry over im... gonna be disappointed again. I liked Awakening and all but it felt a bit dead compared to the main game due to the complete and total companion swap. More so when you consider the romance stuff. That said I'm hoping for as I've said sizeable DLC, preferably with the voice cast brought back for each one.

Yeah companions not carrying over to expansion is not so fun for me either. I'm all for new companions, but not at the expense of nearly all of your old companions. It doesn't even have to be every single companion that carries over, like if it doesn't make sense for the story at all (like Morrigan or King Alistair).

As I recall, DA2 was supposed to have one, but it was scrapped due to low dlc sales, and some of its plot points have been folded into Inquisition. Hopefully, if it does well, we will see an expansion for Inquisition at some point.
Not because of low sales. But so they can get everyone working on Inquisition.

Exalted March could've been the saving grace of DA2. Now we can only hope DA:I revives a franchise that's been burnt badly.

DA 2 wasn't that bad, I kinda liked not being a predestined hero. Still, it could have benefited from an expansion or couple of more dlc's.

Hey,
I would hope that they bring back "real" expansions with almost as much content as a new game (should be easier now, that the framework (DA:I itself) exists
)
I would love additional story-stuff and also additional regions (Tevinter, Kal-Sharok, The Anderfells, Antiva, Nevarra, maybe even the Black City...etc.
) and additional companions (or the option to take advisors out for missions)

My guess is most of those areas are being saved for future games. Origins had Ferelden, 2 had Kirkwall in the Free Marches and Inquisition has Orlais I'm sure the next one will feature yet another country in Theads but any expansion or dlc will likely just add a smaller region within a known country because they are familiar with the style and culture and can save those new exotic lands for the next installment in a few years.

If this game is successful enough then maybe by some miracle we'll get an expansion pack.
But frankly I think it is alot more likely for EA to milk the crap out of us with dlcs.

I didn't realize awakening was that long. Sadly I never played it because I had to reformat my HDD after Direct2Drive (The platform I purchased DA:O on) went defunct. I'd have to buy DA again from another platform.
No need to buy it again. Your product code/cd-key is valid for the EA/Origin download regardless of where you first bought the game!

Given the amount of time that Inquisition may run, worrying over potential expansions is premature. The main campaign is supposedly pushing 50 hours, with additional side quests and secondary stuff this game might right add almost as much more.
That will carry me for a while, since I want to create several different types of Inquisitors.

Not exactly. They already started working on the expansion (which at first was supposed to be another dlc, as Gaider said on tumblr). The reason they dropped is that they decided to focus all their energy on DAI, so they dropped the expansion and put some of the content of the expansion in DAI (I guess the mage-templar war?).Dragon Age 2 didn't have an expansion pack because it was Dragon Age 2.

I think that even teased about the expansion in some conference, with t-short with Exalted Marches written on them.
