Of all the characters I have witnessed die permanent deaths in the various video games I have played, none have moved me so much as the death of Dr. Mordin Solus.

Flint Fireforge from the Dragonlance books...ripped my heart out when that gruff dwarf died, had to put the book down for a few days before I could go back to it.

Zack Fair from Final Fantasy 7:Crisis Core, to this day the most heroic character I've ever seen and the most emotionally impactful death...

I saw Cailan's death in DAO coming but it still hit me because his character was so charming and idealistic

Also agree about Madison Saint James in Alpha Protocol, did not see that one coming

Mordin and Legion. Didn't care much about Thane (he was dying anyway), but those two made me cry like a little girl. I so wanted to save them.

Leandra's death was touching, but I felt more angry than sad (although the momet at the mansion and dialogue with Gamlen was much more difficult to bear than the death itself).

And (surprisingly) unexpected death in Infamous: Second Son.

Dupre sacrificing himself in Ultima 7 Part 2, was kind of a shocker. Very old game though, and I was alot younger back then. Dupre is the fellow in my avatar pic, by the way.

I quoted a post that said "Burial at Sea :spoiler: with my own spoiler tagged post. Frankly if it wasn't obvious what my own spoiler tag was about whatever BaS spoiler the person I quoted was talking about, you can only blame yourself for not thinking before clicking to read my post. I mean come on, that could not have been more blatant that my own post was also about Bas.

...what in blazes are you talking about? You aren't the one I quoted, and the one I quoted just said Bioshock Infinite, not Burial at Sea.

Cordelia's death in SaGa Frontier 2 during the "Infiltrate Alexai Gang" quest--rectified that death by choosing a different party member, therefore avoiding her death.

Zeke :(  I didn't want to kill him.  He was an ******* at one point yeah, but in 2 he was really cool and he was your boy.  Loved the character and the voice actor.  Had me laughing all the time.

Most recent one I can remember is the death at the end of Red Dead Redemption. I wasn't expecting it. Won't say who, in case people still haven't played the game, but yeah, I cried like ten babies that day.

Though it's not death as we know it, but tainting the Water Dragon body in Jade Empire was such a horrible scene that the one time i made that choice (tainting the water dragon "a god" and taking her powers) i actually couldn't watch it to the end, i turned off my xbox mid scene, restared then chose the other option
it just felt so wrong

Modrin's death was really sad
Legion's death only effects me if he is killed by me and tali, the last question he asks, and tali's answer..

I've seen videos of Tail killing herself if i sided with the geth, well, no way in hell i could ever do it, just watching the video made me tear up

Lost Odyssey Spoiler

i hope we won't add new deaths when Inquisition is out, though to be honest death does give value and depth to stories : (

Oh man, Lost Oddysey.. good call. Such a great game. And MGS, 3, and 4 I didn't list. FF8. RDR. There's a bunch I could list, but I'm just mostly thinking recent right now.. There are some great games out there. I can't think of it all. (negative example though: early in GTA5, won't say who)

Amending my other list for other media:

There are a lot of moments from Game of Thrones (mostly new to me through television) and tons of characters from Walking Dead (tv and game) and from Spartacus (Blood and Sand etc). Most moments I really love are moving, but I don't shed tears that much. Spartacus left my entire family in tears at the end... A couple of them from Highlander. (edit: There's more, but I could spend all night thinking of what to list and I don't want to spoil anything specific for things people haven't seen, shows like The Big C, etc...) ..I guess most people here have seen Cowboy Bebop? The end of that. Seems like all the great anime are tragic. :P

I can't name all the great films that hit me like that, where it's just awestruck or yearning or.. It's just a whole other ball game. Film is just a fully mature medium; there're so many great moments and great movies, from "Neverending Story" and "Lean on Me" to "My Girl" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" to "Amelie" and "Black Swan" and "Girl with The Dragon Tattoo" and "Let The Right One In". A lot of the time, it's more that they can just absorb you and keep you on the hook rather than a death per se in my examples, but it's the same depth of feeling I get. The most recent one that really struck me with the death of a character was "Under The Skin", the one with Scarlett Johansson, but I can't spoil it.
