Well, yeah.

Wynne. Unlike a lot of people, I actually like her, a lot.

I guess Bethany death when I go mage. Seeing what that person could of been, and having her life taking before she could even start. Heartbreaking.

Legion's death. I wasn't expecting it. I played mass effect 3 before I got to the other two first so I felt no real connection to the Geth VI, but friggin' Legion dropping dead after a truce came between the quarians and geth, I was silent and teary eyed as hell

Game of Thrones, Oberyn Martell, I should have seen it coming, and I did, but I lied on the floor for a few minutes after that.

1st place bar none.

Oberyn in game of thrones completely wrecked me emotionally.

2nd place

Leliana and Wynne in DA:O (Did it - but in a positive way). The fact that these characters were so true to their personality that they actually tried to kill me and died in the process for defiling the ashes of Andraste - gave me a respect for Bioware that will never diminnish.

3rd place

Raziel choosing to sacrifice himself to help Cain kill the elder god in the soul reaver universe.

1) Damn straight. There was one small moment where I thought they wouldn't do it. Then he pulled the spear out and I knew exactly where that was going to go. A shame, since he was by far the better fighter too.  :(

3) Yeah, I was mulling that one over for a while. It is amazing though how well that plot line came together.

Okay I'll put down a few though I'm only counting the ones that made me make some kind of sad sound or I had to put down the controller for a bit after words. So either expressing distraught vocally or having to take a short break to deal with it.

Also putting mine in spoiler tags just in case someone hasn't gotten to those parts in the games yet. Games included are DAO, ME3, FO3, Fable 3, and DA2

I have cried a lot in games- often, but not exclusively when a character died. I often saw it coming (Thane, anyone?), but I am a crybaby and tears flow out of my eyes no matter what, as long as I am attached to the character. Worst I have ever cried was in The Walking Dead and in the Metal Gear Solid-Series. And I have cried in BioWare games as well, especially in DA 2 and ME3.

Surprising the heck out of me?

- MGS 4 (didn't see the very end coming)

- That moment in The Walking Dead Season 2- Episode 2 (game)

- The beginning and the end of The Last of Us

- Edi's epilogue in the Synthesis ending

- The last moments with Ezio and Altair in Assassin's Creed: Revelations

- Sully's "death" in Uncharted 3

- The end of Journey

It's pretty hard to experience a story completely without being spoiled. Luckily, I still get emotional despite being spoiled, otherwise my shirt would have been much less wet when playing MGS 3.

Actually, it was early in my very first playthrough of DAO.

At Ostagar, at the top of of the Tower of Ishal after defeating the Ogre and lighting the beacon (which took several reloads, since at that point I hadn't yet figured out all the mechanics of controlling companions) the game switches to a cutscene of the battlefield.  Watch the deaths of Cailan and Duncan, followed by a return to the Tower.  I was expecting to jump back to controlling my (newly joined) Warden.  Instead, zip-zip-zip, stuck with Darkspawn arrows faster than you can say, "Maker's Breath!".  Fade to Black.

I was sure that I'd get the "You have been defeated" screen, and was feeling like, "Wha...?  Hey!?!  What could I have done?  Did I miss something?"  :crying:

Just as I began to be very depressed, (and more than a little angry) the light came up on the scene of my Warden waking in Flemeth's Hut. :o

There have been a lot of character deaths that have gotten to me but my pilot Faridah Malik getting killed in Deus Ex Human Revolution hit me pretty darn hard.

The plane gets hit and she crash lands. Then a small army descends on her while she spends her last moments saying her farewells as I attempt to fight them off and fail. Ugh I felt like complete crap as I moved on to the next area. Later on I had found out that it's actually possible to save her so I loaded up the autosave before the fight and kept doing the battle over and over again and failing and failing until I figured out a good strategy and finally managed to succeed. I know it's just a game and none of it is real but that didn't stop me from running around the house jumping and fist pumping like I won the dang Lotto.

As she flies off after fixing her aircraft I hear my favorite lines from the game:

Malik: "Thanks Spyboy."

Jensen: "Anytime Flygirl."

I'm not doing it justice here but it's a great moment in-game. YouTube it if you're interested.

I'm probably forgetting a few, but the one that stands out the most to me is Thane's death in ME3.  The funny part is that I didn't particularily like Thane that much as a character and never used him in my squad.  On top of that, I'm not religious at all, but the reading Shepard and Kolyat do with Thane at the end and Thane's obvious need of redemption somehow got to me.

Mordin's death was also very well done.

I can't really think of any other games where I've been attached enough to the characters to care that much.  ME3 had two things going for it:  Bioware writers and the fact that we had two other games to get acquainted with the characters.

So many people have said it now, but Mordin in ME3

Tali's suicide in ME3 (I hadn't played it yet, but had played ME and ME2) It was my brother's playthrough - didn't affect him at all, but I couldn't breathe for a moment

Mordin Solus is probably the most powerful one.  Legion's is right up there too.

I agree with Magister Caedus' regarding The Walking Dead:

I wanted to add Master Asia's death from Mobile Fighter G Gundam in its original Japanese recording. What is even more sad is when they had to rerecord the lines for Gundam Next Plus which had so much emotion in it like you can hear Domon's Japanese VA just get so choked up

Agree on that aswell.

I love roleplaying villains, but even I had problems shooting Mordin in the back in ME:3 :( Despite the love for roleplaying evil characters (to explore the human condition) killing Mordin went so much against everything I stand for IRL that I almost couldnt bear to stay in character.

It's such a well crafted scene though.  The gun that Shepard used, tossing it away and so on.  Amazing.  I could never do it myself :P

I could only do it with Padok Wiks, after Mordin died on the Suicide Mission. And even that was pretty hard, Padok Wiks was also a cool character and just shooting him in the back...

I didn't have Wiks, but my friend did and said it was still pretty awesome.  I just watched the video and it still strikes a chord:

"For... eternity... ^_^ "

I *really* love the satisfaction on his face.  He's about to die, but I just get the feeling that he could think of no better way to go than to give his life doing what he did..."  Goosebumps territory! :)

ME3 spoiler

I remeber such a moment from ME3, when I thought that Grunt fell in battle. I have a soft spot for all Krogans, espesially Grunt and Wrex, so it was a very nasty, unexpected, but short (thank the Maker!) moment for me and my Sheppard.

Thane in ME3. So sad it made me cry.

Alistair in DAO. I played without knowing anything about the game on my first play through. My character was romancing him and I didn't take up Morrigan's offer since it seemed super creepy. I was planning to have my character make the sacrifice and then... BAM. WOW. That really knocked me for a loop. Cried about that one too.

Legion too.

Mordin's death definitely made me sad. That Salarian was awesome incarnate. Anderson too. Kinda saw them both coming, but I still had to fight back the man tears. T^T

When this man kill your pupil and her daughter in the NWN 2 OC

.. Yeah I am replaying through this game right now  . I just realized how this game always been  so underrated. Especially Mask of the Betrayer. The narrative mode in this game is sooooooooooo great. The persuavie check and some of the companion betraying you. Wish I could see more of this in modern RPG. Which I doubt. RPG have become so bland/mainstreamed now.

You need to replay the oldies to realize   how much RPG have lost .. their ''RP'' in them !

Pretty much everyone that's already been mentioned in mass effect 3 and Leandra

Movies: Paulie in Lost and Delirious and all the Harry Potter characters mentioned. I'm not sure if I saw Dobby mentioned but that one did me in. Oh my, too many to list.

Animals: the dog in Fable 2, Marley and Hooch.
