This isn't really a sausage-fest, if you want one those look at the CoD games. Women are barely present, if even at all, and it's almost entirely buff male dudes doing all the awesome stuff and when many games like those add in female's you know what they do?

They give then less armor, have inappropriate cleavage, and high heels randomly thrown in.

Bioware has a very good track record with making Men and Women important members of their stories and have a decently balanced playable roster.

They don't have it as mostly men or women, a median is best and Bioware aims to give equal representation. Besides, Bioware is also known for pushing equal reputation in sexuality as well as races and even religions. Bioware shows there's Good and Bad with the Religious Orders in their games when they're in them and that the people within them are very different and don't always agree.

I'm happy Morrigan and Leliana aren't party members.

Varric is too many by himself, I don't need two more returning party members taking the places of brand new characters.

On the other point, I love sausage.

Characters are characters. If they're engaging and I enjoy having them around. I could care less what their genders are. Besides I generally tend to prefer males to females anyhow.

On the whole, most of the male characters have story reasons for being that gender.    Cole was already a character in Asunder, Varric was returning from DA2, Dorian suffers in his home culture from being gay, Iron Bull was assigned to his role by the Qun (who have specific ideas about which gender is suitable for each job).    If Solas wasn't male, then there would be no male elf companion character.    That leaves Blackwall.    May be he could have been female - we won't know until he tells us his history.

Iron Bull isn't a soldier, he's Ben-Hassrath; both genders can join that.

Advisors seem like big part of Inquisition and will probaply have as much content than companions so I would count them in as well. There we have 2 women and 1 man. It's true that there is more male party members overall though. I'm not too bothered with it since we have lot of strong women around Inquition so I wouldn't call DAI sausagefest at all.

The problem I see with DA:I romance so far is that the only human option for a straight female protagonist seems to be Cullen. Ok, I get that he has a huge funbase, but how will this wirk for pro-mage players? No romance? Or would Cullen *suddenly* change his poin of view? This was poorly thought through, IMHO.

1. Straight female PCs will also have access to one (or more, but probably just one) of Blackwall, Solas and Varric. None of them are anti-mage as far as we know, and one is a mage himself. They also get Iron Bull, but I can see that a pro-mage character might have even more trouble with a Qunari than with a Templar.

2. I'm told that part of Cullen's appeal is his flailing over a female mage during her Origin story, and I lot of players seem to want to recreate that dynamic by romancing him with a mage PC anyway. I imagine that the conclusion of DA2 may have modified his opinions on mages one way or another.

Speaking of influential females, let's not forget one who just might be the most powerful and influential character in the entire DA universe: Flemeth.

You haven't ever played a CoD game have you?

And BioWare is more than guilty of that in their games

how about that leather armor in DA:O?  That choker and belly were the hallmarks of truly advanced armor designs

i *suppose* if your an archer or a mage you can try to excuse it at least, but if you in melee combat your gonna have a bad day if you bring the dalish armor to a fight

Not as guilty as the dudebro or "Eastern" Games, especially the Eastern Games where logic doesn't matter when it comes to female attire.

Bioware has done it before but more often than not they don't take it to crazy levels.

Cullen's views should have changed a lot after DA2, after what Meredith did and the such. Cullen even orders the Templars to abandon Meredith in favor of Hawke regardless of what position Hawke took or whether Hawke was a Mage or not or if Hawke spared Anders and Anders is literally in his/her party.

Speaking of influential females, let's not forget one who just might be the most powerful and influential character in the entire DA universe: Flemeth.

Flemeth is indeed Pure Awesome.  And she may be hella powerful, and I hope we find out more.  Not too much more, though; I think she works best as a mysterious and unknowable force.  But she functions as a motivator, not a companion.  So far, at least, her job in the story is to set you on your path, give you advice, display a bit of snarky humour and then become a dragon and vanish for the rest of the game.

No one is saying that there are not powerful women in the universe.  But a powerful motivator is not the same as a powerful companion, and in this game, 2/3 of the party members are male.  You'll spend most of your time choosing from that pool to actually play the game.  Yes, other people, some of them women, will do things in the background and act as (highly competent) off-screen support.  But the actors in the party will be overwhelmingly male.

Yes, other games (like CoD) are worse.  But Bioware games are usually better.

2. Whoever told you that is mistaken. Most Cullen fans like him because of his development over the games and because of the potential for further development in DAI. Most of those who want to romance him with a mage want to do so because they want to see the friction, not the infatuation. They want to see how he reconciles his previous stance with any present romantic feelings.

But most people don't care about the facts. They want to believe exactly what you say, and they're determined to do so no matter what anybody says to the contrary. Whatevs.

I didn't intend any offence. I've been told by several friends who want to romance Cullen that they first became interested during the mage origin, but I know that his fans have lots of reasons for liking him. I was just responding to the 'straight pro-mage females will have no-one to romance' argument.

true, but you're also limited to those 3 females where as with the males you can mix and match and get some different dialogue/banter.

Wasn't DAO and 2 the same way?

Anyway I'm still just happy we can pick our PC's race and gender.
