Sandal is the great anomaly of the Dragon Age universe.
He comes from the Deep Roads! The place where fake dusters don't make it back!

He is kind of a running joke, like Maiq the liar for the Elder Scrolls. I'd be surprised if Sandal was ever to play a bigger role than that.

Really? Not even with the enigmatic prophecy?

Maiq happens to be quite lucid sometimes. Doesn't make him something else than a way for the devs to make an easter egg.
Granted that the Prophecy is troubling, but I just can't imagine Sandal having a big role, though I understand people curiosity about him.

The odd thing is that if his Dad was a male dwarf then according to their customs he would have been accepted into his family even if his mother was a low caste dwarf or non-dwarf since that would normally go by gender. So either his Mum was kicked out into the deep roads before he was born or they dumped him there much later when they realised he appeared a bit "simple". It is possible that his Mum was a Grey Warden, since that is the most likely explanation for the presence of a non-dwarf in royal circles and this may also account for his resistance to the taint. Since Grey Wardens generally are not able to have children there are probably not enough of them around to have conclusive evidence that resistance to taint can be inherited. The combination of concentrated lyrium exposure, ritual magic (warden) and inherited magic (from his Mum) might also account for his strange gifts.

I like the theory that Sandal is tied up with Flemeth, Morrigan and Leliana (there's just no way this sentence is going to end well) in the overall scheme of the franchise. I don't have any idea what the overall scheme is, but I think they're all part of it.

That's my theory. His elven genes are telling him he's supposed to be a mage, hence NOT enchantment, but they're not playing nice with he dwarven immunity.

Maybe they kicked a pregnant woman out into the Deep Roads and she raised him.
A pregnant woman survived in the deep roads...lol, then gave birth, and raised the infant in the deep roads.... double lol

That is part of the overall mystery with Sandal. How did he survive in the darkspawn infested of the fallen dwarven thaigs and remain untainted (as Ruck did, due to having nothing else to eat but tainted meat)?

He might not need to eat...which...would be something.

I believe that Sandal will play just as big a role as Flemeth (if not bigger)
Perhaps, Flemeth and Sandal are the last two remaining old gods. Razikale, the Dragon of Mystery and Lusacan, the Dragon of Night.(With Morrigans child being the Reincarnation of Urthemiel, the Dragon of Beauty.)
Flemeth describes herself as "...a fly in the ointment...A whisper in the shadows...an old, old woman." This always stood out to me as a player. As we know she has been around for a long long time so too have the old gods. Remembering the story that Morrigan told the Warden that Flemeth made a deal with a spirit. What if she Made a deal with a trapped Old God. allowing Razikale to join with her and escape the Dark Spawn who would have transformed her into an ArchDemon.
All I have is speculation, this could help explain why Flemeth has such high respect for the Grey Wardens in DA:O as they are the only one's who can end the Dark Spawn threat and save the Old Gods. Also Morrigan explains that performing the ritual needed to give birth to a child with the soul of an Old God was Flemeth's plan all along. Perhaps Flemeth wishes to save her brothers and sisters from oblivion and bolster their strength against the 'Plummet into the Abyss' Which may be referring to the tearing of the veil in DA:I.
With Even less evidence I can't help but think Sandal is an Old God, after all he was found in the Deep Roads. How deep in, I don't know but the Old Gods are also trapped there as well. And again maybe Lusacan felt the encroaching Dark Spawn and did the only thing he could, melding his soul into a (relatively) nearby Dwarf. Perhaps because of Dwarven resistance to magic or because Lusacan forced itself into Sandal caused such incredible strain on Sandals mind that it broke leaving him retarded.
Like I said this is only my own speculation but it would explain Sandals enchanting abilities as well as how he survived the deeproads and how he was able to freeze an ogre by mean's of "Not Enchantment".

Whenever I see the bit where Sandal says "When he rises, everyone will see," all I can think of is Alexius' line: "The Elder One comes for you, for me, for all of us."
Cthulhu confirmed for final boss, and Flemeth's emo ex-boyfriend.
Edit: And now I can't stop listening to N.Y. State of Mind. I'd say that was a bad thing, but that would be a massive, bald-faced lie.
