1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

As a pansexual woman, I prefer romancing men and women with female characters. I've romanced a female LI with a male character before, which turned out to work pretty well because 1) the male character ended up being very similar to me in terms of personality and 2) I didn't miss not being a woman as much when there was a woman featuring prominently in my character's story (and not in a typical het love story kind of way, either). I plan on doing something similar with a Qunari mage Inquisitor and Cassandra.

I'll also romance Dorian with a male Inquisitor. I'm hoping my love of Dorian outweighs my general ambivalence to dudecentric strories.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

In games where it's a little easier to make characters recognizably hispanic or multi-racial, I tend to do so (after my obligatory green-eyed brunette). One of my Hawkes is of Antivan descent, but she's barely darker than my white Hawke because DA2's skin options are so limited. I'm hoping Inquisition is better in that regards, so I can have a wide variety of Inquisitors across the game races.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive?

White, not a male, but I would love to romance Vivienne. My reservations about her beliefs and attitudes aside, I think she's absolutely gorgeous (she's up there with Jack for most beautiful BW character for me) and I can't wait to see her in action in the game.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

I have to be in the right frame of mind to play a female elf (thanks City Elf origin!), but I have no problem playing dwarves and I have at least two qunari inquisitors planned. I'll probably play all the races at least twice, just to see all the romances and to play all the interesting specs.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

2) I eventually do a straight play through, at least to see what romances like Cassandra will be like.  I'm not exactly "comfortable" with it, you know cause its not normal for me but its not uncomfortable either. Its just, I seeing how the story progresses with them. Its totally fine by me, its just not something I go out of my way to do more than once. And I actually enjoyed the Morrigan romance more than Zevran; she is way deeper than him I think... no pun intended...

3) Playing as a female character is fine; I almost always play male characters (easier to "roleplay" I guess). Whenever I do play a female character, they're a HUGE B!TCH. And I mean that in a good way, they get sh!t done.

4) This never really occurred to me. I guess I don't; I always make white characters. The only time I only ever make darker-skinned characters are in games like Skyrim where I like playing as a dark skinned Wood Elves (Like Briala) or Redguards. Does that count lol?

6) I like her; Her clothes look cool, the horns are awesome. And she is going to be a b!tch who don't need no man, even better. I can respect people like her, its women who are all whiny and stereotypically girly and truly believe they're weak that I dislike.

7) Most of my characters are elves or humans. I seriously dislike dwarves. Because I seriously like height. Which means I'm going to play lots of Qunari. I've never had an issue playing as a separate race; once

Race, sexuality, romances, and whether to play as yourself or an independent character, throw in some trashtalk about how The Witcher is a better series and how voiced protagonists are evil and you'll have hit every major topic of BSN.

With all that being said, where do you stand on such issues?

Whatever, let's do this. INB4LOCKDOWN!

1) Meh, I got over all that in... high school? College? Somewhere around there. And now I have a horrible desire to swamp this post with gifs of John Barrowman. I don't know why either, just, you know.

2) N/A

3) Yes.

4) Doesn't this just ask the same question as 5 except covered in a layer of white stuff?

5) [Sarcasm] Oh yes, all my PCs are so mixed race. This one is a bit of Korean and African but with a very French nose, this one is Hispanic-Irish or as I call it Martin Sheen/Ernesto Guevara, and this one is so hapa pake that it is just darling. [/Sarcasm] No, you know how hard it is to create a mixed race character that anyone else wouldn't just label as something singular raced. Honestly I'm probably just going to play as the broader range of white looking characters.

6) I will not be romancing Vivienne because I think she is too cool for the Inquisitor.

7) Honestly I'm having trouble thinking of a unique character that's human this time. God, I love having an active imagination, it really puts me on a high standard of originality.

It's not like I have anything better to do so...

1. No. I always see myself in the characters I play. I put a little bit of myself whether it's male or female. So I don't romance male characters. I rarely play female characters though

3. Yes. I don't play females often though. FemShep is the only female protagonist I've enjoyed playing, because I actually care about this character unlike the DA protagonists

4&5. I sometimes make white characters and brown characters. That's it.

6. I am not attracted to Vivienne. I am not attracted to any of the characters.

7. I won't be playing Dwarf. Most of my Inquisitors will be elves, maybe one or two humans/qunari.

1. Totally comfortable with it, but I'd like to think I'd have better wooing skills than my male PC counterpart. I myself would not have given my male Hawke the time of day, but maybe that's a good thing? I don't really want to think about being attracted to a character who is effectively an extension of myself.

3. As comfortable as I am playing any character who is not a direct copy of me. I like to roleplay and I'm a completionist. I want to experience a game every which way I can, which means coming at things with a different perspective. It may seem like a cosmetic thing (playing a different species or sex) but I really try to let my headcanon for a character shape the game I'm playing.

4. Yes. But I have some dislike for Origins' darker skin tones. They just looked a bit off. I'm really excited for Inquisition's character creator! Everything looks amazing.

6. Straight/white/female... I think Vivienne is gorgeous!  I wish I had her style and poise and cheekbones. Maybe she can take my Inquisitor shopping (without the snobby Mean Girls vibe, please).

7. I will have at least 1 more human than I will dwarves, because they can't be mages. But I would ultimately like to experience every race/class combo. I do love the ability to play other races and get more experience with their own culture, but that doesn't mean I find humans boring simply because I am one in real life.

I don't live in Thedas. (I have mixed feelings on that: I love the idea of dragons and magic, but I also love medicine, and hygiene.) So the culture and experiences of humans in Thedas is still interesting to me, and I want to explore them as much as I want to explore the other races and cultures. Like I said above, I am a completionist, so I want to experience ALL THE THINGS.  I absolutely love that in Dragon Age I have so many choices for shaping my character.  :)

You get the snobby Mean Girls "Get in loser, we're going shopping" vibe or you don't get real shopping. Half the fun is in being catty and I wouldn't have it any other way.

1) N/A

2) As a pansexual woman that prefers men, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I welcome the choices and the chance for me to break out of my comfort zone.  In fact, I'm planning on a Dorian romance for partially that reason alone.

3) Yes, I enjoy playing male characters from time to time.  It's not very easy for me, sometimes.  Part of my reason, as shallow is this sounds, is because I have trouble getting a nice looking face in the CC.  I'm also beginning to find that I enjoy the female VAs over the male ones.  They seem to have more of a range of emotion in their lines.

4) Oh yes, as long as the character creator has decent options for darker skin.  Some of the ones in DA2 that come with mods look pretty nice.  Plus, I'm a sucker for making dark haired/darker skinned/blue (or green) eyed men.

5) N/A

6) Mostly N/A, but I'll answer since I think Vivienne might be bisexual.   She's gorgeous and I might roll up a character down the road to romance her.

7) Mine will be across the board, but I'm one of those oddballs that prefer dwarf.  I actually plan on playing less humans, just like I did with DA:O.  I think the story of the humans is quite interesting, but I'm more curious about the rest of the races more.  I don't think I'd have any real trouble playing one race or the other, I just go with what hooks me.

You bring up a lot of important perspectives. I can see why heterosexual players sometimes don't like being hit on by the same sex, and vice versa.

At the same time, I like when being hit on is included outside the current party you're traveling with. It creates an interesting situation if some random NPC you're meeting has an attraction.

1) Skipped.

2) No, I create straight, gay, bi, asexual, etc. characters. Never really bothered me to romance females as long as it fits into the character I'm creating.

3) No.

4) I mix it up.

5) Skipped.

6) I'm sure I'll make a character one day to romance her if she is an option.

7) I will probably be human about 50% of the time and the other 3 races 50%.

Bi Female

 1)  I have absolutely zero issue playing opposite my gender to gain access to the romance of a character I adore. I did as much for Tali  and Steve :) It's never a first playthrough though. I enjoy being able to kick ass and chew bubble gum as a Lady when ever I can, so any opposite gender PC I make is always secondary.

2) see #1

3) as per # 1 I almost always prefer to play female if given the option. I'll go back a second (5th) time and roll up a male for a specific character's romance if they're straight or a Gay Male.

4) I've increasingly have made most of my ladies less-white over the years, despite being practically see-through. Both my Cannon Hawke and my Cannon Shepard were medium-toned Hispanic. But that might just say more about what I find attractive then anything   (nothings hotter then a feisty Latin lady who can kick my ass)

5) N/A

6) If I can't at LEAST get the chance to waggle my eyebrows at Vivienne I'm going to be the saddest person in the universe. Seriously. Unf.

7) No I don't believe they will be human. I mean I'll have one I'm sure, but more then likely my cannon Inquisitor is going to be Qunari.

1. Straight white male here. I'll happily romance anyone with a female character, but I'll only romance women with a male character. I think it's because I can only play characters who do things I might do. If I were a woman, maybe I would still be attracted to women or maybe I'd still be straight. I dunno,so I'll do either one with a female character. As a man, though, I know I haven't got interest in male partners, so my male characters don't either.

3. Very comfortable playing a female character.

4. I do create non-northern-European characters from time to time. In the DA games so far, though, it's been tough to make them not look silly. The darker skin tones just end up looking awful in game, and the hairstyles are pretty bad. If they've fixed that for Inquisition, I'll be very pleased.

6. I'd be comfortable romancing Vivienne in terms of looks, but she seems like a superior, close-minded, and vicious person. So unless her character turns out very differently from that, no Vivienne romance for me, thanks,

7. I prefer playing non-humans. I liked the human noble from Origins because of the options that opened up at the Landsmeet, but that was about it. I like dwarves in all games, enjoy DA's elves a lot, and I LOVE the qunari. Horned giants? Where do I sign?

Hetero white female.

I don't mind either gender, but I only have ever played heterosexual. I don't think it's wrong, it's just my preference. If I really liked a character, I'd probably try to do a homosexual romance, but I doubt I'd like it as much as a heterosexual one (and I'm homosexual people prefer homosexual romances).

I can't recall if I've ever made a black character per se, but I have played characters that looked asian/hispanic/native america, etc. Mostly I play white characters, though, again, because I guess I just prefer to stick to my own preferences.

I will play all races, starting with dwarf because I love dwarves. Then probably, qunari, elf, and ending with human because meh, humans.

Vivienne is lovely, and if she's a romance I'll romance her at some point. I can't say I'm attracted to her since I'm straight, but she is very glam lol.

1) I'm straight, but I'm just as comfortable with the same-sex romances as the opposite-sex ones. Sometimes more so - I've found it's generally easier for me to roleplay a lesbian than a straight man. (Probably because I'm generally more comfortable playing a woman in the first place.)

2) N/A

3) I'm more comfortable playing a woman, but I've still made a lot of male characters. (Across DAO, DAA and DA2 the gender balance is 50/50.)

4) I've made a couple of DA characters who weren't white - my City Elf and one of my Orlesian Wardens. I found this rather frustrating with and engine that didn't render darker skin tones well. (I can only imagine how that would have felt if I were a person of colour trying to make a character that looked like me.) Now that they've fixed this for the new engine and Vivienne looks great, I'm already planning to make some Inquisitors closer to her skin tone than mine.

5) N/A

6) I'm a white female so I don't know if this counts, but I'll romance Vivienne at some point if she's an option. I think she's beautiful.

7) I plan for my characters to be equally divided by race - two humans, to elves, two dwarves and two qunari. I don't find it hard to play as the non-human races - in fact, it's easier for me to identify with the dwarves than any other race, physically. (I will never be as tall or as skinny as the human models inevitably are, and I'm certainly no elf.)

1. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I play male characters most of the time and they romance female characters and its not weird for me. I didn't see myself as romancing Ashley or Morrigan or Isabela, just my male character. I get into the roleplay part of the game and it doesn't bother me.

2.N/A

3. Yes, I feel very comfortable playing male characters. Its fun. My favorite playthroughs have been with male characters.

4. N/A

5. I haven't created non-white PCs in a Bioware game but I have in other RPGs like Dragon's Dogma. I liked Sheploo so I used him in all of my ME playthroughs. In DA:O the human noble origin doesn't seem to fit a non-white PC and its the one I like the most. The non-white Hawke family in DA2 never looks quite right to me, really, anything other than the default family looks a little funky, so I just stick with a white PC. And then there are CC issues with skin color and ethnic features that make it easier IMO to make white characters instead of PCs of other races but hopefully that's changed in DA:I. I do intentionally make white characters though. I don't just pick them by default. If I have a concept for a white character, I have no problem using them as a PC.

6. I'm interested to know about this myself.

7. Most of my characters will be human. I don't really get into playing fantasy races. I didn't in Skyrim, I haven't in Dragon Age. I just don't really get into it as a first option, but if I the CC gives me an awesome looking elf or Qunari, I could play them. Reading some of the backstories forumites have made for their elves and Qunari have put in me more in the spirit of trying them. I doubt I'll ever roll a dwarf, however.

1+2)As a demisexual player,i dont care.As long as i like them,everything goes.

3)As male who only plays female characters;yes,i do feel comfortable.Very,even.

4)Since i prefer to be pale i tend to play white and asian characters.Though i did play a black Shepard in Mass Effect once.

6)I dont care much for Vivienne, but thats because of her personality. She looks fine i guess, but i dont really care about looks. At all.

7)I doubt i'll ever play a human.I pick races judging by how interesting i find them.So i guess the majority of my playthroughs will be dwarfs again.

1 - Whenever I play a female character, I do have something of a tendency to have her be interested in female romance options if the opportunity is available, but I don't always romance them. I've quite enjoyed male romances with female PCs in the past, particularly Kaidan, Thane and Alistair.

3 - I always have a lot of fun playing female PCs as well as makes. When I was younger I didn't enjoy as much as I do now, but even then I almost always made efforts to see the game from the other gender's perspective.

4 - I don't think I really give a whole lot of thought to race when creating characters. Statistically, most of my PCs are white I suppose, but by no means all. My main Shepards are some of the my favorite RPG protagonists ever and my first one ended up looking Asian and Hispanic. And my second Male Shep was black. Most recently I ended up making a black Almain when I started playing Kingdoms of Amalur. And I'm not sure how I'd count all the characters that don't have human skin tones. For example, my Imperial Agent was orange. My Sith Warrior was bright red. To say nothing of all the orcs or Night Elves or Dreanei or Half-orcs or Khajiit and such I've also designed. I suppose the bottom line is that I'm Caucasian, but by the standards of white people, I'd probably be considered to be kind of "ethnic," so I can relate creating characters with little bit darker of skin.

6 - Do I find Vivienne attractive? I'm kind of neutral on her. She's not unattractive, but I can't possibly tell if I'm going to like her enough to romance her until I am able to play the game.

7 - No. My first one will be, but most of the rest won't.

(Straight white male perspective.)

1) I haven't done it yet, but I'd be comfortable with it. I was doing a FemShep playthrough in ME and my plan was to romance Garrus or Thane. I haven't gotten there yet because I find ME1 rather boring and tedious. I'd be okay with a M/M romance too. I'm sort of a 1 on the Kinsey Scale, actually; maybe that's why it doesn't bother me that much.

2) N/A

3) I prefer playing as a male, but I'm comfortable playing as a woman.

4) I tend to make "white" characters, but not always. My first Warden had dark skin, and my second Shep was made to be of Japanese descent. I've also played as a Redguard in Skyrim.

5) N/A

6) I don't find Viv all that attractive (and from what I've heard, I won't like her personality either). I don't find black women attractive as often as other races, but it wouldn't bother me to romance a black character solely because she's black.

7) In fantasy games, I tend to play as non-humans. I can play as one, but I tend to pick pointy-eared and magical races instead.

6) Skin colour irrelevant, especially companions and NPC. I find Vivienne attractive, except her lips look weird, and I am sure her personality will be problem.

7) Yes majority will be human. Elf easy, or Dwarf don't like play dwarf (I am tall in real life if it mater),  Qunari never play Qunari so don't know.?

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

I'm female on the hetero-ace scale. I'm definitely very comfortable playing all sexualities, but I do have obvious preferences. If I choose to play a non-ace character, I'd more often choose romancing males over females as that is what I'm attracted to personally. So F/M and M/M are usually always my primary choices, but I also do enjoy playing out a F/F and M/F romance.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

N/A

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Yep, absolutely. I always play both in Bioware games because I like accessing the romance content on both sides. On games without romances or other gender related incentives, I prefer playing female. I'll admit to occasionally choosing male if I find them more pleasing on the eye (yes it's a bit shallow, I know).

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

N/A

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

I'm myself brown skinned. I do try to create a range, but I admit to not being as diverse on this front as I'm with sexualities. It's a comfort zone I definitely want to get out of, though.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

Well I'm not white or male, so N/A I guess? But I'll say I'm down with playing a white character who romances her if she's an option and I find her personality intriguing enough to pursue that.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

My main canon inquisitor will be a female Qunari. I'm actually planning one of each gender/race combo, but chances are I'll not get to them all. I've no issues playing other races, but my least prefered race/gender combo is probably a male Dwarf.

Straight super white male here, with man beard en tow.

1) It's rare for me to but I usually don't feel to weird about it. But I kinda use a mental trick on my end - I think about my self int he shoes of the male guy my chars romancing and pick options that fit the girl char im playing that I'd... like and just see how that goes? Ultimately, its the same for me as playing a dude romancing a girl... I just switch who im identifying with during the romance to the one im not playing =P

2) Does not apply

3) Yup and no. in single player yeah, I'll play either but still play more males then girls. In online no I prefer male and feels weird representing my self in an online community as a female. Oddly more so when RP is involved.

4) Not really, all my Shepards where white, im white... though when I play a female char that goes all over the place. But I still have a tendency toward freckles and red hair. And they're usually white but ill make anything ultimately as a female char. That's if human, of course, second you get into different races its all up in the air... not gonna make a white Drow for instance (but its weird applying human racial to fantasy races to me).

5) Does not Apply

6) Extremely comfortable romancing Vivienne if shes an option and I REALLY want her as an option. I find her attractive yes, I find all of the girls attractive though. I will most likely romance Vivienne and Cassandra more then the other 2 girls available.

7) Yes and no, what I have planned aren't all human, it's more an even split at the moment. I think my first will end up being Human though. But I got an Elf and Qunari male playthrough planned, maybe a 2nd Qunari... maybe another human or elf, haven't fully decided. Kinda same for the 3-4 female playthroughs I have planned atm (more then I've done for past BioWare games).

-edit-

Oh, don't think it was a question but I don't do M/M gay romances. I'll do F/F cause I mean yeah, rawr. Though I've been streaming games recently and if the audience really, really wants to see a Dorian romance I'll end up doing a playthrough but not something I'd do on my own.

I only romance women. I create characters of a range of ethnicity. I have yet to meet a female BioWare LI I wouldn't want to romance. I plan to roll qunari, previously I've only done humans.

It depends.  If I'm role-playing a character that is meant to be like me, then I won't romance a female character.  However, I do enjoy role playing all types of characters as seeing all the content in games pleases me. It's not always about being attracted to a character for me-I just like to see what happens IF you play the game a certain way.

 3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character?

Yes!  Honestly I relate to women on a personal level, as I was raised without a father and had a lot of awesome aunts that helped raise me as well.  I feel like I'm an honorary member.  LOL!

Eh, I don't usually go out of my way to make characters any particular ethnic background, but I guess most of my characters would be considered white.  (though usually darker then me, because I'm really pale and I'm not too crazy about it on animation scale)

Doesn't apply

 6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive?

This one almost seems to be more directed to straight white males, but what the hey...  It wouldn't make me uncomfortable at all.  I'm not really attracted to her, but I think her character model is very pretty.  (there's a warped part of me that's looking forward to dressing her in different outfits like she's sort of a video game equivalent of a doll, I know it's terrible)

To soon to tell which character race I'll use most.  My pre-release guess is elf or human.  I think Qunari will probably be a one time deal just to see what all the fuss is about, possibly the same with Dwarf.  They don't appeal to me appearance wise at this time, but the character creator could change all of that come release.  If I could give my Dwarf Varric's chest hair for instance...but sadly I think they said no body hair for the inquisitor.

Only semi-romance related but something that bugged me in DAO was with Zevran. Loved the guy, always found his flirting with my male Warden hilarious and generally wanted that whole bromance thing but... they only gave me 2 options. Either yes your into it or you basically tell him to shut up. Always wished they had some kinda middle friendly option where no sex or romance is triggered you know?

Ahh well

Nope.

Comfortable?  Sure.  If it's "realistic" fantasy, I prefer playing males, though.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial?

Nope.

No, I wouldn't be comfortable romancing Vivienne, but it has nothing to do with me being a white male.  I'm not comfortable with any of Bioware's romances, as I find them to be hilariously-written tripe.  And Vivienne is not attractive.  But none of the straight females Bioware put in the game are attractive, so I suppose that only makes sense.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

If I play the game at all, which is looking less and less likely, my sole playthrough would be a human Inquisitor.  And thank you for not saying "Quizzy".
