1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex?

2) (skip)

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character?

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

5) (skip)

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive?

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

1) I have no Problem playing a female PC who romances a male PC. However, I feel uncomfortable if I try to play a homosexual PC (of either Gender), because I have Doubts I could authentically roleplay a homosexual Character.

3) Yes, I do. I like to go with that quote from GRRM: "For Starters, I always assumed Women to be human Beings." I do not roleplay them any different then I would roleplay a male Character, in most things,. Except my female Chars are into Dudes. Obviously.

4) I'm pretty stereotypical white and I am ridiculously tired of only white Protagonists. I near-always try to give my PCs Features of other Races, starting with choosing the darkest available Skin Color. The only Exception is when I play a Dwarf. But that is mostly because I feel like they couldn't get dark skinned living under a Rock.

6) I will feel VERY comfortable romancing Vivienne. She is by far the most attractive Companion in my Opinion and yes, I prefer Women with her Features. I always lamented the Fact that black Women show up so rarely in Videogames and thus I am very happy with her Inclusion.

7) Human is always the last Race I play. I find it boring to stick to Humanity in a Fantasy Game. I have currently a Dwarf Warden and an elven Warden for my completed Playtroughs and only on my third I will play a human. In Inquisition I will probably only have a Human on my fourth Playtrough.

1) (Skipped)

2) I romance who I like. I've romanced Liara and Garrus specifically only because I liked them. I romanced everyone in DA:O and DAII at least once, and the like.

3) I'm about split 60/40 with my character creations. And as a male, I tend to go female. Partially because some romances are gender locked, but also because I like seeing females take a prominent role in whatever media they're in. Fem Warden, Fem Shep, Fem Hawke, Fem Dovahkiin. And for hilarity's sake a Fem Qunari Mage just to see how big Bioware focused on reactions. Might make a Male Qunari sometime though.

4)  I tend to go with White as it's the default, and it's a bit alienating at times in Dragon Age. Skin tones tend to be white for all Origins, and the majority of all characters in said Origins go along the brighter spectrum. I only remember a dark-skinned Dwarf in the Noble origin because it was so jarring to finally see a contrast to skin tone.  That and Hawke's family looks ugly as all hell if you change them. I imagine for those reasons alone Carver/Bethany might not appear in future installments unless Bioware skimps out and forgets about it. Although my Fem Shep as of late, due to their family never being introduced has taken a more Hispanic look, and I adore her.

5) Skipped

6) Didn't know she was romance-able. Depends. First DA:O playthrough I think I went Morrigan or Zevran. DAII I went with Anders because FREEDOM MAGE IDIOTS had a nice ring to as the world went to ****. Course Merrill's a sweetheart, Fenris is alright, and Isabela is filled to the brim with wonderful as a friend or romance. (Sucked about the bug she had that lowered your speed to ****, or I'd have used her more earlier on)

7) Dwarves in DA:O felt really awkward and a bit stupid for romances. Just how they were rigged up. I didn't like their bodies at all. Elves were alright, but never went through an entire playthrough as them, because Dalish barely gets referenced and City only gets minor references during the Landsmeet. Oddly though...I did always go human when I was apart of the Circle. Noble though had the most potential to me, despite cliches.

I'm going Qunari in DA:I though, no doubt. Might go other races depending on story relevance. I'd go Turian in ME in a heartbeat. (So as long as we could roll to cover.)
And I've gone Khajiit/Argonian alongside a few Elves here or there.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

1) Yes. For instance, I've enjoyed the romance arcs of Carth, Kaidan, Thane and Zevran in the past.

2)  N/A

3) I feel comfortable with it, but I can't identify with my female characters quite as much most of the time.

4) I do, what ended up being my favorite Shepard throughout the trilogy was black.

5) N/A

6) I'd be quite comfortable with it, but I'm as of now unsure of how attractive I'll find her in the end. Based on what info I have on her thus far, combined with what screenshots there have been, I'm not instantly attracted to her. I can see she's physically a beautiful woman, but I'm not instantly attracted. I'd like to think that it's not due to her race, since there's plenty of women within my own ethnicity that I'd consider beautiful, but am not really attracted to myself.

7) For me, picking the race and ethnicity of my characters isn't something I truly nail down until I'm sitting with a character creator in front of me. I tend to just wing it and go with what combination of race, skin color and facial features feels "right" at the time. That said, most of my characters in RPG's in general have ended up being white and human in the past. Not really by conscious decision, but more a matter of fiddling around with the various sliders until thinking to myself "oh, this looks cool" and going with that.

With all that being said, where do you stand on such issues?

Okay, I will try my best to answer.

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

I am totally fine with it.  I am a hardcore roleplayer so I roleplay my characters which means there is usually a good reason for my characters to either be in a relationship or to be a bachelor. I am even fine roleplaying as a homosexual character.

2) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

As a man, as long as I can craft a good story, good reason, good build for a character, be it man, woman, I will play it just fine.

3) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

I usually create characters that are pleasing looking for me and that includes the men. I am a Tamil and when it comes to men I like to play as rugged or hardened type of men. They look more pleasing to me. As such I tend to make my male characters look rugged with scars, or complexion or facial hair or tattoos or a combination of these things.

As for women, as long as I can make them look pleasing to my eyes, I will play them. I typically like athletic women who have long hair but tied up nicely, something like Josephine and Morrigan do. That is my favorite.

Cassandra's hair length is the limit for me personally when it comes to attractiveness. It is short but she ties her hair up somewhat. So it depends usually.

4) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

Nope. I am not attracted to women with bald hair. It creeps me out. I am not a white man and if she had nice hair, would jump on her in a heartbeat. Hair in women is important to me somehow.

Again, this is a personal opinion and this only pertains to romance. I just do not find bald women to be attractive. I have tried and just can't, it feels weird.

5) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

My Inquisitors will primarily be mages and rogues.

My canon will be an Male Elf because I tend to roleplay myself as canon. Based on my height, stature and profession, I would be a male elf mage.

I have no problems playing as a Dwarf or a Qunari or a Human.

Ok, I'll bite.

Does not apply.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

Sometimes, I romanced Morrigan and Isabella on prior dragon ages.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Nope, I only did one or two female characters. I can't get into them, and I know I'm missing a lot of content but well.... :(

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Does not apply

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

I create a range of faces.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

I don't find Vivienne attractive at all.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

They'll be mostly human or qunari..maybe with some darfs thrown to the mix. No elves for me though.

Have to admit, I clicked this thread expecting a complete trainwreck, so pleasantly surprised by developments here...

1: Comfortable/uncomfortable might not be my first choice of words. I did make a female warden and did the Alistair romance, but I didn't really connect with the story as much as I did with my male characters who were with female characters, or (and yeah, I'm aware of the dudebro implications of this), my female characters who were into girls.

2: Doesn't apply

3: I like playing as female characters, both when I have a choice and for fixed protagonist games. Some of my favourite fixed character games recently had you playing as a kickass woman (Remember Me and the Tomb Raider reboot).

4: I mix it up a bit, although I do have a preference for what would be considered caucasian or hispanic characters.

5: Doesn't apply.

6: Physically, not a problem. The fact that she seems like a total ****** based on what we know so far is a turnoff, though :-)

7: Won't know for sure until I play the game, but I'll probably gravitate towards humans. Very curious about Qunari, though. Dalish elves don't interest me in the slightest, will have to see about the dwarf.

Nope. I am not comfortable with it. I only romance female characters.

I have no issues with playing a different gender.

I do create non-white characters but mainly only if they are female.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

Doesn't apply to me.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

Yes, I would be comfortable romancing Vivienne. She is attractive enough. I am not a huge fan of the buzzcut hairstyle though.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

If a game allows me to be a dwarf that is what I will play. I am a fan of dwarves/dwarfs and also own a Warhammer dwarf army (tabletop).

Hey,

I am stealing your question to post answeres beneath :)

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Note: I am male, too

I have no trouble (at all) to play a female and go after a male (prefer females, though, too) - I have a problem with being male and going after males (it's simply not normal for me - not that I hate gays and want to stick them into therapy or prison etc. - it's just something I really can't and it is one of my DA:I problems, because I like Dorian, but he is gay...I would have romanced him on my second go (with a female character)) and male pursuing a female is what I do in RL, so naturally no problem, too.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

=> Can't answer this one, sorry. (I am straight as far as I know...never had in inclination otherwise)

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Yes, I don't see females as different (hell, my hero is my hero - this one just happens to be a girl/woman...only difference: Plumbing as far as I am concerned)

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Seldomly (I just don't have much contact with POCs here in Germany (I live in the country side, no real large cities nearby (150 Kilometers is not nearby to me))

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

=> No answer (I am white after all)

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

If she is available, yes - why not (I only have a problem with overweight black women - if they are reasonably slim and good looking, I see them like any other woman (note: I absolutely hate that "big momma"-type black woman you sometimes see on TV - as I said, I seldomly see blacks with my own eyes, as there aren't that many here))

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

I don't know - because I find the Qunari fascinating :)

Dwarfs can't take my favourite class (mage!) and elfs are second (hell, third or fourth class citizens - as even human beggars are treated better than they are!) class citizens and I hate being looked down upon (or being made work extra hard to proof myself -.- or just ignored by the nobility etc.)

greetings LAX

(1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex.

Yes. I do that all the time. No problem whatsoever. The only romance type I feel uncomfortable with is m/m, which I consequently do not play. Note that this is not a political statement. Love as thou wilt, should be the rule - and I do not want m/m.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

n/a because I'm straight.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Yes, I do that all the time. I play protagonists of any gender.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

I rarely think about ethnicity when I make characters. I've had characters turn out asian or Indian more or less by accident. I experiment with skin tones and facial bone structure if possible and use the options I like best with no regard for which ethnicity would be associated with it. I only tend to stick with a caucasian nose and mouth shape because I do not find most alternatives aesthetically appealing.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

n/a because I'm white.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

As I said, I do not find the typical "Black African" face aesthetically appealing, so that's a point in her disfavor. I don't pick romances exclusively for appearance, though, and Vivienne is definitely interesting. So...it's possible. I don't know yet.

(7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

My protagonists tend to be human because non-humans are too often associated with stereotypical personality traits and I feel less constrained when I play as a human. Having said that, I've played all races in DAO and I'll play all of them in DAI. It's just that if the tendency holds, those who I consider my "main" protagonists wil likely be human.

Interesting thread!  Had a lot of fun reading about how different people approach their characters in these games.

So, I am a woman who is attracted to men - that said, I have been attracted to and would consider a relationship with a trans man - having a man look/act/identify as male is something I care about more than what's in that person's pants.  I say straight, for simplicity's sake  :) I'll just answer the questions that apply to me:

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex.

Sure, but, there would have to be something about that character that really appeals to me.  As in, while I'm not super picky about the male characters I romance (I just have to like them), there has to be something extremely compelling about a female character for me to want to romance her.

3) As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Not really, no.  Maybe 'uncomfortable' isn't the word though... I just find it a lot less fun, and find it harder to get lost in the role.  The play-throughs I tried I got bored with and never finished.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Hmm... yeah, they usually could be white.  I tend to just create characters that are attractive/striking to me without worrying about what race they look like - often they end up looking more hispanic/middle-eastern as I tend to like making women with darker skin and more 'exotic' features, though, again, it's not really intentional.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive?

(Answering this as a white woman - but one who occasionally romances women in games.) I think Viv is gorgeous.  As i said before, I am more picky about the women I romance, but that's completely dependent on personality.  I haven't yet decided if I'll love Vivienne or hate her... She sounds a bit too self-serving for my tastes, and the pro-circle thing really puts me off.  Also, I would only romance her if she's available to women.  Though I might roll a male Inquisitor to romance Dorian if I like him enough, I have zero interest in playing a straight man.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

The majority will be human, yes.  While I love Dragon Age for it's plot and characters and even its lore, I'm not a big fantasy fan otherwise, so playing fantasy races has little appeal to me.  It's not harder, really, just not my cup of tea.  Though I would play another race in the unlikely event a character I want to romance is gated against humans, and I am kind of liking the idea of playing a female Qunari - because I like the idea of playing a large, powerful, intimidating woman.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

1) I usually play hetero male characters, as that is what I am, but I have no problem playing s/s characters and find some of them to be more fun than my hetero characters.

2) N/A

3)I don't mind playing female characters, but I prefer to play male characters.

4) Yes, some of my favourite sheps and wardens are black, or asian in appearance.

5) N/A

6) I can safely say I won't have any problem romancing VIv, if she is romanceable. She is easily one of the best looking characters in the DA universe.

7) Most of my Inquisitors will either be dwarves or qunari, I will have at least one human playthrough and a few elves, but dwarf and qunari are by far my favourite races in DA.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

It honestly doesn't bother me, although whether that's because romances in video games are in large part strictly heterosexual and I've simply become acclimatized to the idea I don't know. Strangely enough, in the case of DA:O, when I'm playing a male PC I only ever romance Morrigan, since I find it to be the most narratively rewarding romance.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character?

I'm fine with it, although it generally won't be my "canon" play-through, or even the first one. The one exception was Hawke in DA2, since the femHawke/Anders romance was the most narratively (there's that word again) fulfilling romance arc in the game for me.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Occasionally - Mass Effect was the prime example, since I didn't like either of the default Sheps, so my custom one ended up being non-white. I tried in DA:O, but the character (a Cousland) just ended up looking pretty weird, so I dropped it. Hopefully that'll improve in DA:I, so we'll see.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

If she is a romance option, then sure, as long as her personality doesn't make me want to throw her off the tallest tower in Skyhold. Objectively - yeah, she's attractive (although the waxiness of her skin in the promo pictures looks a bit off, but I assume that's a symptom of the lighting problems in the early Alpha) but my heart belongs to another. #RidetheBull

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

I almost never play a human character in RPGs if I have an option. That being said, my third play-through will be with a Male Human Warrior (after a Male Dalish Mage and a Female Qunari Mage).

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

3) I have made male and non binary PCs and will continue to do so in Inquisition, no biggie.
5) Well, I always try to make non white characters if in depth character creation is available. My canon Shepard, Warden, Hawke, Revan etc, are all asian women though.

6) Not a yt man, but big Viv stan and *circle prayer for bi vivmance*

7) I'll def get around to making female PCs for each of the four races. Non humans are cool, especially looking forward to playing as a qunari.

I generally prefer to play straight romances, but I don't mind playing gay romances either. I plan to romance Sera and Dorian at some point, and I may even pursue a gay (as opposed to straight) romance with Joesphine (and possibly Vivienne, if she is available). The rest of the romances will probably be heterosexual where possible, however.

I'm curious to see how Dorian's romance will work for me, since it will be lacking an 'anchor' - that is, a woman - which I can relate to.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

As a female, I play almost exclusively as female characters. I enjoy being able to play as my own gender and, what's more, being treated (practically) no different from male heroes. I do have plans to play a few male characters, and I am certainly not against playing them, but in my past experience I've found that I simply can't 'get into' those PCs as well as female PCs (barely got past the prologue in DA:O & DA2), so it may take a deliberate effort on my part.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

As a white person, I play almost exclusively as white characters. Usually, I just have so many different PC concepts that I never get round to playing half of the ones I want to. I do plan to make non-white PCs in Inquisition though, especially if the CC is as good as it sounds.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

As a white female, I think that Vivienne looks beautiful, and I won't have any issues romancing her (provided I enjoy her personality).

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

I plan to play a lot of Inquisitors, but I don't know if I'll have time to do them all. I will probably play mostly human and elf, with a few Qunari and dwarf playthroughs too. I don't have any issues playing as other races (in fact, my general preference is Elf).

I am also very happy that race selection was added to Inquisition.

Female asextual that can go either or depending on the person, so I'd guess that would be pansextual version of it. Just minus out the sex/physical stuff and you've got me. Oh uh, also Fillipino so that would be pacific islander/asian (gwad dangit I'm going to read overly complicated to some people since I can't place myself in an either or categories)

I distance myself heavily from the characters I make. They are not me, and they do not represent my personal opinions or feelings because I play these games for role play reasons. I have many different characters I create for games like these, and I try to play them to how they are as characters, following what sort of logic they would have in the situation etc. I do have two mains.

1+2) I am perfectly a okay with playing my characters in a way where they hold interest towards same sex or opposite sex situations. Infact most of the time I get surprised by a way a character is turning out where I thought they could have been straight/gay turn out to be something else entirely in a pleasant surprise sort of way.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

3) I enjoy making male characters much more than I do female characters. Generally, my go to character I always make as my 'main' will be a male. My male to female ratio on characters is generally more male oriented. I suppose I just appreciate the male anatomy more than I do the female (artistic view standpoint)

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

5) I am pacific islander, so I have a light toast to my skin tone. Generally I play a multitude of character skin tones, my main being a light toast as well simply because I do enjoy the look of the skin color, while there are other characters with a white skintone. So I make a large range of colors for my characters with no issue.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive?

6) I do not find Vivenne attractive, but it has nothing to do with her skintone or how she looks as a character. I do not like her for the personality that has been presented of her so far nor do I think I would ever find her attractive on the standpoint of I do not like her as a character. She is a beautiful well executed design though. It goes the same with the characters, it would depend entirely how they bounce off of her, but so far from my main and second I do not see them being close to interested in her.

I can think of a character that would want to romance her and I would be perfectly fine with it. So uh, I guess it would be I would be comfortable with it.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

7) I hate Bioware Human designs. They are my seriously least favorite design of humans I have played in a game in a long while. It is extremely easy for me to go to the other races and play those, elfs being my main go to for my main character while the quarni lady is my plan for my second character. Since the main character I like to play as is always and forever will be a thin mage character.

I dislike beef cake male characters, where they have thick muscular arms and tiny waists while the ladies have hourglass figures and skip along on their toes. Bioware games are guilty of their human males being beefy cakes and it leads me to rarely ever touching the human male characters despite my lean towards male characters.

Then since dwarves are beefy guys as well, they go to the bottom of the barrel for me. Even though the Qunari are rather large beef cakes as well, I have less of an issue with them because I find their lore way too interesting to skip over for visual issues (though it is why I am making a female version rather than a male Qunari)

Even then, when I play an RPG I generally will stay away from the humans unless I can't get an elf/pointy eared type.

Mostly heterosexual black female player here (I have girl crushes, but due to personality and voice. T&A do nothing for me). No, I prefer to play my gender when romancing NPCs. The only exception would be a M/M romance of which I'm particularly fond enough to play (hasn't happened yet, though I enjoyed watching Shepard/Kaidan, Shepard/Steve, and Fenris/Hawke on YouTube).

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

Not applicable.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Depends on the game. I don't mind in games like the Sims, racing games, or older RPGs when choice simply wasn't available (e.g. Zelda). But in more recent single-player RPGs, MMOs, and FPS I only play female characters.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Not applicable.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

Yep, exclusively. If a RPG doesn't allow me to create a black woman to play, then I neither purchase nor play the game. I do make black female characters in a variety of shades, though (high yellow to as dark as the game will allow me).

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivienne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

Not applicable. I'm answering anyway! Yes, I think she's gorgeous. And I loooooove that she has undeniably black features.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Most of my Inquisitors will indeed be human. I don't mind playing the occasional elf (especially if there is an elven LI), but I haven't been able to play a Dwarf for very long. I will probably roll a female Qunari at some point if her interactions with NPCs are sufficiently different from the human PC's.

With all that being said, where do you stand on such issues?

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

1) Doesn't apply to me.

2) I don't feel uncomfortable romancing a male as a female inquisitor, it is roleplaying after all but I'd rather not. Preference reasons, I'm a lesbian, I'm solely attracted to women therefore when I go the hetero route I chose a male, to romance a woman. i have done this in the past with DAO, I made one male warden simply to romance Morrigan. And with DAI, I will be doing this again in later playthroughs, to try out the romances that are unavailable to my female inquisitor. I prefer to play as a woman anyway, I only bother with a male for options that are restricted to my preferred route.

3) Again yes, it's the common theme in most games anyway, its so ingrained in my gaming history, but I prefer to play as a woman when I get the option to as I am one.

4) I have no problem making different raced characters, although I am white I have no issue trying out something that is not reflective of me. I have done this in the past anyway.

5)Doesn't apply to me

6) Ah no fair, don't you think women won't find her attractive too OP? If she is available to my fem Inquisitor, hell yes I would like a swing at her.

7)Defo not, humans are my 2nd choice, I adore elves, this race is my canon choice. I love elves, always have, there is something so mystical and other worldly about them, plus I love their history and culture and they are the closest race to humans but with that added fantasy factor.

1. I don't mind it, but, I don't plan to do that in Dragon Age: Inquisition (so I guess I actually do mind it then)... The one female character that I do plan to make in Dragon Age Inquisition will be romancing Sera. I guess I just get...more out of a relationship and sex when it's of the gender I'm attracted to in real life.

2. I'm not homosexual, so...

3. Yes. As a male I do feel comfortable playing a female character, and sometimes, I even prefer it.

4. I make characters of all races and nationalities.

5. I'm white.

6. I have no issue romancing Vivienne as a white male. Booty is booty, and tats are tats. I only wish that Vivienne didn't have lips that like...consume her entire face, or that, in all the screenshots we currently have of her, that she wasn't so...sweaty looking. She looks like she has oiled up her entire body for some reason or another.

7. I'm making my first Inquisitor an Elf, so there's that. I usually don't play as smaller races though (i.e. gnomes, dwarves) because...reasons. I have nothing against them, and I absolutely LOVE dwarven society, culture, and architecture, but, I just can't bring myself to play as one for long.

1) As a white heterosexual male gamer, I wouldn't say I'm uncomfortable with it, though it only happens on a minority of my playthoughs.  I have done it a few times for roleplaying purposes, but I definitely don't do it as much as the female romance options.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

3) I used to feel playing as female character was weird and strange.  I have since overcome that mental obstacle.  Actually, sometimes I find it preferable.  When I role-play a male character I often find myself falling into the trap of turning it into an avatar of myself rather than a character I've created.  I sometimes find it easier to maintain distance while roleplaying with female characters for some reason.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

4) Honestly, I never have.  In Dragon Age, I mostly try to create characters that wouldn't stand out overmuch from the ambient NPCs, so they tend to end up white.  I've only made white characters in Mass Effect too though, so I guess there's more too it than that.  I do tend to create characters that match my own racial identity. (And if I'm to be entirely honest, I create ones that I find physically attractive especially when creating females.  I find red hair, pale skin (And a few freckles) very attractive for example, so my "canon" femshep has red hair, pale skin, and freckles.  Sue me.)

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

6) I'd be comfortable with romancing Viviene, if it fit the character I was roleplaying.  I don't find her unattractive per say, but not nearly as attractive as say, Leliana (I've already mentioned my predilection towards pale skin.  It's not a racial thing, simply a matter of aesthetic preference.)

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

7) Probably not.  I choose non-human in every game where there is an option not too the most.  I enjoy putting myself in an outside perspective to humanity and exploring the cultural identity of this other.  I'd say it's very easy for me to play a non-human (Planning a femQunari first).  Granted, it helps that there generally isn't a huge difference between them once your in the game.  We'll see about that in Inquisition.

My PCs in this game are an aspect of me, and I'm straight. That means they'll pretty much all be females romancing males. I don't have a great degree of sexual fluidity, so yes, that means I don't find the idea of sex with people of my gender to be all that attractive. I'm sorry if that idea is somehow homophobic. At any rate, it means I won't be creating female characters who run the f/f romances. I have no interest in it. However, it also means I have no interest in making or playing male characters, either. Does that make me afraid of men?

No, it just means I play this type of game in a certain way, and the way I play doesn't lend itself to exploring certain story lines.

Now if the PC was preset, I might feel differently about it because then I'd be playing the game at a remove. I wouldn't be as invested in the character because it wouldn't be partially me in a sense. The attraction would be different, and I'd be going exclusively where I was taken. Even the characters I create in the stories I write are different because they are themselves, and they run the gamut.

As for looks, I'll try out all the options. I hope the dark skin options look better this time around.

And for race, I pick them based on aesthetic, and the dwarven aesthetic doesn't appeal to me. I'm not sure the qunari one will either.

1) Different perspectives, reversed positions.

2) Skip

3) I used to when I was younger, but not anymore. I think it was more or less the understanding of the mystery that eluded me for so long. What I came to understand later, I realized there wasn't any difference, well, at least on a rudimentary level.

I'm a straight male.

Sexual Orientation:
1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Yes.

I do.

I find her attractive, and I'd romance her.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

My first PC will be a male elf, and I think humans won't be the race of most of my Inquisitors. I find it easy to roleplay different races. Roleplaying a qunari member of the Qun might be more challenging, but we won't be one.

I'm a homosexual male and I like to play a homosexual male when given the chance. If there's a m/m available option, I will always choose it. I played ME2 and simply didn't choose a romance option. I'm (pale) white in real life, but I like picking the medium to darker-medium tan skin options. I don't really think of ethnicity in terms of real life while making a fantasy character, I suppose, but my characters would probably be somewhere around Dorian's tone on average. I play a human or elf, because those options are more attractive to me. I'm not especially interested in Qunari and I never play dwarf.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

1) I feel very comfortable playing a character who is not my gender, romancing a character who is my gender.  I do not feel comfortable engaging in same-gender romance, regardless of whether my character is male or female.

2) N/A

3) N/A

4) Yes, I like to make black characters sometimes.  I think that the features of black people are very attractive.

5) N/A

6) N/A

7) I generally prefer to not play human, if given the option.  My Warden was a city elf.  My Inquisitor will be qunari.  I just find it fun to explore the different cultures.  (Also, I really don't like the surname that the human Inquisitor will have, so I don't want to be called this throughout the game.)

While I wouldn't argue with the right of every person to play the game as they see fit, the fact that it seems like the majority of gamers are male, and many seem like they wouldn't consider romancing a male character even if they played female, makes me wonder if I will get fewer options as a heterosexual female.  It makes me ask if female characters exist predominantly to be romanced (mostly by male players), whereas male characters can have a wide range of non-romantic roles.  It doesn't seem to be much of a worry in Dragon Age.  In DA2, there was even more romanceable men than women!  Mass Effect wasn't so great in this respect.  It is literally possible for there to be no romantic possibilities for hetero FemShep in ME3, depending on world states.  Most of guys romanceable by women can die (indeed, one *has to* die), and the one who can't die cheats on her and leaves her!  The situation is not the same for any other gender/orientation combo.  Anyway, I'd always hope - and I think I have good reason to hope - that Dragon Age won't be like this (news is good so far).  At least neither DA nor ME are quite in the same situation as SW:TOR, where, last time I checked (which is admittedly a long time ago), there was literally not a single female companion out of the array of companions across eight classes who could't be romanced.  (Not counting a female-looking droid as female.)  Female companions seemed to have no reason to exist if they couldn't be romanced by males.  Thankfully, a very different writing team...
