I'm a straight white male gamer and I mostky try to create a character who looks close to myself.

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Nope, I just can't connect to a character that's not my own sex or who's gay.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

I tried several times in the past but I never finished a playthough with a female pc. Like I said I just find it hard to connect. I can't think like a woman would.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

I'm white and I generally create chars closte to my ethnicity.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

I'm not ethnocentric so I'd have no problem romancing Vivienne or any character with a different ethnicity. I think she's decent enough looking apart from the bald thing. Whether I'd effectively romance her or not would depend on whether she's just evil (which I doubt) or has a Morrigan like personality and depth.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

In Origins I always played human or elf. Not dwarves due to no romances without a very big height difference, but perhaps I'll play one who doesn't romance anyone. I'll probably enjoy Qunari.

1. N/A.

2. Yes.  In the same way I think it's easier for a person of color to play a white character, I think it's easier for a bisexual or homosexual person to play a straight character. In Western culture, everything around us normalizes heteronormativity and preferences it to a degree that non-straight people are taught/socialized to perform those "norms."  That having been said, my canon character in both DAO and DA2 are gay.  All others vary depending on the character I create and the outcomes I pursue for the purpose of game completion.

3. Yes.  I'm comfortable playing a female character, although such experiences are not my first choice in the same way the vast majority of my D&D PCs are male.  However, as a DM, I've crafted many female characters of varying sexualities and had fun performing them.  Strangely, I'd never do drag...

4.  N/A

5.  I am a black male and, as I wrote in my response to the second question, it's easy for me to play white characters.  That having been said, my canon characters in all games that allow it are black...  Unless I play an elf, in which case it's an elf with slightly greenish, "Caucasian" skin.

6. I love Vivienne's very obvious sub-Saharan African features.  I think it's a bold move and a welcome (and, frankly, overdue) move.  I will say that I found a lot of the initial comments that she is ugly to be mildly racist, and still do considering that so many people then got upset when they learned that Sera (with her "Caucasian" elven look) was not romanceable by straight males...  I think that challenging the Western European standards of beauty is a good thing.

7.  Since I'll start with a mage, I'll end up picking a male of any race with the stats best suited for the class.  In DAO, that was an elf.  However, I plan on experiencing many, if not all, race, gender, and sexuality options through multiple playthroughs.

That's interesting, I'd love to play a character with darker skin, but so far, the options haven't been as good. The dark skin tones haven't looked very .. authentic to me. The characters I wind up with look sort of fake. I think Vivienne is good, and I liked Isabela. But I find it hard re-create them in the CC.

And I'm "lily white."

They've said that was a problem with the previous engine, but that Frostbite is much better with darker skin tones.

With all that being said, where do you stand on such issues?

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

Player:Does not apply to me but I will say sure why not, they are their own person or character

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Player:Dont always like playing as male, once again if I have the choice then always female

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Player:Does not apply to me

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

Player:Yes as much as possible if have the choose, infact games that do give me that decision is a A+ followed by thier story, combat, etc. I also find non white/caucasians to be more appealing to me and attractive or interesting. Also tired of everything being about or focusing on whites in general >>

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

Player:Does not apply to me but Viv is hot

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Player:The majority for me will be Qunari and one sub reason why I am excited for DAI

Have no problems with it. I am going to experience every romance at least once, so that means I have to do that. It's the way I tend to play Bioware games.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

skip

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

I have no issues with this either. I tend to play a male first, mostly due to  it having become a sort of tradition for me, but sometimes I do things differently, like in Jade Empire.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Sure. I want to make my characters as distinct from each other as possible, so the visual aspect is the easiest way to do that.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

skip

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

If Viv is a romance, she's going to be the first one I do in Inquisition. Otherwise I'm leaning towards Dorian or Josephine.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Probably. The majority of my Wardens were human, but that was down to me enjoying their origin the most (It made Howe a better antagonist for one). I guess it could depend on wether or not I enjoy another races interactions more, but I like the noble background.

1) Not bothered at all, in fact it seems silly to me. If I ever decide to play as a guy (which is rare), I have no problems romancing a female character. Jack to this day remains one of my favourite LIs from a BioWare game.

2) N/A

3) I am perfectly comfortable playing as a guy, but I find it more boring than if I played as a girl. I'll usually make a dude to experience the other LIs that are locked to gender. It's not my first choice.

4) N/A.

5) Native, though 80% of my characters look white. Depending on how awesome the character creator is I will make different races.

6) N/A but I would have no trouble having my dude inquisitor bang Vivienne. She looks great.

7) I always base my character's race as what looks the most attractive to me, so I usually go with Human. If I can make a great looking qunari/elf I'll play one, but never a dwarf.

I think your explanation is really well thought out and I can completely understand being burnt out playing generic white guys in games. I play a woman in games whenever I can, I don't consider that sexist just being able to play as a character that might vaguely represent me.

And now for my answers:

1 & 2

I'm bisexual so I never have an issue romancing someone of the same gender as me. As I preference though I do tend to romance women, so most of my romances are f/f. With the exception of my Morrigan & Garrus romances.

That being said Dorian and his wonderful mustache have encouraged me to try a m/m romance for the first time and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

3

I don't think you'll find many female gamers who are uncomfortable playing as male characters. If they were they wouldn't be able to play many games.

I'm certainly not though my preference is to play as a woman if I can.

4

When I create a character, I tend to have a certain look in mind, sometimes I create one to resemble me as much as possible, sometimes I want to create one that looks the complete opposite of me. I've created characters with many different skin tones and looks.

6

I can only hope that one of my Inquisitors will be able to romance Vivienne, I think she is beautiful. She is exactly how I've always pictured Queen Nefertiti.

7

I plan on creating one Inquisitor of each race for my first 5 playthroughs, after that I'll pick my favourite two or three and create more of them. I did the same in DA:O, played through the game with each race and then all my other playthroughs where either Human or Dalish, as they were my favourite.

Oh I might as well

1. I see no problem at all. The way I see it a Voiced Protagonist is just like the main character in a movie. And games with Voiced Protagonist are just interactive movies.

2. SKIPPED

3. Male here, and yes feel very comfortable playing female characters. Just polygons and ones and zeros at the end of the day. Do you feel uncomfortable when consuming media in any other form when it is from the prospective of a gender that isn't your own? I read books where the main character is female and often narrated by a female, I watch films  and shows where the main characters are female. I doesn't weird me out. It's all stories in the end.

4. White, well Celtic, so more magnolia than anything else. More often than not, if creating a human, I'll try and make a Scotsman. There's never enough of us in media, so I have to make my own. But then it depends on the story, the plot and the setting. And if the Character is VA'ed or not. You don't want to make a large rugged looking heroic black man for him to then be voiced by a whiny american voice that leaves you question if it's hit puberty yet. You don't have a man look like Idris Elba to be then voice by Woody Allen.
But then I don't play humans often, if given the chance.

5. SKIPPED

6. No, I won't be comfortable romancing Vivenne, but that has nothing to do with her race or her looks and everything to do with that so far all I know of her, her personality is being equal to a 12 hour stint with diarrhea. But she is not alone in that regard. Sera is also looking to be flushed out an airlock (Sera also has the added sin of having that English Voice I'd never get tired of kicking).
I never romanced Ash in ME, or Liara (who in my mind is the most annoy character in any game, ever (yes even more than 'Hey Listen')), or Miranda because I couldn't stand their personalties. And while I liked Jack, I would never go near that sexually with a 10 foot poll. Now Traynor she was more my kind of girl. but then I'm a sucker for girls with South Asian heritage.

But while we're on the subject of representation, why are there not more South Asian people in media, epically american media?

7. I'm an Orc play. I play orc's. So far I have only two characters planed, Olla and October, and both are Qunari mages. I always play the Orc equivalent race in any given fantasy/sci-fi setting. And Qunari, for me, seems to hit the right mess between Orc and Draenei (another race I love). I dislike playing as elf's mostly because if I wanted to be a poncy english man, I'd move down over the border. Real men have bears, or at least the ability to grow one...
I've never overly like the idea of playing a dwarf, and yet I have no problem with playing a halfling or a gnome. When it comes to fantasy races/Sci-fi races I thing they embody ideals and memes we aspire to rather than directly relate too; we pick races that closely relate to what people we'd rather wish to be, rather who we are.
But that's just my take on it.

Yes. I do this routinely.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Again, yes. I'm roleplaying a character. That character is not me. I don't see why any of these would ever be an issue.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

If the engine supports it, I will sometimes play characters with A south Asian colouring. My first character in SWG was an Indian woman. I tried to play a male Indian Shepard, as well (I did not succeed, as I was unable to play any male Shepard due to the voice acting).

But I do insist on a smooth skin tone. I don't like a mottled look. I'll go so far as to mod NPCs to eliminate it. Skyrim was a particularly bad offender on this one. But many games seem to struggle to render darker skin tones, so as they improve I imagine I'll play darker skinned characters more often.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

By strong African features, you mean strong west African features, yes?

I don't personally find Vivienne attractive, but I don't see why none of my characters can't.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf (and now Qunari)?

I don't generally like elves, though my favourite Warden was an elf. I tend to start every game with a human mage, but that's usually the only human I play. I do have a female dwarf and male Qunari planned.

1) and 2) i'm neither heterosexual nor homosexual, so i don't really mind either of these. most of my characters however are women who romance whichever LI appeals to me, male or female. i might have to make a male inquisitor eventually just so i can romance cassandra

3) i'm a female and yes i feel fine playing a male character, in both customizable protagonist games and set protagonist games. sometimes i like playing as one if he's attractive, like default male shepard. but in a game with playable elves like dragon age, i'll almost always choose to be a female elf. in games like mass effect and dragon age 2 where the pc had to be a human, my first play-through was a male...

4) yes, when i am not self-inserting or using default appearances, i like to create a range of character that all look different and unique, including skin colour

6) i'm not a male, but i find vivienne to be physically attractive. her personality on the other hand isn't really my type (and the "ortolan bunting" thing makes me wanna cry every time i think about it! ugh!) but she is very beautiful

7) very few of my inquisitors will be human. i rarely finish a human playthrough. i like playing female elves and my self insert is a female elf mage. i don't really play dwarves, and i don't know if i will try out a qunari. mainly i just like to play elves

The sex/romance stuff is mostly meaningless to me. I try and figure out what the "happy path" romance is. Usually not hard and roll with that first game out. Morrigan, for example, was not a required romance but it felt like the game was built to have that be the most compelling version of the romances.

I played an elf first time out in DAO but likely won't be doing that again. The games simply don't react well enough to other races. The origins in DAO did a great job of it but then again they were custom built to do so after that other than a few throwaway lines it didn't matter for 99% of the game. I found that lack of reaction the a most grievous sin of DAO so ever since that first play I've been all human all the time.

Much like species (for lack of a better term to describe elves, dwarves and humans) ethnicity doesn't matter in the game so I tend to stick with whatever the "default" look in the game is. Ferelden is very white so I tend to work that way. If I was in a setting where (assuming the same non-interactivity about race) the default look was Asian or African I'd roll that way.

2) N/A

3) Already answered in the first, I'll play anyone and romance anyone.  I actually prefer to play females in games that let me.  Partly because I like content as foreign to my real-world experience as possible, and partly because I just love badass women.

7. Unlikely.  Perhaps if I play first with a human inquisitor and dislike the game enough that I don't play anyone else.

Well, to answer most of your questions, whenever I'm given choice I tend to gravitate towards different and new experiences. That was always the draw in RPGs for me, from even my tabletop beginnings: the ability to roleplay someone in a controlled environment. Genders, professions, quirks, alignments and whatever else, all ripe for exploration and discovery, whatever I identify myself with does not matter, usually, bias be damned!

Personal Identity Disclaimer: I am a 23 year old gay white male.

1.) I am gay, so NA.

2.) No. I play with gender and sexuality fairly freely in the game since I don't see the characters as an avatar of me, though they are a reflection of me in many ways. I have the hardest time romancing a female character as a male PC, though.

3.) Yes, totally comfortable. I play more female characters than male ones, generally speaking.

4.) I do (like in Mass Effect), but I haven't in DA since they seem to look so strange. I will admit I tend to create more white characters, probably because it's what I know and identify as myself. But I would like to create at least one (if not more) non-white characters in DAI now that they look so much more realistic.

5.) I'm white, so NA.

6.) I'm totally comfortable, and I do find her attractive. I don't know if I actually will romance her if possible - haven't gotten to know her yet - but denying romance on the basis of race seems...iffy at best to me.

7.) Hard to say. I'm stoked to play an elf, myself, but I'll likely play humans too. Might try Qunari eventually. I only play mages, though, so dwarves are out (and I've never been particularly interested in dwarves anyway).

1. Yes. I don't have a problem romancing any character.

2. Skip

3. I'm a female. Yes I can play a male character and enjoy it just as much as playing a female.

4. Yes. I create a lot of characters. I think most of them are white, but I do make characters who aren't white.

5. Skip

6. Yes I think Viv is very pretty, and if she is an LI one or more of my characters will be romancing her. I am a little worried about her personality, but I think once I get to know her better I'll end up liking her even more.

7. Hard to say. In DAO most of my characters were either an elf or human. In DAI I plan on playing as Qunari, Elf, and Human. I don't know why, but I don't enjoy playing as a dwarf. I will still try it in DAI to see if I like it this time.

I am male and gay and I've never played a character that romances in a hetero way. I do see the character as an extension of me (a cooler one) and so I want it to be like me. I've never played even a female. in DA, I played an elf for the origin story only. After that it was back to my male human. Even in playthroughs I use the same character. I will do a different name and make different choices in action and conversations, but it is always the same. In ME, my shep was always the male one, white, the default (I like that look and voice a lot!). He was asexual until ME3. (He had a lot of built up energy to expel in that scene before the end) If the character has no sexuality (Bioshock, Last of Us, Super Mario Galaxy) then I'm fine playing it that way, but IF I can introduce a little bit more of myself into the character, then all the better. I tend to stay my own skin color. On a side note, it is interesting to read the differences: Some of us identify with the character, and some of us do not. So it makes sense that some people feel uncomfortable with romancing a gender they wouldn't in real life ( a girl: ewww!) :)

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

I have no problem playing a male who romances another male or a female, if I like the characters and it's not DA2.  My 3 male wardens romanced  Zev, Leliana and Morrigan.  I had many many female wardens but always play enough males to do the romance options.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

NA

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

My husband only plays male characters.  I play both.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

Yes, including elf.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

NA

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

NA but as a female - Will depend on her personality.  I didn't romance Isabela in DA2 because I don't really like her that much.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Elf no problem,  human no problem.  Dwarf and Qunari I'll have to wait and see.  I didn't do the Dwarf background in DAO, though I may someday try it.

Black bisexual (with a preference toward men) male here.

1. I have no problem with it. If romance happens to advance the plot somehow, I will generally lean in that direction. Other than that who I romance depending on my gender will completely depend on myself. For instance my warden in DA:O was female because I felt like building a relationship with Alistair and seeing progress until my warden made the fateful decision to have him marry Anora.

2. I am generally more comfortable with same-sex romance. Unless I'm "feeling a certain way", a male homosexual relationship will be my default, depending on the characters.

3. I feel incredibly comfortable if not more comfortable playing a female character. I have no clue why, to be honest. My canon warden (Serylda) and Hawke (Cassana) are both female.

4.  N/A

5. Not really. It all depends on the setting of the story. In general, all my characters have been white in all the DA games as the protagonist has hailed from Ferelden, a country where the majority of people are fair-skinned (there are some exceptions, though).  I plan to have my DAI inquisitor be olive skinned, since the Free Marches appears to be more varied when it comes to ethnicity and skin colour (Sebastian's olive-coloured skin) in general.

6. I find Vivienne to be absolutely gorgeous (YAAAAAAAAS QUEEN). I don't expect her to be a potential love interest, but I probably will romance her in the future if she turns out to be.

7. The majority of them? Perhaps not. I'm predicting that they will make up at the most half of my playthroughs (probably less) and all other races will probably take up the rest. I have never played a dwarf in DAO before, though I just might in the future (Dwarf female noble).

22 year old Black female.

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Yep. I have a slight preference for m/m but I'm fine doing f/f as well.

2) As a homosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is your sex, romance a NPC who is of opposite sex?

n/a

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Female and yes I can play male PCs just fine. My wardens are primarily females while my Hawkes were all males.

4) If you are white, do you ever create characters that out right do not look "white" but rather black, asian, hispanic, or multi-racial? Or do you just stick with white?

N/A

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

Usually if the CC isn't garbage when it comes to darker colors like the DA series was I do. Though my females tend to be the ones I make my skin color. My males tend to be white or lighter toned.

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

N/A

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Probably. I've got a Qunari female planned but that really depends on how pretty I can make her look :P

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex? Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Yes, I'm comfortable with that.

3)  As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Comfortable, yes. Interested, rarely. I'm female, and the decision of whether or not to play again as a male character is usually made after I have completed the game at least once as a female. The gameworld itself needs to have sparked something in my imagination that suggests that playing a male character might reveal new facets of the game.

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

I create a range of appearances, based on a combination of the particularities of the character generation system and the game's lore, if any exists. For example, I almost always play Redguards or Bosmer in ES titles, because I love their lore, but when Oblivion came out, I played neither, because the character generation in that game didn't do those races justice (well, it didn't do any of the races justice, but that's another quibble entirely.) I do sometimes create characters who are phenotypically similar to me as someone who is Mexican and Native American, but I don't consider them "matching my racial identity."

6)Do you find Vivienne attractive?

Yes, she is regal and imposing. I think her look is, in all ways, "glamorous."

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

In Dragon Age, I prefer to play humans and dwarves, in no particular order. Qunari and elves, I am pretty indifferent to, if not actively bored by. That impression may change, as more details of the game emerge. I hope it does, for the sake of replay value.

Well, as a straight black gamer I don't see the harm in answering these.

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

Yes

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

Yes

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

No. I have like 1 black person in Mass Effect for example. I don't really bother with the CC much.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

I'm planning 2 humans, 2 elves, 2 dwarfs, and 2 Kossith. In general I've never found it hard to play as a fictional race in a video game.

1) I'm perfectly comfortable with my own sexuality, so I have no uncomfortable feelings with having a female or male PC of mine pursue a male romance. Honestly, I've never romanced a male NPC as a male PC, but that doesn't mean I'm opposed/against it.

2) Question does not apply to me, I am not a homosexual player.

3) As a male player, I have no problem playing a female PC. In fact, I enjoy experiencing the different perspective. One thing about these role playing games that I adore is the multiple perspectives in which we can experience them.

4) I am white, and the skin of my PC's depends. I envision some of my PC's with darker skin than others, so I'll apply it when I feel it's fitting. My main PC, however, who is most akin to myself, is always white.

5) Question doesn't apply to me.

6) I am more than comfortable romancing Vivienne, I'm excited to in fact. And yes, I find her a very attractive character. I do feel like her new blue eyes look out of place, however. I enjoyed her big brown ones more. That's not my decision, though.

7) I am planning 11 Inquisition playthroughs: 3 Humans, 4 Elves, 2 Dwarves, 2 Qunari. As you can see, most of my Inquisitors are fairly balanced in terms of human-to-non human ratios. It is very easy to play non-human players, like I said I really enjoy the different perspectives.

Very interesting answers in this thread.

1) As a heterosexual player, do you feel comfortable having your PC who is not your sex, romance a NPC who is your sex. Like me as a male playing as a female PC who romances a male NPC. Or a heterosexual female who plays as a male PC, but romances a female NPC.

3) As a male, do you feel comfortable playing as a female character? As a female, do you feel comfortable playing as a male character?

5) If you are not white, do you normally try to create characters who match your racial identity? Or do you create a range of races?

6) Will you be comfortable romancing Vivenne if you are a white male? Do you even find Vivienne attractive? I do and I like how Bioware decided to create a black female with strong African features instead of the typical European looking female coated in brown skin.

7) Will the majority of your Inquisitors be human? How hard or easy is it to play as an Elf or Dwarf  (and now Qunari)?

Disclaimer: straight, black (technically mixed) female

1. I have yet to romance a female LI as a male. It doesn't make me uncomfortable, but I tend to value the female friendships very highly (particularly with Morrigan and Isabela). A romance wouldn't have the same emotional connection for me. If I'm curious there's always YouTube.

3. Most of the games I play have a male PC so I guess I'm so used to it that it doesn't bother me (depending on the game).

5. Always. There are so few protagonists who look like me that when given the option I always make my PC a brown-skinned female (with varying hair and facial features). The problems with darker skin tones in DAO and DA2 didn't bother me as much as the hair options. They were hideous. I'm hoping and praying that DAI has improved that part of the CC. Curls, braids or dreads would be wonderful. They would probably be a b!tch to render, but I'm tired of "silky straight hair" or nothing.

6. Not a white male, but i want to answer anyway  :D . I think Vivienne is possibly the most beautiful video game character I've ever seen. Black female characters in games are so rare, especially those with her kind of unambiguous blackness, and I think the designers did a wonderful job. I hope she's a LI and doesn't fall victim to the "strong black woman who don't need no man" trope (as unintentional as it may be on Bioware's part).

7. I only play as a human (usually mage) or an elf (City Elf specifically) because I relate to them both physically and culturally more than anyone else. I have never played as a dwarf since they don't appeal to me. I love Varric, Dagna and Sigrun, but I have no desire to play as a dwarf myself. The only way I'd play as a dwarf PC is if Varric turns out to be a LI gated towards dwarves. I loved the Qunari in DA2. I'm very curious as to what it will be like to play as a Qunquisitor. I find their culture very interesting (plus dem horns).
