I wish there was some other benefit to letting her die, other than 'Oh I RP a Shepard that does whatever it takes! Even though it doesn't really take this (her dying, to get what is needed anyway)!'

Talking to one of your squadmates at the end of the final mission rather than to Ann over vid-comm is a benefit.

I guess it works okayish enough if you're a player/character who just absolutely hates researching anything. But that looks more FailShep than RenegadeShep, so I don't like this scene much.

Yeah, I dunno... I mean, it's one of three planets in the system. If it was a case of, "the more often you choose wrong, the greater possibility of the reapers beating you to Leviathan." I could see wanting to narrow it down to the exact planet... but, given how much time shep and crew already spend scanning planets to gather resources, and there's no do-or-die pressure to find Leviathan, what's (possibly) three more scans? *shrug*

What's funny is that EDI picks out one planet from each of the three systems that are now open for exploration within the Sigurd's Cradle.

Fair enough, just seems like a waste when finding out the system Leviathan is in, is enough. Ann doesn't have to die for that

She doesn't.  There's one trigger in there before she dies and after James and EDI say we've got enough.  It's this play-through:

Largely depends on how you look at her prognosis, I suppose. She's probably got some pretty severe internal injury there.

But yeah, she likely might not physically die, though she does "die" in the perspective of the player if you lose her as an asset.

Three systems, that's what I meant. Thank you.

Okay so... after not raising the shield the first time, but doing it the second time, do you still have to find the one of three systems 2181 Despoina is in? The one time I didn't raise the shield right away, I went all the way until she died, so I dunno how much the search gets narrowed.

It's a straightforward tier: no interrupts leaves all three systems open, one interrupt narrows down to two systems, both interrupts narrow down to the correct system.

Bit of meta-gaming here, but not much of a difference in the narrowing of the search unless she dies. So, why let her suffer.

Wait, when does it say she dies? I always took it as just hospitalisation. Of course in that event she dies when the reapers finally remember they are supposed to capture the citadel and shut off the relay network thus winning, so ho hum.

Ann doesn't die, she just becomes incapacitated like that dude who kills her dad.

actually he ended up in a "vegetative state - doctors believe it's permanent", which is equal to death as far as I'm concerned. which is why I'm pro-euthanasia but that's a different story.

I never had her end up incapacitated. Not much point when you basically have enough to spend little time searching 2-3 systems.

Yeah, true. Maybe not like that guy, but she's incapacitated enough to basically miss out the rest of the war.

Role-playing. Accurately representing how far each of my Shepards is willing to go to obtain the data and expedite the search for a crucial weapon against the Reapers. Also, as HYR indicated, you get to view different (subtle) game content if you let the connection linger.

In the context of the game, you'd have to spend several days exploring each star system and viable planet. You're not necessarily pressed for time (not more than you are in the game already technically), but you don't want to spend a huge amount of time waiting chasing a red herring in each system.

I like the tension that is caused between Shepard and James when James realizes just how far my Shepard is willing to go to get the information he needs, to the point where he's more than willing to let Ann die if it gets him to Leviathan. I usually raise the shield in time to keep from crippling her, but I dislike how it's portrayed, where Shepard orders James to activate the shield (especially after one or two interrupts telling him not too.) I'd have preferred if James (since he's going on about stopping it) acted on his own, against Shepard's wishes. It would be an interesting point of contention between the two. I RP that that's a point where James, who has that hero worship towards Shepard to an extent, realizes that Shepard isn't the purely good noble man that alliance propaganda has him made out to be (even after getting to know him after guarding him for 6 months and probably aware of his reputation for results-at-all-costs), and that Shepard is willing to throw innocent lives under the bus to meet his agenda.

Too bad you couldn't use a squadmate in place of Ann to get Leviathan's location.

Shep: All right, T'Soni, front and center. You're up.

Liara: B-but...

Shep: Let's go, doc. Time's a-wastin'

What is really funny here is "Leviathan coordinates sent to the Normandy."

Uh, the Normandy is right there, writers. Hilariously bad writing.

And stupid idiot Leviathans. "There is no war. Only the harvest."

Bioware writers: We wrote a terrible ending, now we'd better justify it by writing stupid idiot cuttlefish who created these things.

I don't think confirming that the coordinates have been logged on the Normandy's galaxy map, which isn't in the room with them, constitutes "hilariously bad writing".

Gah, now you have me tempted to play entirely out of character just to find out what my squaddies would say... I hope you're happy! :P

As much as I would like to have that happen, it would most likely be Vega since he's  in the lab at the time

Nah, it's easy. Just call Liara up and tell her that Ann's father had done a lot of research into a possible prothean connection to the Leviathan. She'll be at the lab before Vega can ready that husk head for shipment back to the Normandy.

I like that. She does have a weakness for anything related to the Protheans
