EDIT: This is NOT the Faunts. This is a band called Light.Sweet.Crude, who are claiming that they submitted a song (inspired by M4 Part II) to Bioware for review as the credits music of the next Mass Effect game. There is only the band's words to go on, as Bioware is not saying anything so far.

From their Facebook:

"Big news of the day:
Mass Effect is a huge Triple-A Sci-Fi video game. The song below is by the Faunts. It was chosen for the ending credits of the original video game. Pretty cool tune, yes?
Well, we are pleased to announce that one of our songs has officially been submitted for review by Bioware/EA (the developers) as a candidate for the upcoming 4th game's end credits!!!
As such, we will be releasing the song for your listening pleasure within the next few days : ) So incredibly psyched right now!"

"The song we've been writing for submission into the Mass Effect franchise is finally out! Listen and get your free download!!!"

From Youtube (February):

"One of the lead composers of ME just wrote us.  Sam Hullick; he's pushing it to the developers!!!"

The lyrics:

And it was all that i could do
I only did what i had to
It wasn't like we had a choice
Hear the crowd, feel the noise

And as you take your final breath
you're staring back at me
like your not impressed
from what you bleed to believe

And it's the science of our hearts
It's been with us from the start
The strong will provide
while the weak won't survive

Like spiders in a jar
with a hole poked at the top
If we want a fighting shot
turn our science into art

Beautiful still
behind your eyes

We become one another
I'm finding myself stuck in this moment forever
I've awakened a side of me (i don't want to know...)
(...I don't want to know) the ground beneath my feet

For the powers above us,
We're just the pieces in the game
I forget my sins as the crowd
starts calling my name

And it's the science of our hearts
It's been with us from the start
The strong will provide
while the weak wont survive

Like spiders in a jar
with a hole poked at the top
If we want a fighting shot
turn our science into art

Beautiful Still
behind your eyes
(The) Beautiful still
in killing ties

Fantastic. Very, very good and appropriate lyrics, as far as I see it.

There is the possibility that this is a hoax, but so far, I doubt it.

UPDATE JULY 25:

74eb7a.jpg

"this was pretty early on in the process. The news made our day. We've been sticking to phone calls since. If we get more in writing like contracts, I'll image capture it. Sam Hullick found us through a publication company we work with. As you know, he's one of the head composers for all three games. He became a huge fan of the track, reached out, and is now pushing it to the developers. We received a call saying it was a hit with the developers AND the other head composer; J. Wall, saying casually "it's definitely a finalist". Sadly as that was over the phone; I can't image capture that. Again, whatever writing comes in next will get image captured. Track available at www.litesweetcrude.bandcamp.com"

I can dig it, but the game had better do well, since the line "turn our science into art" is embarrassingly easy to exploit.

I said it should be a Faunts track. It is a Faunts track. No imagination required.

ME3's credits track is one I cannot stand. I rush to stop it as soon as I can. just because it's Faunts doesn't make it perfect. "Suicide Mission" for ME2 is perfect. M4-pt2 in ME1 seemed like an one-hit wonder.

this one, I'd give it a miss. has flashes of potential, but the majority of it is below average.

M4 parts 1 and 2 are honestly the only Faunts pieces I've yet come across that I genuinely like.

Sort of like Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" part 1.

EDIT: In fairness, though, I can't say ME3's credit theme is bad so much as everything around the ending is tainted. Now, the cabin music in ME3? That I can't stand - I actually installed a mod to restore the cabin music from ME2.

you barely spend any time in the cabin anyway. the Citadel party music on the other hand.......figured out how to replace that yet?

"It shouldn't be anything but The Faunts..." in your earlier post is wording that, to me, translated to "I don't want this - I want the Faunts band", but then you said "It is a Faunts track", which it isn't (it just sounds like Faunts, kind of).

At least, I wish you were clearer in your writing. Your first message implied one thing and your second seemed to imply another. :S

If this ends up being the credits music, I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware uses a 2nd track to play after it while credits roll. It seems rather short compared to M4.

The lyrics are kind of cringe worthy but if it's just credits music, it doesn't bother me much.

The closing credits are supposed to make me want to hang on for another five to ten minutes while mentally shaking my butt to the beat and scanning the list for funny or cool looking last names ("guess the gender", "guess the nationality", "spot the cheesy nickname", and "do any consecutive initial letters form a word" are optional activities as well). The kinda-sorta Gene-Loves-Jezebel-ish vocal tracks used in the past, as well as this one here, however, are only telling me "Please try not to press the PS button with your nose while nodding off to the unobtrusive, kinda formulaic song playing in the background." I don't wish to sound overly critical because, hey, I'll be happy with whatever they throw at me... provided it's not "Let the Bodies hit the Floor".

I think we'll need to learn more about the game itself before coming to any real conclusions (I know my OP comments were conclusive sounding, but that isn't how my actual opinion is). I'm glad to see most here seem to understand that! We don't even have the damn title yet -_-. A title, protagonist info, plot summary, initial visual art.. this might paint a better picture for us.

If you're including M4 Part 2, your opinion is invalid.

Just kidding. Your opinion is very valid :)

What's eyeroll worthy? :)

(But really, I'd be with you there, except even Citadel DLC imo intentionally nodded towards the 'art' concept)

The spiders line is actually what rubs me wrong (as a song in general), but that whole verse is inviting ire.

The rest of it is fine, I guess, and could be kinda-sorta interesting in context of the game.  The first minute or so is enjoyable enough, which is all most people will end up hearing from the creds anyway.

It does have the right vibe for it.  No doubt influenced by M4 Pt. II.  Having not seen the game I don't know how this would fit.  It's kind of like packing for a trip but you don't know where you're going.

Maybe your OP was confusingly worded. I got the impression from the OP that it was a Faunts song. If it isn't, then I take back what I said. It shouldn't be the end credits song. I do find the lyrics pretty damn weak, if not cringe-worthy.

The spiders bit makes sense to me, even though though didn't on first hearing.

The spiders instinctually create webbing, often to trap prey. Nothing particularly smart about it, but they do it. Its a result of 'natural evolution'.

External elements, say humans doing experiments, keeping insect bodies preserved, trap the spiders in the jar, with just enough air to keep them alive. Keep too many in the jar and they'll eat each other. Keep only one in it and you'll need to feed it. Anyway, its a controlled environment.

So how does the spider escape? By creating enough webbing to get out. There's nothing especially artistic about creating webbing. Its in fact kinda gross. But its needed in order to reach those air holes and manage a way out.

The result is what we often see in webbing - an artistry in the patterns that webs create. What was simply more.. I dunno, clinical?, can now be interpreted as a more inspirational visual and literary tale, told in painting and poetry and more. That may sound silly to some, but its really where we get a lot of our mythology and symbolism. What was just the simple function of a pest eating prey, eventually becomes something that may encourage humans to do, well, anything. Learn, love, grow, whatever. The experiment of biology, becomes art for everything.

Overall, I'm getting a both more haunting, yet also optimistic tone from Science compared to M4 Part II. No more fighting and bleeding out alone. Time to provide and protect, to the crowd's cheers.

No. It was a quote from the band's Facebook post, where they mentioned the Faunts, and it was pretty clearly worded that way, imo.

And yeah I can understand others seeing the lyrics as weak! At least, they don't have weight and context to them yet - but they could just be bad, period, and I'm more positive about them than I should be :)

This is, of course, assuming that this band somehow has access to MEWhatever's plot components.

The spider metaphor doesn't not make sense or anything.  It's just silly in conjunction with the rest of the song, and in context of a science-fiction credit wrap.
