I want to thank the devs that have come by and talked to us.  You didn't have to brave some of this anger, but I really appreciate it.   For one, I just think that too many people are hot, crabby and anxious.  Not to mention being more than a bit prone to hyperbole.  <_<

I'm glad I didn't pre-order the Inquisitor Edition yet, but otherwise this doesn't bother me all that much.  Last time the game was delayed, we got broader areas, more romances, a romance no longer race-gated, and more races to play.  Another 5 weeks to clean it up sounds like a great idea.

For my experience, most of the problem with DA2 was simply that it didn't get the time it needed.  MotA and Legacy show glimpses of what the game could have been, but that was rushed out the door.  While this game has had a lot more development time, I'm perfectly happy to wait until November.  If that means I don't have to do things such as uninstall a patch to get two different DLCs to work (glares at Legacy and Exiled Prince,) then I'm content.

However, I still have a request for you guys to put in the Ghost Pants bug for Cole in some sort of easter egg or DLC.  This I've got to see.

If the reason the game was delayed was the same as Mass Effect 3's was (in order to shoehorn in multiplayer), I am not going to be pleased.

They more than likely aren't shoehorning it in and you are very likely to not be pleased too. =P

I mentioned it on Twitter, but I'll mention it again here.

A month of pre-ship bugfixing/polish time is equivalent to a year/year and a half or more after ship.

It sucks to have to wait, I know. I'd love to have a normal weekend again, and this means it'll be an extra month before that happens, but I'd rather make sure that this game is the best game we can possibly deliver.

oh? could you please elaborate on that? rather interested in how that would work. why exactly would release screw up bug fixing by up to a year and a half?. you would use the same distribution channels as you did for getting the game to the consumers, would you not? (ie the internet[the only people affected would be those without internet...in which a year or more would be irrelevant as they never would be able to get the patch either way])

Bioware shoehorns very well if ME3 mp was shoehorned...

Someone should give them an award or something.

You want to talk shoehorned multiplayer go look at Tomb Raider

GOTY editions are becoming rarer and rarer these days.

i see them all the time. uit's the final huzza for a game once everything has been released for it

it's an effective marketing strategy that just about every major game uses once it's "complete"

Before the game goes to Microsoft and Sony, we can basically do whatever we want with it (though we still need to pass their certification process).  Patching involves a much more thorough process including (but not limited to) things like size restrictions, what things are allowed to be changed, as well as a limit on the total number of patches that can actually be deployed (although Sony doesn't do this, they just charge us for the bandwidth).

I can't speak for the specifics of the timelines John detailed, but pre-release we have more flexibility because there's no such thing as a baseline release that we need to strongly adhere to.  So, for example, if we notice a bug in the save game system and we need to change it which will invalidate all of the older saves, we can do that.  Sony and Microsoft aren't as keen on letting us do that to a shipped game because it'll only (rightly) make people very unhappy.  So now we're engineering creative workarounds and basically trying to find a way to remotely deploy fixes that otherwise would have just been obliterated (though still in source control) in the office.

Note that "bug in the save game system" is pretty nebulous, but with as much game data as we have changes that come to it are always a risk for saved games since the data it was saving may no longer be valid in any way.

BioWare, if you want to shoehorn in MP, feel free to take three months instead of one. I played ME MP for a year; it's worth it.

Bummer

You know, I think with having to wait around for a whole extra 13 months now before getting our paws on the game they REALLY need to give us something juicy to gossip about for the extra month.

Just a thought but maybe they could spill ALL the companion romance details!

Worth a try.   ;)

Waaaaay back in this thread, someone asked who the heck takes vacation time 70 days in advance. My friend works as a hospital pharmacist on the graveyard shift. The last hospital she worked at required that vacation requests had to be put in one year in advance. If you applied after the cutoff, too bad. The hospital she works at now is much less strict - vacation requests only have to be put in six months in advance. If your shift is scheduled on a holiday, however, you are required to work.

To be on topic, the delay time is a bit disappointing, but not unexpected. I'll manage to survive for an extra 1.5 months or so.

By the way, a giant thanks to the devs coming in here and chatting with us. :)

You know, if they delay it just a little further back, it can be released after the Grey Cup and I won't have to worry about DAI cutting into Roughrider football. :)

It's only 9:25pm here.  Which if you are familiar with my forum habits, I'll likely still be off and on this board over the next 6 hours <.<

The bandwidth isn't hyper expensive but it can add up. I believe the cost is about 16 cents per gb.

Also to speculate potentially more on John's comment, after you launch a project a good amount of the team moves off, so whereas you had a few hundred people before ship that number will decrease meaning it is harder to get work done quicker.

There is also some things you can do before you ship, if you need to make a change that changes the way the entire game is built then it is easy to do in development, as you just suck it up and do it. But you cant do that when you ship, could you imagine if you had to download a 10gb patch that only changes 1 minor thing? (it has been done before in the industry). This means that you have to try and find some less ideal alternative which may require a lot more testing and have weird effects that you never even thought of.

OOOO thanks for reminding me about launch day, I completely forgot that is a thing...

Last time I went around get fan autographs, it was a really good ice breaker since a lot of people were afraid to talk to me otherwise... Then there was the time I signed a guys chest, don't worry Mark Meer did it later as well.

My reaction when I first read the news:

rosemarys-baby.gif

But then I realized it was only 6 more weeks. Kind of like waiting for Spring after Groundhog's Day. It goes by quickly and if it means a better game ships, I'm in full support.
