Lol, everyone has a right to an opinion, and Duke Nukem had 15 years in development

Well, no one really has an informed opinion at this point. We're all just speculating. And if we're going to use previous games from all different developers as precedence, we're going to find examples of releases that were delayed and turned out bad, delayed and turned out good, on time and turned out bad, and on time and turned out good. I'd argue that the most relevant example is not Duke Nukem 4, but Battlefield 4 (same Engine, same Publisher with a history of rushed development cycles), which was not delayed, and turned out to be a buggy mess

and these are all things that can happen in a 3 year development cycle. also the game was in development for 12 years before it had developer switches or financial troubles.

I disagree.

That game was in trouble *long* before any of the problems that you're talking about. http://www.wired.com...ail_duke_nukem/

The longer it will be in developement the better.

Tell that to Duke Nukem Forever.  While I'm sure this delay will help, you can only delay the game so much before it causes detrimental effects and people expect too much from it.

I think despite what Bioware is saying, I'm thinking the delay of the game is for trying to increase the sales for the holidays which I think is BS in my opinion.  I'm generally just more annoyed with the decision than pissed off though so I'm not gonna cancel my preorder.

In my opinion Bioware should make it up to us by releasing more information, like letting us know the last 2 love interests remaining, release more information on the specializations, or even give us more information on the other origins.

Because that is typical.

Dragging that game out as a example only shows ignorance and desperation to make a point.

No other video game in ALL OF GAMING went thru what DNF did. Its a terrible comparison to anything.

1x cancelled pre-order; not their fault though. Since we're shipping out Nov 17. will no longer have time to play for six months. Sad as it is. Oh well. Can always use that Coll. Ed. edition for something more useful now.

Is it the delay that is causing the detrimental effects? Or is it detrimental effects that cause delays? I think it's an important distinction. Scope creep can be a serious concern for sure, but if this is the case the concern is the 1 year time extension we got, not the 1 month, because that was a delay to add more to the game. New features aren't created within a single month, but a heck of a lot of bugs can be addressed.

It's important to note, I think, that DAO was delayed several times too (and took 7 years).

I'm not sure if DNF would have been better received if they had taken their code base and game assets, as they were at any given time during the development, and just shipped that. I don't know what their code base was like at any point in time, so maybe I'm wrong - especially if rumors of restarting the development cycle was true. I do think the game would have been better served if we went back in time and made different decisions. This is very different than just releasing earlier with what they have.

If this is what you think then this is what you think. I don't know enough about industry sales patterns to say if it makes much of an impact on our sales or not. I could tell you what I was told, but I feel it wouldn't really change any minds anyways (plus there's no assurances that I'm telling the truth - one's perspective of if I am will likely be what they thought before me writing this).

I like the extra month because it will help us fix more bugs, and give us all more time in the game to find those bugs. More permutations, more different ways to play the game.

Will the game be bug free? No. Does a delay ensure that a game will not have serious bugs? No. But I have no qualms about being happy with another handful of weeks to catch as many of them as we can because I think ultimately it will make for a better experience by the players which is beneficial for both fans and BioWare.

Retail starts its holiday sales in days.  They're losing out on some sales, maybe, but selling a product that won't drive you nuts.  I can live with that.

But how much of those 7 years were spent with a team working hard at the game? That stretch of time was a hard time on BioWare  Moved into holding companies and eventually bought by EA.

Sorry to cherry pick a sentence but this whole time frame for development is a mirage. Time means very little if there are few people working on it or if there are large engine/team change made.

meh, as for some  I am still on the fence and now closer to many other release dates, it's pretty easy to just think "wait for the reviews" , for at this point there will be multiple AAA titles released around this time 2 of which I got to demo already, those are my buys atm (proven games) so yeah, I wish Bioware all the best, I really want this game to be the "end all" of DA designs, love the lore, but no reason to pre-order at this point. Hoping for the best however ;)

Yah basically this, there as also people from Dragon Age that worked on Mass.

Me for example I was on Mass and then I came onto this project. There are core people that remain only on a single franchise but there is a good amount of people that "swing" back and forth.

All you need to do is look at credits and see there are some people who have been involved in every BioWare game.

It warmed my heart to see names like "Stanley Woo" on your games from years back, or "Allan Schumacher" now.

To Allan, I don't mind how long you guys take with DA:I as long as you guys do a good job. Patience is a virtue.
