I have played a couple of games evil, but have not been very successful.

Shar Teel keeps leaving despite having the happy patch.

That is fine by me as the original idea of the game was that evil party members would leave if reputation gets too high.

The problem that I have discovered is lack of finance if reputation is low.

Is the easiest way to play, to gain a high reputation, go shopping and only then pick up other party members?

When I am a bit more familiar with playing evil, I would then stick more closely to role playing, but currently I am just wanting to survive with a four or five character party.

I've been most careful this run to make sure Shar-Teel was happy (she got chunked so now I'm deciding which wench I want to keep happy, Branwen, Safana or Viconia).

I don't think it makes sense to play a party where the PC is evil or good & has NPCs that are on the opposite spectrum. A good NPC will eventually figure out his companion(s) are evil by their dialogue.  An evil PC is probably more willing to have a good NPC if that NPC can further their ends & in the case of my PCs, I would @ least in my game I role play trying to convert them to my deity.

The neutral characters are a bit more tricky.  Safana has been the most vocal but Quayle squawks a bit too.

My rep has fluctuated from 2-3 to 8-9.  I'm trying to keep it a 8 (disliked), 9 gets me to (average) & brings Safana on-board, still she hasn't mentioned leaving.  I've added Branwen to replace Shar-Teel & she's still fine w/everything.

I think 8 is about where you want to keep it for smooth game play. In my case, I don't install the Happy Patch or any of the mods that affect the responses of NPCs toward the PC or toward each other.  CKT

Why not take advantage of your evil tendencies and steal from the shops to boost your finances?

There. I've told you that I'm not used to being evil. :D

Having had to teach my kids not to steal, it comes hard doing it myself even if it is only a game. :(

I always use the low rep gives discounts part of the bg tweak pack, but that's probably only available on the non-ee version. The merchants should be afraid of you so they give you discounts is how I've always thought it should work. You have the flaming fist/cowled wizards attacking you at low rep anyway, that's bad enough.

I accidentally got my rep down to 1 once. That WAS a problem as everyone was going hostile.
