I know we're all a tad bummed about the delay to November, so let's divert our attention from our woes to a very serious topic: can any of the companions cook?

This isn't a "what food is the party" guessing game. This is just an assessment of the culinary skills of the main cast, borne out of a topic broached in the Varric thread. I'll rank them using four categories: Non-Existent, Minimal, Good and Excellent.

Varric: Used to room in the Hanged Man, which means he probably took most of his meals in the tavern. He did have to be somewhat self-sufficient in his youth, but he also comes from money and probably had servants to look after that sort of thing. Cooking skills: Minimal.

Cassandra: Related to Nevarran royalty, but her family was (mostly) killed off at a young age. Probably had a fairly hard life, and I imagine the Seekers have to look after themselves on long missions. Cooking skills: Good.

Cole: Unless there's some mention of Cole preparing food in Asunder that escapes me at the moment, I figure he subsisted entirely on stolen food. Cooking skills: Non-Existent.

Vivienne: Raised in a Circle and a prominent figure in the Orlesian court. If she's ever been in front of a s, I'd be astonished. Cooking skills: Non-Existent.

The Iron Bull: Qunari are not known for being excellent cooks, but the life of a mercenary probably means tromping around the countryside and that probably means having to feed himself at some point. Cooking skills: Minimal.

Solas: Lived alone by himself in the wild for most of his life, so he needs to have learned how to feed himself. Probably knows a great deal about nutritious plants and is a good hunter. Cooking skills: Excellent.

Sera: Seems to be the type who isn't very picky about the food she eats and is probably lost in a kitchen. If she doesn't steal most of what she eats, I'll be a nug's uncle. Cooking skills: Minimal.

Dorian: He's a magister, so he's probably had slaves or servants to look after his meals. That said, he's a bit of a rebel against his culture, so he might reject that sort of thing. It's hard to say. Cooking skills: Minimal to Good.

Blackwall: Grey Wardens are known for having big appetites, and there's certainly not going to be any servants tending to his needs down in the Deep Roads. Probably knows a few good recipes for nug meat. Cooking Skills: Good.

Can't we just get a cook at Skyhold?

I saw a table with  food , maybe roasted nug on a table on some Skyhold screenshot?(I think it's  Leliana , or Cullen screenshot)

I don't really trust my companions.

Varric , Sera , The Iron Bull seem like they eat at taverns.

Cassandra, Vivienne , Dorian are all nobles or pretending they are anyway.

Solas probably ate mushrooms , and acorns.

I'm not sure Cole eats now.

And Blackwall...don't know, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure Jospehine can recommend a chef.

I'd promote Iron Bull up to at least Medium. I bet he cooks a mean steak.

I can't imagine a qunari cooking anything that tastes good... unless that was their role in the Qun, they probably just know basic survival stuff.  Then a gain, Iron Bull is kind of like Vuples Inculta from Fallout New Vegas... no idea what tricks he's picked up living among the heathens.

I thought this was going to be another thread about eating companions.

Doubt any of them would be better than mediocre at cooking. Solas seems to be very wrapped up in walking the fade, so I doubt he spends any time on making fancy food. I imagine he'd mostly eat it raw.

The only ones that seem like they might be proficient in making tasty food would be Blackwall and Cassandra. But I think there'll be a cook or two under your employ. And you bring the inquisition with you to your forward camps, so we'll avoid an Alistair stew situation.

If I were going to enjoy an inquisition meal I'd make the chefs:

Dorian and Josephine.

Vivienne could suggest dishes but would not sully her hands cooking it.

I disagree. If Viviene's tastes are as fine as they seem, she will have intimate knowledge of the taste of all the finest cuisine, and she WILL know how to make it correctly. Course, knowing how  and being able are two very different things. I'd had to disagree on the Non-Existent ruling. I would rate her right with Dorian, Minimal to Good.

I expected cannibalism... not sure if I’m disappointed or relieved. Either way I don’t see any of them being particularly good cooks.
