I'd be more than happy with the illusion of long hair, I do find long flowing hair in certain games annoying (origins, yes I'm talking mods), especially if it falls over the front...updo's, braids, ponytails are fine for me...as long as I can then imagine that my character would let it down when she's chilling at the keep or something. A well textured updo or braid would be fine. Good hair isn't a game breaker for me, but it is very much appreciated.

How so? Are you a game developer? Do you have any firsthand knowledge or experience that would support this view?
I could ask you the same question in your argument for the opposite point of view.

If the hair just had physics it would solve all animation and clipping issues.
Moving hair looks way better than static, highly detailed hair. Give me the hair from Saint's row any day over this farce.

Not really. I'm not the one making the positive claim.

I'd honestly be fine with the same level of hair detail as in DA2 (where it moves a little instead being static).

Also, long hair would be a pain to deal with during something like combat, even when (I'd imagine) braided or otherwise restrained.
There were plenty of long-haired warriors throughout history, actually. The Spartans are one such example:

Many, many developers have gone on record stating long hair is extrememly hard to animate and it eats up a lot of RAM. No offense, but I'll trust their word over yours. I can link you to some of those statements if you don't believe me.

No longer hair then =/
This wouldn't be so bad if the short hair didn't look so barf worthy.
Can you just imagine how much resources it would take, just to do this. I bet it would have eaten up the entire budget.
BUT MONEY WELL SPENT

It's based on an educated guess and experience as a gamer, I reckon.
And I agree with him.
Every single RPG out there offers tons of options for long hair, and has NPCs with long hair, etc.
DA:I doesn't... Because it's hard to do?
Yeah, that's some weaksauce excuse-making.

Does every single RPG run on Frostbite 3?

Do i care, as a customer?
Every and any RPG, especially AAA-ones, have offered long-hair options and NPCs... From DA:Origins to Witcher to Elder Scrolls to even freaking Dark Souls - where character creation is an afterthought and doesn't even matter due to the ridiculous amount of cool armor you'll pick up anyway.
Every MMO has it as well.
You fork out of 50 or 70 EUR for an AAA game where the devs didn't put in long hair (in a fantasy world, yo, long hair was kind of the norm in medieval ages),
why would I care if it's limited by the engine?
They marketed that engine like it was the best thing in the world, and it can't do long hair?
Yeah, still a weak excuse IMO.

As far as I can tell, there are two options: stiff, long hair that clips through your armor, or relatively short hair that looks more natural. I personally prefer the latter.
DA:Origins
Origins didn't have long hair. Unless you consider shoulder-length hair to be "long", in which case, I doubt Inquisition will be that limited.

I could live with that then.
Problem is, I haven't seen basically any NPCs in the DA:I gameplay footage so far with anything BUT short hair.

I'd prefer better short hairstyles, than long hairstyles. I simply found them so out of context for my characters...Long hair need cure, short hair are way more pratical.
and in a world like DA, where head lice, catch fire, being grabbed byt the hair is possible...well, long hair just seems even more impratical.
I loved Cassandra's hairstyle in DA2, I always use on my Hawkes minus one. I was very disappointed to see she now have a braid. very very disappointed.
I would hve loved DA2's Cass hairstyle for my Elf. ![]()

Come on Sam. That short hair on that elf and Cass doesn't even look remotely natural. At all.

I don't need waist long hair or anything like that, but I would really like at least some shoulder length options, which I'm sure they will have.

Short hair is great for females who are in combat all the time, but long hair kept in a pony tail or bun is preferable as well.
I still find it disappointing how long hair can't be done in DAI though....so much for that big bad FB3 engine making things easier.

Yeah I wouldn't mind long styles that were in braids and bundled on the head (I'd still want a few shoulder length styles for my mages).
I just don't want just choices similar to Cass' hair or Sera's =/
