The Witcher 3 was originally suppose to come out this year, but it was delayed until early 2015 (Feb 24 to be exact). It was a smart move from CD Projekt, seeing how they can self publish their games & run the risk doing so. DAI needs more than a month to properly compete with the Witcher 3, and even then, CD Projekt are in their golden age. There once was a time when BioWare held the title of Master & CD Projekt was their apprentice. Now, their titles have reversed. CD Projekt are the Masters & BioWare is just playing catch-up.

I don't agree with your opinion. CD Projekt and Bioware make two different types of RPGs.

Bioware, allows players to choose what their character's gender, appearance class, personality  (sometimes race), etc

CD Projekt gives you a set character, with a set gender, appearance, race and personality.

Neither type is objectively superior to each other but depending on your personal preferences you may prefer one type over the other.

I've played and enjoyed almost all Bioware RPGs (I haven't played SWTOR) where as I just can't get into Witcher games.

In theory I should really like The Witcher but there is just too much about it that annoys me,I couldn't get into either game.

I'm not saying that you are wrong to think that Witcher games are better just that you are wrong to state your opinion as a fact.

To me, there is to competition between the Witcher and DAI.

One let's you craft your own character and gives you a real connection to your character.

The other lazily forces a dumb character down your throat and expects you to feel a connection to him.

I feel sorry for you you are missing out on amazing games

You feel sorry, how do you think us poor sods who would otherwise have a few more decent looking RPGs in the playlist feel? I could cheerfully strangle companies who churn out RPGs with set protagonists. Especially when they pick irritating ones.

Edited: On reflection that's unfair. It's not RPGs specifically, and less set protagonists and more ones I've run into before in other media. I can't think of one I've enjoyed even when I liked the character involved.

Now how many people are out there who can honestly say "I will never touch BW \ CD Projekt games with a 10 foot pole!" ? Sure they are exist but I bet their numbers are very small. For the rest of the gamers it's either both games from the start or they get hooked with one game and when they come to ask for something similar they get the other too. It's not MMOs fighting for subscribers, it's a one time deal for those who like the genre. In this case both games more like advertisement for each other.

Seriously? Why does it need to be a competition? There are few enough RPGs being produced by game companies today, let alone any that are well developed, with decent story, good characters and awesome graphics. I am grateful for every single one. The only "competition" I see is comparisons players will make, or innovations they really like in one over another, that might help inspire better games in the future all around.

I just want the people who make them well to keep on making RPGs for me to play. All of them.

I often wonder how much "competition" there really is between games.    I have never NOT bought a game I wanted just because another one came out at the same time.   I buy them both.

Example:   Just recently I bought both Age of Wonders 3 and Warlock 2:Exiled.   Both games are turn based fantasy strategy games.   Both are enjoyable.

To me, it isn't like a Chevy vs. Ford rivalry, where you typically only need one.   If games are good I buy them regardless of their release time.

People sometimes forget not everyone can afford to buy these $60 games all at once. For me i always buy ONE game during the "hot" season (September, October, November and December) and i wait for all the others to go on sale ( i only just got AC:Black Flag). By releasing in October it was a fact i was getting DA:I first but with the changing release date it may not be the first game anymore and i may not play DA:I until around this time next year since AC:Unity is looking really good and i may just buy it since it releases sooner depending on reviews.

I will of course play DA:I just don't know if it will be at launch now.

I know that a delay means more time for polishing the game, and that is a good thing, but the game was already delayed from last year, now again, it might even be delayed again, we can't know for sure, but i can't help feeling sad about having to wait more. About DAI vs The Witcher thingy, It's actually true that many people 'choose' what they are going to buy if the games release date are close. And i'm not talking just about RPGs. I like both games a lot, I got my DAI as a surprise gift, so i'm considering buying The Witcher 3 anyway, but i understand and know people who feel like they need to choose for several reasons, time and money being the top 2.

Can you tell me if DA:I has RGB ending as well ?... i would really like to know.

i don't understand why people are so against competition betwen the 2 games (p.s. i'm not referring to idiots on both sides claiming one is the king and the other is trash). Competition drives the industry forward, it forces the devs on both sides to strive to make better games, invent new mechanics etc to give their game an edge over the other.

On topic - i think the OP was reffering to the posibility that DA:I would end up competing in 2015 game awards or other such gaming competitions because of it's late release. It would be considered unfair to put a game that is released 1 week before the competition against a game released months before, so it might be considered as a nominee in the next year....that is what i thought the OP meant

I played both previous Witcher games and this one will be no different to them at all. Doesn't even interest me as being able to play it more than once or even trying to finish it. <_<

Its not a competition. For those of us who really like to play rpgs, this is a win win situation. We get two great games. Whoever sells the most is not the same as some sports result.

Eh I will probably pick up Witcher 3 when it comes out but I am definitely looking forward to DAI way more.  I find being forced to play as Geralt to be limiting.  I like having a customizable protagonist and having a party based combat system.  It makes for interesting gameplay/combat not to mention that it allows for fun/interesting character interactions.

I don't think that there's that much overlap between the two really, what with there being a good few months between them. However for the cash strapped people like myself I think it comes down to pricing. I can't justify paying £50.00 for a game on launch when a few months later a RPG with a similar amount of content from a developer I trust a little bit more than Bioware is coming out for £35.00 on steam and GOG. I'll end up getting them both of course, but I think i'll wait for DAI do be going for a little cheaper on g2a.

You can customize Geralt a little bit, though. Make him a swordsman, magic user, or an alchemist. + go to the barber and get various haircuts. That's it, though.

It has less to do with the idea that competition is bad, and more to do with confusion that they'd be competing at all.  Aside from taking place in fairly traditional fantasy settings and both fitting under the broad umbrella of "RPG", they don't have many directly comparable facets in their mechanics.

Don't you sort of have to dip into all three to be effective in the tougher fights though?  That's what I seem to remember from TW2.

With the time gap there is at the moment, if DA:I is a success it might well boost The Witcher's sales.  I mean, if you enjoyed one fantasy CRPG, you'll probably be more interested in trying another.  And odds are most people will be done with DA by then.

Man, if I had a nickel for everytime someone compared The Witcher to Dragon Age, I could afford the Da:I Collector's edition already.

I will probably buy both games. Double the fun.

i don't care about the Witcher (first game bored me, although i've enjoyed bits of slavic mythology. also i think i'm too old for those books, they were great in highschool, now they seem silly). i've seen Cyberpunk trailer (hate it) - i hope it'll change my mind about CD Projekt Red

i'm buying PoE tho. i think i'll buy DA:I as well (even if lack of info about features i'm interested in pisses me off)

Sales and marketing teams don't care about the people on forums.  You guys are already invested.

What they care about is how to dupe the casuals, that's where the extra money comes from.  Going against Lord of the Rings as a fantasy game will always lose you sales, no matter quality of game.  It would be like Infamous going against Batman, you don't go against the established mainstream series.

And plus by the time they have been taken off the new release shelf, a shiny new game will already be out will have taken that place to fool the casual gamer.

It was a smart thing to do.  It has no competition on the shelf from a similar game(yes, I know they are not similar but most people just see a guy with a sword on the box with the title).

I could care less about the witcher games.  I only played the witcher 2 for about a day then it just became a dust collector after that, not remotely interested in the third one.

BioWare and CDP Red aren't even competing against eachother. The Witcher and Dragon Age IPs are completely different, and play differently. I don't see any conflicts. I've preordered both, and don't feel guilty in the slightest as I can't see any favouritism either way. I'm certain, too, that at least a few of the Devs from both companies are going to play the other's game.
