The only competition that will transpire are fans' comparison between each game and which is arguably better. The sale numbers will hardly hurt any parties, I'd believe.

On the contrary. I think both series will benefit from the other's success. As people play one fantasy game, the interest in the fantasy genre goes up and they will want to try another fantasy series.

It's funny how people are using emotionless as an excuse that Geralt is bad character.

Adam Jensen is pretty much the same and nobody complains about him.

Jensen CAN be cold and emotionless, but it depends on what conversation options you choose. You can also be very agressive and passionate towards people.

Geralt on the other hand is always in Steven Seagal mode.

It would be easier not to care if a huge percentage video game protagonists weren't white dudes.

I think the real numbers would surprise you, especially when you take all the indie games on Steam into account. Most protagonists are either women or alien, almost genderless constructs, like in Fez.

It really depends on the genre. Obviously most shooters have white guys as the lead, but really, they also have wafer-thin plots and little to no character development. You can barely count those as great white male representations, they are essentially aliases for the player.

There is no competition. Never was.

I'm planning to buy both.

You do realize you can be agressive and passionate with Geralt as well.

The only difference is that Geralt doesn't show his anger and emotions. Jensen does a bit more, but both characters pretty much always speak with same tone.

Not giving The Witcher a go because of "white man" protagonist is unfortunate. You are missing out on a great game :/

Indeed, and I couldn't care less about protagonist's skin color and ethnicity or gender. People who put so much value on those things tend to miss out many great games.

Personally, not fond of the character or the world when it comes right down to it, his desire to find Yennifer means nothing to me, and the fact that he is an established character with several pre-game books/stories focusing on his life, allies, and enemies makes me disinclined to want to play as him. I imagine I will eventually pick the game up because despite it's faults (IMHO) RED (so far) executes their games well. In fact I encourage people to buy the game (that I think might like it) because I hope their Cyberpunk game will not have the Witchers baggage and thus be more fun to get into.

All lowly mortals who try to force competition between the Witcher and Dragon age series get the wrath of the Great Emperor Emhyr var Emreis and you should know "The White Flame" Emhyr dances on the barrows of his enemies......

Honestly, can we just agree that they are both exeptionally good games and there is absolutely no matter which sells more in the end. If they are both succesfull that just means more epic and mature RPG game stories for us all in the future. EVERYBODY wins no?

The Witcher 3 was originally suppose to come out this year, but it was delayed until early 2015 (Feb 24 to be exact). It was a smart move from CD Projekt, seeing how they can self publish their games & run the risk doing so. DAI needs more than a month to properly compete with the Witcher 3, and even then, CD Projekt are in their golden age. There once was a time when BioWare held the title of Master & CD Projekt was their apprentice. Now, their titles have reversed. CD Projekt are the Masters & BioWare is just playing catch-up.

Says who? Having one good RPG doesn't make you the master.

The Witcher 2 was a fine RPG, but nowhere near the Mass Effect series or Origins.

Well as an RPG fan I'll be buying both. I wish there was more "competition" for me to enjoy in the genre. There's never enough quality RPG's to play IMO.

I played the first game for an hour and haaaaaaated it. I don't see any need to spend more time with it, or to buy the sequels.

I regularly play other types of games with male protagonists, but I don't enjoy it in RPGs. (So no Witcher, no Gothic and no Alpha Protocol for me. I'll make an exception for Planescape: Torment.)

Mass Effect 1 is the only game from franchise i consider an RPG and that was lost in 2nd game and even more in the 3rd one.

A series is only as good as the sum of its parts. The same goes for stories. ME dropped a long way with that 3 coloured ending.

Sigh this again....

I could say that they are too different to even be compare on the same scale. One is a set protagonist with no followers and not tactical combat. The other has a CC and four voices for the PC.

I really do not get this obsession on both sides (yes both forums have this kinda of crap, although I find people here a lot more "polite" about it). They are both good RPGs but I lost interest on The Witcher mostly because of the homophobic posts and members that got a free pass. Also I got really tried of the constant hate for people that like bioware too, so I just left.

Still gonna to pick up the game at the barging bin most likely, I doubt there is gonna be any competition, they are separated by almost half a year.

While I do love ME and DAO series more than Witcher, I still think TW2 overpasses them all.

I lthought Witcher 2 was just an okay game for me. I am not crazy about the series, tis why I am on the fence about getting Witcher 3. I didnt play Witcher 1. But I wish people would stop comparing it to Dragon Age. Yes they both rpgs and there are some  similarities but they different types of stories, Plus Witcher 3 doesn't come out until sometime next year so it will not effect DA sells.

Its like when people compare GTA to Saints Row = same genra but different type of game play

I like The Witcher series but in my opinion The Witcher 2 was not as good as the first game and because it was weaker in a lot of ways I can't agree it surpasses the ME and DA series. TW2 felt extremely rushed with a rather anti-climatic last act. I have the hope TW3 has more in common withe first game than the last.

I have to disagree that TW3 is no competition because it more than likely would be if both games would be released in the same month or within a month from one another. There are a good amount of gamers who don't buy multiple games at once and I feel that with The Witcher series popularity TW3 will be the first choice. The hype for TW3 is just a lot higher than for DAI across the Internet.

Wait, are you serious? People complain about Adam Jensen all the freaking time.

He doesn't ruin Human Revolution any more than Geralt ruins the Witcher 2 as a whole, but I'd hardly call him the high point of the series.

If I want to mindlessly rant about da or witcher series I go to Youtube.

The Witcher 2 is groundbreaking. The interwoven quality narrative is unlike anything I've ever seen in the medium of video games. But people are people and deny themselves the experience because of personal bias. Their loss.

Some people might disagree.

I loved the Witcher series so far but it's a totally different style of game as it's more adult oriented material 18+ and I'm looking forward to TW3 I get my tax return normally in Feb. so I'll be getting it.

I'll have a good portion of Nov. Dec. and Jan. to play DA:I,  Alien Isolation and Middle-Earth Shadows of Mordor which release 10/7, it's kind of good that DA:I got pushed back to Nov. I can play these 2 other games and keep my mind focused on the real treat yet to come.

As I get laid off from work from Nov. to the end of Jan. as the company I work for won't pay Holiday's so we get 3 months vacation.
