So, what's EA up to now?

I know and understand that sometimes you just need more time to finish a product and get it ready for release.

Therefore this isn't a complaint about the 6 week delay, but please help me understand the extra 3 day wait for the EU release?

Its the future. Especially with so many people buying digital editions this is just plain weird.

Is this going to hinder my enjoyment of the game in the long run? No, of course not, but it sure as hell sucks for three days.

Thats a lot of suck to add to the world.

I vote to decrease world-suck! Darn it.

Sincerely

Yama

We Europeans are second hand citizens so we get the game last.
I am from the UK so we are also last in Europe.

Simply put, North American retailers release new games on Tuesdays, while European retailers release new games on Fridays.

Since they're not going to release the PC version 3 days before the console versions (because that would anger people - not justifiably, but it would), you get a 3 day delay.

He has posted it several times I think and he is not the only one with it bookmarked.

I see. I half way expected something arbitrary like this but thank you for the explanation.

We've seen same day releases for cross-platform titles in the past. I wonder what miracle it took to make those happen.

Oh, and don't forget that there are plenty of console players buying downloads as well. This is not just a PC thing.

Thank you for posting this.

Looks like all we can do is speak out against this antiquated practice. To quote directly from the article:

"This is a problem that will disappear as more and more people - and guys like yourself - are using their voice."

-Graeme Struthers

Ok, then. A reason to keep speaking out against this practice.

Thanks to everyone for the comments!

Sincerely

Yama

This itself hardly explains why the US release must be first -- as technically it could just as well be release on Friday in Europe, followed by Tuesday release in the US, couldn't it...

It could be changed but there is no real good reason to do so. One would think that the North American comes first because of higher sales, it traditonally being the main source for entertainment, etc.

And I honestly don't see the issue of having to wait a few extra days. One would think most people have the weekend off so getting the game on Tuesday instead of Friday is generally only beneficial for anyone with lots of free time during week days. And nobody loses out on anything not being able to play a single player game the second it comes out. It seems gamers nowadays have zero patience and think a game should be consumed as fast as humanly possible so the can go back to prerelease forums to tell everyone how bored they are.

What about TW3?

They're a polish company for one, is it coming out on consoles as well?  They're distributing it via their website and steam so I guess they dont need to care about it.

Hey, add my name to the pile of disappointed fans.  I am really not kidding when I say that I'm looking forward to this game with a passion that makes my partner a little jealous.  People who don't like me would leave off the word "little".  There is so much that goes into timing and whatnot, I, personally, am OK with the wait.  There are some things I'm not going to know and I like the world better because of that.  I'm totally cool not knowing if a decision was made because of mundanities.  The world is going to be what it is and if ignorance spares me from witnessing something ugly, let me stay ignorant for once.  I'll wind up the winner in the long run.

If we ever hit some global release date singularity, I just really hope the world agrees on friday releases. So much better to have the whole weekend to geek out, rather than have to be sensible and go to bed early on a work night.

My hat is off to you if you will be able to go to bed at all, early or otherwise, on release day.  I'm fairly certain it will be the 2nd all-nighter I've pulled since college.

New games come out on Tuesday in the US, and Friday in the UK.

It has been like this for a very long time and has absolutely nothing to do with EA, Bioware, or any other game developer/publisher.

It's not got nothing to do with them.  They could change it if they wanted to, but they don't think it's worth annoying the retailers in order to not annoy the customers.

You can put your hat back on, I'm weak. I'll start playing the game on the friday release date, seeing as I'm European. Then all weekend only interrupted by eating and probably feeling guilty about skipping the day's run, then I start a week's vacation on the monday to play more. If at all possible, I schedule some time off for Bioware (and Rockstar) releases.

For games that don't quite warrant time off, I've definetely been guilty of going to bed at unreasonable o'clock as well, although again it's kept somewhat under control by friday release dates.

And I working rolling schedule weekend does not exist for me. So I can care less then game is released. But if game is released and other people play it why I can't. And some stupid old historical reason is not excuse. If Ubisoft can have same release day world wide, so does EA.

Not really. I'd fathom a guess that the NA sales are greater than the EU sales.

Also, the way that NA markets track revenue is from like Tuesday to Monday for their week. You see it with the opening weekends of movies that go from Friday to Sunday, then the numbers come in on Monday. Got adopted as the standard. And that way they don't have a different reporting "week" as Tuesday-Friday is the same, while Friday-Tuesday is "2 weeks"

Do movies and albums come out on Fridays in EU as well?

Of course justifiably - console and pc versions are being developped at the same time, so why should there be a delay? (it's not a game for one system that gets portet, it is developped for both in the first place :)

greetings LAX

ps: I hate those delays, too (with the european market at least as large as the US-Market, why do companies constantly slight us? - Some of them have learned and don't do it, so why can't BW?)
