At the moment I think the most popular romance will be Cullen at least for female Inquisitors, taking all into consideration including sexuality, race-gates and player demographic I have a feeling it will go like -

1. Cullen

2. Cassandra

3. Josephine

4. Vivienne?

5. Solas?

6. Iron Bull

7. Dorian

8. Varric?

9. Sera

I know there are 9 listed here but I'm just listed them how I feel they would fall should they be romances.

I don<t know about Cullen getting the top spot. Female LIs tend to be the most popular, from the various polls I have seen online.

Josephine, I could see being the most popular. She's fairly conventionally attractive and seems like she'll be the "agreeable" female option, which is usually popular. Female options are usually more popular than male options. Second will probably be Cassandra, and then maybe Cullen. Last, I would guess Iron Bull, because I doubt most mainstream, casual players will be into it, or definitely Varric if he's a straight, dwarven romance, like some people guess. There just aren't enough people that will want to play such a narrow character description.

Possibly, I thought Iron Bull would be quite high though, maybe not far behind Cullen for female Inquisitors. Maybe Josephine will kind of turn out to be like Liara, attractive yet delicate and intelligent, supportive even.

I don't know, I think sometimes characters can surprise you.

I think Cassandra will probably be a pretty safe bet for being fairly high on the list.  I think she also might draw in more because she is a companion as apposed to an advisor like Josephine, although I think Josie will do pretty well too.  Assuming they don't make Cullens character too...?pushy? (can't think of the right word), I think he should do pretty well too.  I think Solas would do well if he is put in, Varric might have a harder time, especially if he race-gated to dwarves.  I honestly think Iron Bull could potentially be a little bit of a dark horse if his character is strong enough.

I was surprised when it turned out Leliana was the most popular of the DAO romance options - it seemed like every guy I know romanced Morrigan. But I that's anecdata for you.

On that basis, I'm going to guess Josephine, followed by Cassandra. People playing male characters and romancing women will probably outnumber other demographics, which is going to push Cullen down the list a bit.

(Me,though, I'm going for Varric if he's an option or Iron Bull if he isn't. Of course, I'm also playing a female dwarf rogue, so I'm used to life in the Land Of Unpopular Dragon Age Choices.)

I would be very surprised if Sera came in last, though. A lot of straight dudes like to make a female character and have her make out with ladies.

I'm betting Josephine will be the most popular: she's adorable and available to all.

Cullen will not be the most popular LI, all the female LIs, unless they are dreadful characters, will be over ranking him. A lots of male players play female characters to romance female LIs and a lots of female players do the same thing, because the straight female options are usually not that interesting.

I also think Josephine will likely be the most popular romance. Cassandra can be quite the push over, and that puts some players off, while Josephine for all we know is friendly and polite, that would surely fall on the male players good side.

Cullen will most likely be the most popular male romance, I don't doubt that.

I would go with Josephine has number one since bisexual female characters tend to get a lot of romances, straight guys, gay ladies, straight guys playing gay ladies.  But since she's an advisor I'll go with Cassandra.

1) Cassandra

2) Josephine

3) Cullen

4) Sera

5) Iron Bull

6) Dorian

I'm not going to bother ranking the unknown romances, but if Varric is gated to female Dwarves, he'll be last, if he's not gated and bisexual he'll be ahead of Cullen.

Agree with Josephine. Bisexual and relatively nonthreatening. The more aggressive/ice queen romances have their fans, but Leliana, Tali, and Liara are all hugely popular.

Miranda was the most popular ME2 romance I believe.  Of course that might have been because you could see her face and she had hair

pretty sure Dorian would be higher on the list than Iron Bull. Have you seen how many ladies are drooling over him, in addition to gay players? Enough for there to be plenty of male quizitors romancing Dorian.

So here's my logic on this:

1) Female LIs tend to be more popular.
2) Bisexual LIs have double the audience than monosexual LIs.
3) 'Niche' romances, such as those narrowed to a single demographic or those who aren't traditionally attractive might have less takers.

So based on those assumptions:

1) Josephine
2) Vivienne (if applicable)
3) Cassandra
4) Solas (if applicable)
5) Cullen
6) Sera
7) Iron Bull
8) Dorian
9) Varric (if applicable)

ETA: my top three romance choices are 7-9 in this list..... :(

I know this isn't a legitimate way to look at it, but I think it'd be interesting to take each companion's respective fan thread's popularity into consideration. Each thread's post count I think is somewhat indicative of the fervor and enthusiasm for that character.

Based on that, the most popular male LI's would be
1) Cullen
2) Dorian
3) Varric
4) Solas
5) Iron Bull
^given that the unconfirmed companions are applicable of course

For the ladies:
1) Cassandra/Josephine. I feel like Josephine lags behind a little just because she has been anonymous for a long time and is now quickly catching up.
2) Sera
3) Vivienne

I think people are taking into consideration the fact that Dorian is only available to one sex, whereas Bull can be romanced by anyone.

Just ranking by gender, I'd say;

1. Josephine

2. Cassandra

3. Sera

4. Vivienne

1. Cullen

2. Solas

3. Dorian

4. Iron Bull

5. Varric (if restricted to dwarves, move up to 3 or 4, if not)

Just like it didn't stop so many dudes from playing FemSheps to romance Traynor, I doubt homosexuality is going to stop the many female players here from having a male quizitor playthrough to romance Hotty McHot Mage. Dorian is extremely attractive by conventional standards, whereas Iron Bull is naturally a niche market given his qunari-ness. I know for myself that I'm more likely to play a male Inquisitor that romances Dorian than playing a female quizitor romancing IB.

Dorian and Sera are two of the most conventionally attractive LIs. I absolutely believe a decent amount of straight women and men will make an opposite gender character to romance them. Bioware has said before that their numbers for same sex content are higher than they assume actual gay players exist. It's not really news that some straight people like seeing this kind of thing.

I think he meant pushy.
