I'm hoping the concept of Bioware points dies, especially now that you're requiring Origin anyway, so you have a secure storefront already...you wouldn't need a separate system.

Have any devs said anything either way?

MOD Edit: Clarifying question and answer. Details here:

Dragon Age: Inquisition PC will not be using BioWare Points.

That's great news - I still plan to buy the ME3 and DA2 DLC whenever they become available for purchase in dollars.

I bought DA2 on Steam, and unfortunately it seems unlikely the DLC will ever make it to the next holiday sale.

Cant buy the DLC on steam anyway even if EA hadnt removed the game from the store.

Hehe, reminds me of Stanley Parable demo when the narrator goes on about "real world money".

Valve removed the game from their store. Not BioWare or EA.

Valve removed it when EA went outside of the terms of service. EA said Valve adopted a more restrictive ToS than any other digital download service, EA violated said terms and Valve pulled a few EA games for the violation. No idea what the violation was, something to do with DLC I believe.

I wish EA would do like Complete Edition or GOTY type all dlc and expansion included version of their games, Like Dragon Age Ultimate Edition...rather than buying individual pieces one by one , would make things much better. We don't have one for Dragon age 2 or even Mass Effect 3...

My understanding since neither side has publicly said what happened is Valve created a new ToS that said all DLC must be sold through the Steam Store and EA wanted to continue what they had been doing up to that point selling the game through Steam, but the DLC through their servers.  They released new DLC for Crysis (3 I believe) and Dragon Age 2 and both games were pulled because of new DLC that violated Steams new ToS.

To the original topic I am glad to hear the DLC will be sold through Origin instead of using BioWare points and look forward to what I can do with my balance in the future.

Yes, I imagine a lot of people have been waiting to pick up a DA2 or ME3 complete edition with all the DLC for a good sale price.

That was my understanding too. Valve wanted the same cut of the DLC revenue that they get for the games, and EA didn't want to give that revenue up. I haven't got a dog in this fight.

Can we use real money to buy Dragon Age II and Mass Effect DLC now, or do we still have to use BioWare Points for all pre-Inquisition games. I'm confused about this.

BioWare points are still necessary for pre-inquisition games.

Crap. I wasn't sure if "BioWare Points are supported" also meant "BioWare Points are required".

Really hope that's not the case.

Based on user feedback, beginning with Dragon Age: Inquisition, BioWare Points will no longer be supported as a means to purchase DLC. This applies to PC or Mac only, as consoles will continue to support their respective methods of purchasing downloadable content. Instead of using BioWare Points, PC and Mac users can purchase future DLC directly through Origin, using currency.

Players can still buy and use BioWare Points for existing BioWare games that already support their use. Please see below for a full list of supported titles.

We are notifying all players of this change well in advance of Dragon Age: Inquisition’s release to avoid any confusion.

List of BioWare titles that support BioWare Points:

  • Dragon Age: Origins
  • Dragon Age 2
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Mass Effect 3

I don't see where it says they will be required, just that you can still use them. Which makes sense, as some people probably still have some of those damn points sitting around, at least they can spend them on something.

Hoping I will be able to finally buy the ME3 and DA2 DLC that I've been waiting a few years to get. I prefer to pay in USD whenever the DLC goes on sale at around 50% or 75% off, don't want to go through all that hassle to buy these points and have something left over, etc.

I totally agree that PC owners get the short end of the stick with BioWare points as there aren't any discounts with DLC, in contrast with how it's handled in Microsoft and Sony consoles. I'm glad that this won't happen with Inquisition but I don't think that DLC from old titles will be able to be purchased for PC with real cash, at least not for a long time.

BioWare Points will continue on for a long time as we still sell DLC for ME2, ME3, DA1, and DA2. This needs to continue.

Correct, existing DLC for past BioWare PC games will only be available for BioWare Points. DLC for DAI and future PC games will be for real money.

Ah, that's too bad!

I think they could sell so much more of the DLC if they put it on Steam or at least made it available directly through Origin.

As was stated earlier, we are looking into some solutions for this situation. More details later.

So with the game coming out soon has BioWare found a solution?

As I said before, we are looking into some solutions for people that still have a balance. We don't have anything to announce at this time, though, but hopefully more info in the coming months.

Has there been any updates on BioWare points? A lot of people have left over point's from previous titles with nothing left to spend them on and the last post I've been able to find from BioWare was over half a year ago.

Stuck with points too.  Nice extra money for them simply stolen from their customers since that "solution" is never coming apparantly.
