Bio controls the dollar costs, Bio controls the point costs. Why would changing from points to dollars change anything? I mean, it'd be great if they did cut DLC prices, but it's not like anything was stopping them from cutting the DLCs' Bio point costs before.
Q: Will the PC version use BioWare points for DLC or human money? A: Human money.

Can't. It has to do how we financially and legally set up BioWare Points back in the day. Because of that decision we cannot turn them into cash. It was not a consequence that we foresaw.
How is it legally impossible for a company to offer refunds?
Followup; why doesn't every company use that same legal set up to never lose money to customers that want a refund on any product?
For the record I only have 640 Bioware points so no big deal financially and I do imagine others are in a similar boat, having few enough points left over where anyone will really not fuss over it. And perhaps I'm just being cynical and looking for the hidden agenda but this doesn't feel right that a company can't just say to customers "you have $8 in points, here is an option to refund you $8" but it does seem to heavily favor the company over the customer in this instance.

Its based on how its handled in their financial documents, for I am pretty sure with any company if you buy a gift card from them you can't return it for a refund either and from what I have told some companies won't allow you to refund unless its in the same manner you paid. In some cases you are stuck with store credit too for how they account for the transaction so if you used a pre-paid debit card you will only get a gift card for a return.

Great news with the direct payment method. It would be awesome to see a discount policy (main game + DLC) added to this in order to increase bulk sales after prime time, get new players on the bandwagon, and boost overall fan happiness and long term willingness to buy more in the future.
As a side note, I hope it doesn't take years after this official announcement for the Bio points to be finally phased out. It would be bad/confusing business to keep that annoying thorn much longer. If the Origin store would have a wallet system, BP could be recycled to this new (more flexible) format.

You should get Omega anyway, it's pretty fun.
I'm sure it is, but I have very little interest towards Mass Effect atm (and I've already been spoiled about some things in Omega, ones I really don't appreciate). But then again, it would be a great way to hear Sumalee Montano's voice and decide which voice I want for my Inquisitor. ![]()
Ha, I just realized how much of a first world problem this is. "I spent all this money on these virtual points but now I can't find video game content that pleases me enough to spend them!"

I don't think BioWare points are going to be phased out for I would think the older games for Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 3 would both need patches to change their internal system to a cash based system and unless those games would justify the man hours for such a patch and making sure it works I can't see it happening.

BioWare Points will continue on for a long time as we still sell DLC for ME2, ME3, DA1, and DA2. This needs to continue.

Since you've said in a previous post to this topic that "something" will be done for those of us who still have points but no interest in (or have already bought all) current DLC, I'll wait to see what's offered before complaining, thank you, but I am curious to see what that "something" will be.

Is it possible to turn the Bioware points into that platinum money used for DA multiplayer?

That would be spending BioWare Points on Dragon Age: Inquisition PC and this is what we have announced that we are not supporting.

Ok.
I thought it was only for Inquisition DLC.
The way I understand things we will pay directly for future DLC via Origin.
But the DA multiplayer will have its own currency , platinum .I suppose it will work like Bioware points ,except it will only be used for DA mp transaction.

As was stated earlier, we are looking into some solutions for this situation. More details later.

Have I understood correctly that DLC for these games can still only be bought with Bioware Points in the future and not with normal currency too?

I can get alot of the arguments on both sides and I do use both Steam and Origin and have to admit Origin is improving alot lately with its times trials of games like titanfall, while its a game I despise due to my one encounter with it left me feeling like it was a COD/Unreal Tournament/Mechwarrior hackjob I do admire the effort being made, though when it comes to older games like Darksiders 2 I find myself gravitating to Steam purely because I was able to pick up both Darksiders 1 and 2 around £6 when on Origin it would have cost me £20 just for Darksiders 2 alone.
I can see the business argument for keeping games at full price for a while, however the comes a point when keeping the price high does more damage then good I can remember when even after GTA V's release GTA4 was still on Xbox Live Store at the exact same price it launched at(£40)some years after it had launched and now its sequel was available the price had not changed. It also worries me that in this move to digital releases we are still tied to staggered releases based on the old physical media distribution system and that the lower costs of not having to make so many physical discs has not been passed on to the consumer but I digress.....

For now, yes. They might eventually convert older DLCs to currency and completely phase out Bioware Points, if it's even doable at all, but not right now. For the moment, they're just making the cut-off point at Inquisition:
DAO / DA2 / ME2 / ME3 = Bioware Points
DAI / ME-Not-4 / New IP = currency only

Correct, existing DLC for past BioWare PC games will only be available for BioWare Points. DLC for DAI and future PC games will be for real money.

That's a shame. Will you guys at least put the points on sale? The only thing keeping me from buying ME3 is the price of the DLCs.

I hope there are still DLC codes that you can buy, Origin won't let me buy anything on it for some reason so unless i create a new Origin account i won't be able to buy any DLC, and it's already bad enough that i have to buy every EA game from a store instead of buying it digitally.

Please send me a private message with your Origin support incident number and I can try and see if I can help you and figure out what has gone wrong. Otherwise, this really doesn't have anything to do with the discussion of BioWare points as the issue you are describing seems more basic.
