Regarding full price: I would never have got me1/2 if it hadn't been cheap on steam (£6 if I recall, this was October 2013) - that worked out well for EA as I bought me3 and all the eye gougingly expensive dlc.
However I cannot imagine that if they had been origin full price only that I would have bought them, and EA would have overall lost out on the fairly substantial amount of money I ended up shelling out.
Cut your nose etc.

Anyway, enough OT.

I picked up my copy from Ebay. I probably paid about 5 pounds for it

When else would someone use Origin? Or Steam?

Origin doesn't push sales alerts at you all the time the way Steam does, since they don't have as many titles to have sales with.

There's also the fact that Origin only has EA titles.

Ah I stand corrected :)

Although only 2 games from THQ. Do the Ubisoft games require uPlay?

Correct, existing DLC for past BioWare PC games will only be available for BioWare Points. DLC for DAI and future PC games will be for real money.

Thanks for answering! That's a pity, though, but still, good thing you're changing the system for the future!

That's a shame. Will you guys at least put the points on sale? The only thing keeping me from buying ME3 is the price of the DLCs.

They've never done that before. Why would they start now?

IIRC, I heard people saying there was one or two Bioware point sales. Could be wrong, though. Only stuff I'm waiting for are DA2 DLCs. Meh.

Apparently they had a sale years ago. Nothing since then.

So bye-bye 720 points!!  I allready own all of the dlc of previous games.  I think it is good it will be obsolete but a phase out period should be considered so everyone stuck with points at least can buy something with them!!  Why do firms only come up with ideas always in their favor and the customer always with the short end of the stick?  Robbery I call this.

In a limited sense, I suppose so. They get the money upfront but don't have to give out anything until the points are redeemed, and the odd denominations make it likely that some points will never be redeemed. It's the same logic behind gift cards.

Can't say I've encountered that problem with gift cards. Always had to carefully add up the # of points I had with the points I needed. Won't miss doing that

Yeah, with a little work you can avoid leaving value locked up in the cards. But a lot of people don't, often through laziness. This means that they're making an interest-free loan to the card issuer.

Bio points are a little worse than that. Since it's unlikely that your intended DLC purchases exactly match the bundles points are sold in, it's very hard to avoid some inefficiency there.

I found myself with a zero balance after almost every purchase. I remember there was one DLC a few years back that I had the points for already when I went to go buy it, but for the past couple of years I think I've bought exactly how many BP I needed at the moment.

As I said before, we are looking into some solutions for people that still have a balance. We don't have anything to announce at this time, though, but hopefully more info in the coming months.

Personally, and I know this isn't a popular opinion, I preferred the BioWare points thing. The reason was simple - it was cheaper. You see, Origin makes me pay for all things in Euros, even though my country isn't part of the EU (it isn't even in Europe - close, but not in Eurpoe), and our currency is not the Euro. When I bought BioWare points on the BSN I could pay in US$, which turned out to be cheaper EVERY TIME (and yes, I checked). Even though the actual number cost was different in $ and Euro, the converted $ cost was always lower.

So personally, I will be sorry to see the BioWare points gone.

Well, that's rather a problem of them not being fair, sadly.

i do hope there is an option for people with points to finish using them up (or to pay for the balance with cash if they do not have enough points). I think it is just a simple programming code and can be done.

To reduce the server load of maintaining such a system, u can set a deadline (probably a year from the release of DAI) to allow people to finish up the points.

Probably not as simple as that. Otherwise they'd have done it

Or simply time consuming for their programers... And they just don't want to pay them for that...

EA sells games cheap on Origin all the time. I got DA2 for $5.

Everyone sells DA2 for cheap though. It was $10 in Best Buy within a week or 2 after release.

So what? The point was that they often have sales on Origin. DA2 isn't always $5 anywhere; IIRC it typically lists for $20 these days.

Drat.  I have a lot of BW points, I have all the DLC, and I don't play ME3 anymore.  :(
