I'm hoping the concept of Bioware points dies, especially now that you're requiring Origin anyway, so you have a secure storefront already...you wouldn't need a separate system.

Have any devs said anything either way?

MOD Edit: Clarifying question and answer. Details here:

Dragon Age: Inquisition PC will not be using BioWare Points.

Points lingered into ME3's DLC from what I remember, so my guess is they'll probably stick around for DAI. But as far as I know, no official statements have been made one way or the other.

Don't hold your breath - some of us are still waiting for an update with regards the (non)availability of CE's in Europe.

Thought they had sold out. Or were they not available in the first place?

Ah, I should have said CE's for PC. Not to derail the thread, but your man Derek said back in May:

Greetings:

I know there has been a lot of confusion about the editions for Dragon Age: Inquisition and what comes with what on which platform in each part of the world. We are working with all our partners to try and get the messaging straightened out and we hope to have a clear update for you in the next few days.

And we've heard f-all from him since. Like I said. Don't hold your breath.

Also hoping they do away with that nonsense. You have Origin now, let me buy the DLC like I buy any other game on there.

In that case, the information came from other channels via the website, blog posts, and other employees on the forums. There was nothing more for me to add, so don't take a lack of a specific reply from me to mean anything. There are many people who can share information that work here.

If they keep that abomination of Payment model it might just get me to cancel my preorder and wait for the GOTY-Edition.

I certainly don't have any patience to deal with those stupid Bioware Points anymore.

Please discontinue Bioware points.  It's just an unnecessary extra step to make a purchase.

Pretty much all other companies have phased out the point system in favour of using cash values so it just makes sense to follow up and remove them.

Bioware points really do need to die in a fire at this point, it's such a dated payment model. Even more so now that EA is trying to push origin.

Oh Maker... I'd forgotten about the atrocity that is Bioware points.

I kind of hope they'll allow both methods. I still have a fair number of points on my account and I'd hate to see those obsolesce before my eyes...

I still have B.points and was planning to use on DAI, but if they get rid of them I guess I'll just buy something for ME2/3.

This so much.

Extra step to buy = annoying = lost customers.

I cant speak on the initial decision but I found them handy in a way that, I wouldnt have to re-enter my credit card everytime I wanted to buy something new. With the advancement of remembered cards, I think its less of a factor now mind you.

To note, I dont actually know what is happening with them.

That's actually not a bad argument, for something like MS points for Xbox Live before they did away with it, where you make frequent purchases but for selling DLC for one specific company's games, is it really that inconvenient to enter the card details once every few months for the release of a new DLC?

My main beef isn't so much with the actual points but (and this was true for MS points too) that you can't buy them in amounts that make sense with how the end product is priced. So you end up with 140 points (or some other random number left), but the cheapest thing for sale is 200 points. Then you buy another batch of points, and now you're 20 points over the price you needed points for.

Well with other points cards they could be used to buy anything on there console/service so from that perspective a Points card just for Bioware games can be limiting.

If, however they added a wallet system to Origin so people could store actual cash then it can be seen as the best of both points of view:  You can make a one time purchase up front and it is streamlined so you don't have to buy points first then buy the content.  Then you can use the content in the wallet to buy other things on Origin which really gives the consumer more flexibility than Bioware points.

I am not arguing against that, but for myself I started into bioware games a year after mass effect 2. By that point there was 5 different DLCs so was convenient in that regard.

It only happened because of Microsoft's xbox live points system. With that dead now I doubt BW will do that.

We should have some clarity on this subject sometime this month.

Hope all DLCs can finally experience a modicum of discounts and price cuts just as the full game, with no further complexities attached.

Basically, more customer friendly.
