Can you "fire" an advisor?

Just curious.  I know we'll be able to tell comanions to take a hike.  Are the advisors protected or can we simply not talk to them?  In at least one playthrough I plan to never, ever, speak to Leliana even if it means I lose out on experience and quests.  In that playthrough she's kinda like Zevran was to Ignacio.  "You are already dead.  Make sure I don't learn otherwise."

Does anyone else think along these lines or am I being an idiot?

I don't think advisers will go away only, or at least not in the ways you describe, because there is nobody to replace them unlike companions.

I can live with them not being replaced.  I just am asking if anyone thinks they'll be able to go away if their services are not required.

OK.  I'm trolling because I think that she's special in a way I can never hope to be and I hate her because of it.  The fact remains that there are people out there who want to be allowed to be the hero of the story.  A pat on the head isn't going to satisfy the lust for blood that comes from having your ego taken down a peg or two and it would be really cool to address this at some point.

Sorry, but I don't think we can just ditch our advisers.  They seem to be vital to running the Inquisition, and you probably need them for good reasons, like "they're the only person that knows how to do (insert something necessary to move the plot ahead here)!"  I don't think you should be worried about them diminishing your Inquisitor's importance, though.  After all, you're the only person that can seal tears in the Veil.  That's something they'll never be able to do.  ;P

I believe it's been said that no, no we can't.

Which is a shame. I like Cullen well enough but the man isn't qualified for the task he's been given.

lol... sorry, you're going to have to learn to deal with Leliana somehow.  You can probably just ignore her and disagree with her strategies though.  I mean, I doubt that the game will force you to follow her advice...  If you're the sneaky type who loves espionage, however... that's probably the only spymaster you're gonna get.

I completely understand what you are saying on an intellectual level.  I agree with you too, for what it's worth.  I realize that my own insecurity is what makes me hate her so much but the fact remains that I do.  I know it's part of the plot and there's a story we're going to learn about and she's instrumental in whatever it is that makes Dragon Age a different world than Neverwinter Nights.

What would make me delighted beyond imagining is an optional, DLC, version where you get to degrade her the way her existence degrades the PC.  I've no interest in watching her being tortured or abused.  I want to be able to tell her once and for all that thank you, your services are no longer required.

lol and we as inquisitor are qualified? Someone who just pops out of the fade with glow hands...I think Cullen qualifies more than we do.

That's what I'm afraid of.  I do love to play my rogues and espionage is going to be a big part of most of my games.  I'll have to stick to head-canoning, I guess.

Given that our task is closing fade tears and we're the only one capable of closing fade tears, yes, I'd say we're qualified.

Cullen, however, is a glorified prison warden. That doesn't qualify him as a military leader.

Yeah but we don't need to lead the inquisition to do that, and that wont be our only task.

Like him or not, Cullen was (and maybe still is) a Knight-Captain of the Templars, second only to Meredith.  I think he knows a few things about leadership.

Apparently we're pretty good at negotiating a deal.

"What's that? Want the rain of demons to stop? Alrighty, just put me in charge and I'll get it done. Oh? You wanted to be the leader? Well good luck solving this problem on your own. Yea, yea, that's what I thought."

There are managers at walmart who know a few things about leadership, that doesn't make them qualified to lead military campaigns.

And, like I said, I do like Cullen. He's probably my third favorite non-companion character in dragon age, behind Duncan and the Arishok.

Probably wont be as efficient without our advisors...advising us

i don't think we can fire them... i don't think we will be able to make them cry and quit the job either

'you're tough'; 'it's a long story'; 'it'll be allright' is not much of a choice btw... where is my 'yeah, i'm still waiting for that report you know? i've send you the memo last month, for Maker's sake'

EDIT:

those dialogue choices are from Redcliffe Castle, when inquisitor finds Leli. i think it's pretty cruel and mean thing to say, when she's bound and tortured and stuff. but i want to be able to say something cruel and mean to people - 'it's a long story' doesn't cut it

I think maybe a police captain would be a more fair comparison, unless you're familiar with a Walmart that arms its employees with state of the art weaponry?  I mean, it's true that Cullen isn't a general or anything, be we aren't fighting a war... if anything this is a series of small-scale conflicts involving multiple factions (from what I've seen).  The Inquisition seems more like peacekeepers than an actual military force...

Agreed.  I don't like the idea of being unable to reprimand agents who fail...  maybe that will be in the final game, however... who knows.

Well my initial comparison was prison warden, which is the most accurate description of Cullen's job history.

And as far as I'm concerned, we're at war with the whole of the fade.

Do you have an issue with Leliana because of Halamshiral, or something else pertaining to her as being a "special" person (as you say later)? I remember someone else bringing that up in the Leliana thread, and I could see why that might cause the protagonist to take issue with Sister Nightingale.

However, I have to concur with the others and say I think it's unlikely the advisers can be fired. This is likely why the advisers were brought into the proto-Inquisition prior to the protagonist becoming the Inquisitor. However, I doubt you have to get along with anyone you dislike. There seem to be multiple dialogue options, as well as choices to chose the tone of the dialogue your character is speaking.

I always give Cullen a wink, because he's never claimed to be anything other than what he is.  He's not the Maker's chosen.  He's a guy in a metal suit making some pretty raw decisions and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  Morrigan's not an advisor, but I give her the same leeway.  I guess the problem here may have to do with my own faith and spirituality, since what I hate most is that someone is chosen by the deity.  I sort of wish if it had to be someone why couldn't it be me?

I don't know why you'd want to fire them. You can't run an organization as big as the Inqusition itself. Feel free to use them as professionals.

There are plenty of reasons why one may want to fire them, but they fall into two main categories; either you don't trust them(due to their own personal agendas and politics) or you think they're not qualified for their position.

I think there should have been two options per advisor position, but I can see why they didn't do that for practical reasons.

It appears the Inquisitor is viewed with some religious significance, given what the developers have said (and I theorize it's tied to where the cataclysm takes place). Apparently, people even comment on it, and it's up to the player to decide how to respond to it. If you're playing as a human protagonist, then it seems you're going to be the one who will be viewed as the Maker's chosen, rather than Leliana.
