Hello Boyos and Gals,

I wanted to ask my fellow forum readers the following questions; and based in those results build a nice little guide in order to answer other people what would be the correct way of how to get into the Extended Universe of Mass Effect.

That being said, i wanted to know the order of novels, moreover, is there anything else I should read? maybe comics and stuff like it. Please bear in mind I would like  to get everything digital, since where I live there is a Government Imposed-Embargo (which only let's you bring yo the country two things per anum -mail-wise-).

Thanks to everyone!

I don't know the comics off the top of my head, but I think the Mass Effect wiki could get you your answers

My only advice, don't read the last novel, Deception, it was authored by an outside writer.  Its poorly written and riddled with lore errors.

Was this the Mass Effect Wiki site as I got the list as this

(1) Evolution, (2) Foundation issue 1, (3) Revelation, (4) Foundation issue 4, (5) Foundation issue 10, (6) Homeworld issue 1 (7) Foundation issue 9, (8) He who laughs best, (9) Homeworld issue 2, (10) Foundation issue 2 (11) Foundation issue 3, (12) Mass Effect, (13) Mass Effect Galaxy, (14) Incursion, (15) Foundation issue 5, (16) Foundation issue 6, (17) Redemption, (18) Foundation issue 7, (19) Foundation issue 8, (20) Foundation issue 11, (21) Foundation issue 12, (22) Ascension, (23) Homeworld issue 3 (24) Paragon Lost, (25) Mass Effect  2, (26) Retribution, (27) Inquisition, (28) Deception, (29) Arrival DLC, (30) Conviction, (31) Invasion (32) Infiltrator, (33) Homeworlds issue 4, (33) Mass Effect 3

If you what to go step further and what to travel the time line then read the first chapter of Revelation before Evolution, play the Eden Prime mission of Mass Effect before Homeworld issue 2, Play the mission before the intro on Mass Effect 2, Watch the first half of Paragon Lost (when the 2 years gap happens ) Before Homeworld issue 3. Not sure when Foundation issue 13 is going to go

Also you can get the Blasto and He who laughs best with Foundation volume 2 ( issue 5-8 in one book) Inquistion come with on of the Homeworld issue not sure which one

I just realized, that list is missing two Foundation issues. So yeah, Mass Effect Wiki is obviously the better one

Out of the books I would recommend only the ones that have Captain Anderson in them the rest you can skip. The people before me have provided quite and exhaustive list of comics so there is nothing to add there. Also watch Paragon Lost, try to overlook the flaws both from in-universe and from animation but it should give you a better idea what James Vega is talking about.

Look, stay away from Deception. Bioware themselves made it clear that it wasn't cannon.

Also on the whole timeline I could help you, but Foundation and Homeworlds (For example, you need to read the comic before rescuing tali on the Citadel; play ME2 prologue, read ascencion and others, return to the game...) pretty much screws it up, I get confused everytime I read these, 'cause there are large (time)gaps within them.

As for Mass Effect Galaxy, I gave up on finding it... no success.

If you want any reccomendation about which novel is the best, it's Revelation. IMO. Of course, each one I've read were awesome too.

Now, the comics... Well, I can't really decide it. Oh, He Who Laughs the Best is available online, just google it... I would pass the link but I'm in a Tablet.
Blasto comic is cannon, in a manner of speaking(typing? Lol), since he makes part and is mentioned on Shepard's timeline and Virmire events are re-told in the comic. But the whole comic could be a movie, IDK.

Stay away from Foundation and Deception. No jk.

Indeed.

Novel Deception is just hilariously bad, but still insulting. All the problems of that novel are listed in this. There's also that hilarious fanmade comic made too, so I hope someone can provide the link.

Foundation comics are just bad. Just irredeemably horrible. Story is bad and boring. Characters are bad and annoying. Artwork is awful and artists can't draw humans at all, let alone aliens. Entire series is pointless too as it leads to nowhere, reveals nothing new or interesting. It's just a waste of time. Do not bother.

From what I read of Foundation [mind you, I only read 2 issues before deciding to wait until Library Edition vol 2 to come out to finish], it is no worse than the other comics. It is Cerberus heavy, but that's to be expected considering Brooks.

Here is the Deception rage comic link:
