And same with Lel if she kills this dude, I don't mind her doing it, character agency is cool, I do however want the chance to send her away/tell her off/limit her power after this if she did it against orders.

That would also be fine.  Assuming everyone didn't just get wiped out except for the Inquisitor and Dorian, Leliana should face some kind of disciplinary measures.  And of course, those who don't think she did anything wrong are free to say "you did good back there, kid" or whatever...

Either way the Inquisitor acquires the amulet in both situations. One simply deals with the potential immediately.

Or, what if the time saved by not having to fight Alexius (who we quickly kill while he is distracted by the feigned return of his son) allowed us to complete the ritual before the demons could arrive to stop us, thus possibly saving the lives of Sera and Iron Bull?

What if Alexius could be convinced to help fend off the demons in exchange for his son's continued existence? Who says we actually have to release Felix if Alexius gives up the amulet?

Saying "either way, we get the amulet" is just thinking with video game logic, not pragmatism.

I dont think a lot of you understand that just because the Inquisitor didn't say "Don't kill Felix" that means it's okay for Leliana to kill him. Just because Inquisitor didn't say 'No' doesn't mean 'yes'.
Self action even when lacking orders is still insubordination

He might have had information he would've been willing to share.

He seemed to regret what he's done and how majorly he screwed up, what's from stopping him to offer some help.

I make it a point of not trusting anyone who has practiced in necromancy and recently attacked a village,if that person has valuable info then he can reveal right before death.

It doesn't take a genius to realize the guy with rotting skin is either dead or in extreme unpleasantness if alive. And one of the three options given was "Give him a merciful death". Especially since Dorian, the man who knows them and has knowledge of necromancy, is shocked and appalled at what Alexius did to his son, so if you want an expert's opinion there you go.

It is pragmatic to half your enemies fighting strength. Plus this is the character who went to spy on them for us. She has much more knowledge on how trustworthy Alexius is than we do.

Too much of an opportunity cost. I'm entirely willing to risk fighting a second mage in a boss battle for the chance at avoiding the fight altogether and getting information from Alexius. And it wasn't her call to make regardless.

Now why would anyone reveal info before death if the cliche didn't demand it?

You just fatally wounded me, might as well take my information to the grave and never know what and why I did what I did to this village.

No they would reveal the info or get killed,a dying informant serves no use.

That doesn't really hold water. Whether or not our PCs are avatars is entirely up to the player. My first and "canon" Inquisitor is sure as hell not going to be one.

And that is YOUR choice as a player. But you don't hold any influence over the perceptions of NPCs, or in general: in-world characters.

You could also wait and see whether the context actually applies. How do you know you lead anything at that point? How do you know Leliana serves you at that point? Be careful of your assumptions... particularly when it comes to a plot that you're only half-seeing, and during which we removed any portions of the dialogue that were too spoilery.

Just thought it would be an interesting point of discussion, Assumptions are all we really have to go on until we actually play the game.

I admit though I often speak in character sometimes on the forums so my comments most like sounded quite negative, I apologise if that's the case.

You said you wouldn't trust the info of a necromancer who attacked a village.

And why would he tell you anything? I doubt he'd be that dumb as to believe you'd let him live after you get what you want.

Pragmatism usually means thinking of the best way to get something done with the least amount of risk, for example there are a couple of robbers who are holding up a bank, you are armed and they aren't looking your way.

What do you do in this situation?

Option A:Wait until the police come despite knowing that the robbers will take hostages including you.

Option B:Get into a shoot out and risk being killed because they have the numbers advantage.

Or Option C:Wait until the robbers have their guard down and then quickly pull out your weapon and shoot them dead.

Either of those options have risks but only one has little to none.

Yeah cool, but what does that have to do with this:

Wait a minute, haven't you been arguing that we should be handling our IC morality by Thedas' rules and not our own world's?

Deception works.I'd just lie and say I will let him go as long as he tells us everything he knows and then kill him afterwards.

If that does'nt work out then torture and interrogation are the second options.

Yeah cool, but what does that have to do with this:

It doesn't. But then again, I have never presumed to tell people how to roleplay their characters. What I have been arguing in the apst, is that we cannot expect characters in the world, to have knowledge or understanding of concepts that has not yet been invented.

Correct, and Leliana killing Felix right off the bat is not the best way to obtain the amulet with the least amount of risk.

Really? Is that before or after Leliana kills his son?

He's a magister and he's from Tevinter, you're just some guy/gal with a glowing green hand to him. You really think he'd fall for your tricks?

Yeah cool, but what does that have to do with this:

People tend to do strange things when under the threat of dying, even the most stone faced person would fear death.

Well, unless we've somehow been removed from command of the Inquisition or have not yet taken command of it, which seems unlikely as Alexius makes a reference to "your assassins," Leliana is a subordinate adviser to us.

Considering the Inquistor has a organization behind them then yeah Alexius would do well to cooperate.,only a fool would push his luck instead of complying.

"It doesn't matter now. All we can do is wait... for the end."

Clearly, Alexius is already operating on the assumption that he's going to die regardless, even before the Inquisitor walks in the room. Threatening him with death is going to accomplish f*** all.

Once Felix is dead we have literally nothing to bargain with.

You assume absolutely anyone would do anything for the chance to live.

I'm just gonna be a jerk and burst your bubble that there exist some people who would rather die for what they believe in, their cause etc etc.

And DA's inquisition isn't the same as the spanish inquisition as to strike fear in people.

i'm willing to listen to reason. i'm sure Alexius is as well. if you are sure you can control those rifts and demons pouring out of them... sure, go ahead, have fun conquering Thedas, i'll leave you to it old, crafty chap. i'd expect Leli to attack me.

if not... huh that's exactly the kind of linearity i dislike.

sadly, i don't think plot will give me such freedom of choice.
