Anyone that betray me. That usually happen naturally based on how I role-play my character.

  • Zevran tried to kill me, this mean he is dead, dead, dead. I'll never trust an assassin.
  • I decided to make Loghain a warden for redemption reasons and Alistair showed he had the maturity of a toddler. Good riddance.
  • Morrigan showed she only cared about herself when I refused the dark ritual. Another good riddance.
  • I didn't like the raider Isabela so she left and never came back. Still hate her for the mess she left behind too.
  • Anders blew up the Chantry and used me to do it, he didn't get to run away. Still annoyed how this was handled though. Meredith and Cullen should have dealt with it that was their job, not mine.

In DAI this mean:

IronBull might not be recruited if I play someone who don't like the Qunari.

Varric might get booted if he complains too much about traveling around.

Cole might not be recruited or banished if I play someone who don't like spirits. Same goes for Solas in a way.

My anti-templar characters might have problem with Vivienne, Cullen, IronBull and probably others.

Depending on Vivienne's agenda she might get the boot too.

If Sera is too annoying she might get the boot too.

I will of course not do that every playthrough.

The only party member I ever flat out hated in the Dragon Age series to date was Alistair. I could not stand his character, his voice, or his smugly face. I had him executed in all my play throughs and I loved romancing him and then cheating on him with Zevran. It was great. It was doubly great knowing I was gonna send him to the block each time.

DA2 the only character who I really appreciated was Merrill. Ok, Bethany was pretty cool and I guess Varric. But I never disliked any that I had to turn them away.

I hope they all have a place in Inquisition and none of them are as annoying as Alistair.

I try to do something different in every playthrough in the DA series. There might also be a "everyone is going to hold hand and get along" playthrough, has much has the game allows.

I'm going to do my best to kill of Leliana, if it's even possible.  Because Bioware may as well have pulled a Jacob with her character.  She went from super loveable and adorable in DA:Origins to completely and utterly detestable in the sport span on a gameplay demo.  I don't even want to know what she's like in the full game.

I usually try to keep my companions alive and happy.

If they are annoying , well I leave them at the camp.

I think Vivienne , and maybe Cassandra are going to be my DAI Morrigan and Sten.

I really like them but I can't take them anywhere , they disapprove all the time they're driving me insane.

Of course I'm pretty sure my first playthrough is going to be chaotic, but in DA companions always grow on me after playing the game a couple of time.

Please don't.

I wonder if companions will react to your choices even when they aren't present for them? I know this hasn't been the case in previous games, but word must get around, especially if you're going to be surrounded by a bunch of other people (since, you know, your base is a keep).

I'll "forget" to recruit Varric or send him away if he's an automatic recruit.  But I won't kill him unless he gives me an in-game reason, which I doubt he will.

I think everyone will know what you did for important choices. But I doubt we will get this for every random quests.

It's going to be fun going back to Skyhold , so who's going to scream at me this time?

No, the only character I've wanted to kill is Anders because of what he did in DA2.

Me too. I didn't care too much for Merrill, Sebastian, or Anders but I didn't want any of them dead during my play through. I just never used Merrill as much, Sebastian was preachy but he had some qualities I liked so I took him along sometimes. Anders, I just wanted to report and have the Templars take him away. He was too unstable to have around and was dragging my group down even before the ending. When he blew up the Chantry, I wanted him dead and gone for good.  My Hawke's primary group of friends were Fenris (LI), Isabella, and Varric so I took them almost everywhere with me and preferred the group dynamic with them.

I think it'll be the same for DA:I. I'm going to find those I like the most, those I don't care too much for, and those I hate.

Iron Bull will at some point likely have to choose between the Inquisition and the Qunari.  If he chooses poorly...

Cole might be at risk if the introduction goes wrong.  I expect we'll get on well enough if we can get past first impressions, but if the first impression is creepy demon assassin then that is liable to be a problem.

I don't understand how people can decide on killing or sending away people that they, as a player, have never even met. Like I've seen comments on here of people mostly wanting to kill Cole, because he's a demon.

I mean, why?
Wait, I do understand. It's a videogame. But still, I actually prefer to wait until I meet a character to judge them. Hating or liking them beforehand is only going to influence the way you see these people once you actually meet them for the first time.

Besides, actually investing some time in getting to know a character might be a reward in the end.
Like, I never ever decide on killing a character before I even meet them. That just seems silly to me.

Everybody, at least once.  If I end up playing Inquisition as many times as I played Origins, I'll have multiple Inquisitors and each will have a distinct personality, meaning some companions won't work with them, I'm not going to go out of my way and force my character to say something he would never say just so a companion doesn't leave.

I don't care how nice Cole is if I'm rping an Inquisitor who has a low tolerance for abominations, demons ,et al then he is dead on the spot if I have that option.  If my Inquisitor has inside knowledge from Varric on the Anders situation then it's all the more reason to kill him on sight.

A valid point, but I think you could have chosen a better example.  I'd be hard pressed to come up with a good in-game reason not to avoid Cole, considering how the majority of Thedas's inhabitants feel about spirits and demons...  Hopefully that won't be obvious when he's introduced, or else there's just no way I can justify trying to befriend or work with him...  the ironic part is that he'd probably wind up trying to kill some of my more sinister characters.  You know, the ones who would actually want to deal with demons.

If it comes to that, I'm sure Iron Bull's decision will be based entirely on your interactions with him.

Oh I only mentioned Cole because everyone seems to want to kill him here. I didn't really use him as the example for the rest of my post, as I meant companions in general.

Now, I totally understand telling Zevran to get lost due to the fact that he tried to kill you.  I wasn't particularly tickled by it, either.

But I ask this out of genuine curiosity: why do you come down so hard on Zevran when you're willing to show Loghain mercy?  Might I point out that Loghain left you for dead, and then made multiple attempts on your life -- heck, it was Loghain who hired Zevran to assassinate you in the first place.

@Shark, to be fair if you do show Zevran mercy and let him join you he'll try to kill you again if you haven't built enough rep with him. Loghain doesn't do that if you recruit him.

Well Loghain wasn't with you for that long. I think if he was, then down the road he would've tried to take over and fight the blight in his own way that he thought was better.

I'm going to try and get rid of Leliana and Cullen, if not outright kill them. Party members are a wait-and-see thing.

There are demons pouring out of the sky slaughtering people. Abominations are some of the most terrifying and deadly creatures in the setting.

This is like asking 'Why would Ellen Ripley want to kill a xenomorph before getting to know it? Maybe it's a sweet and lovable xeno who just wants to be friends.'

But still, I actually prefer to wait until I meet a character to judge them. Hating or liking them beforehand is only going to influence the way you see these people once you actually meet them for the first time.

It's called role-playing. No one has said they hated Cole. They've said they're probably going to kill him or not have him in the party.

That said, I have met the characters. The marketing material is their introduction to the player. I have judged characters on what I know of them. I see nothing wrong with these introductions influencing me.

Well Loghain wasn't with you for that long. I think if he was, then down the road he would've tried to take over and fight the blight in his own way that he thought was better.

He already tried to do that and failed. It makes no sense to retry again. Also Loghain strikes me as having a bit of honor. He kept his word and joined the Wardens for better or worse.
