Bioware need to confirm this to us.
I don't understand why they can't talk about it.
Soon is August, and Dragon Age will be available in November.
Multiplayer mode is not a secret to keep hiding in games.

Marketing dolls things out slowly. We didn't know MP was available for ME 3 until about three months before the game, even though I remember a bunch of rumors and speculation.

This.

We can run the same arguments round and round again if we want, but I suspect we won't know any more (or confirmation of less) until Gamescom, at the earliest.

I almost didn't buy ME3 because of the multiplayer.

Really wish I'd listened to that instinct.

From what I've read here, it wasn't MP you'd a problem with but SP and how Bioware made the mistake with the points. MP was purely gameplay/combat.

No, not most. But enough.

ME3's MP was extraordinarily successful, far more than the team had anticipated.

There is a market for microtransactions in videogames, even AAA ones. I'm sorry if you don't believe this, but it's true. In ME3's case, the profits paid for five extra DLC packs that were released for free.

A fan could pay nothing, get five DLC packs, and keep playing the multiplayer for hundreds and hundreds of hours. That's a pretty damn good deal, if you ask me.

^ This!

I loved the ME3 Multiplayer! I bought like 2 packs when I had some leftover MS points but it was the free DLC that made me keep coming back! The RPG mechanics were perfect too. If they keep a similar system for multiplayer in (maybe) this and (definitely) Mass Effect Next then I will be happy.

Hoarding a major game mechanic until the last minute doesn't strike me as  dolling things out slowly.  More like hiding something they know some people aren't going to want to hear.

And it was more like 5-6 months before the game.  Of course it did get leaked early...

How is this a bad thing, exactly?

It's not exactly surprising that marketing and business people act like marketing and business people.

Maybe they're still working on it? Sometimes, modes like multiplayer get scrapped at the last minute because they couldn't get them to function properly or add anything of value to the game. It could be one of the main reasons why the game got delayed, you never know.

My memory is fuzzy; so someone correct me if I'm wrong; but wasn't the ME 3 MP officially announced within 3 months of the game's release?

If that is the case, then the Gamescon in August would fall within the same parameters.

I'll be happy when mp is announced so that the small number of people thinking it is the devil incarnate that will ruin the single player game can bugger off.  We all know that will not happen, these types will for sure buy the game, will for sure click mp menu once just so they can say they really did hate it after trying it and then can have a totally 'legit' reason to believe that every ill no matter how big or how small of the sp game is because of mp.

I still do not see what is wrong with Bioware, just saying yes we have mp and more will be said on x date or no we do not have not have mp. It would shut this debate down as if it is included then the sp group would have to either like it or lump and the mp group would rejoice.

Yet purely this is just speculation and until then our passionate arguments could mean nothing in the end, I hear the arguments of marketing yet, a simple yes or not is hardly going to destroy it or maybe I am just being ignorant of the bigger picture of Bioware yet I am just a simple customer who wants a simple answer.

Basically it has to do with production and marketing, even though the game is in a polishing stage anything can be removed or added before it goes gold. So most corps choose not to say anything on some issues untill they have a final product.

Just my two bits.

I really doubt if MP is in the game that giving just a 'yes, it's in' would suffice.  That wouldn't be good enough for anyone, and speculation would just increase to full force.

Personally, I think they haven't said 'no' because it is going to be a part of the game.  I expect something being announced at Gamescom one way or the other since it'll be roughly 3 months out at that point (which I don't really think is last minute).

Ah, my mistake then.

Was it the MP demo that I was thinking of then? Because that would also fit into the approaching Gamescon as players could get hands on time with the MP and experience it first hand.

I guess they would've announced it if it was ready a couple of months ago. As I said, they're still probably trying to figure it out and get it working. Maybe Gamescom is their big reveal like everyone says. But then, E3 was also supposed to be their big reveal and we got almost nothing.

A 35-minute demo isn't really nothing.

They might have more important concerns than a fight on their forums about multiplayer, though. It's not as simple as just coming here and confirming whether it's in or out - they have to think about marketing, PR, getting the media to cover the reveal, organising information or videos to go up online, and coordinating with retailers and stores so that they can advertise the new feature.

If they want the big reveal to blow people away, talking about it now is the wrong idea.

Achievements being fake or not, I still believe they'll announce MP at Gamescom.

Super excited to attend #gamescom2014 this year. We have lots of new and special #DragonAgeInquisition things to show you! #BioWare

Did I say how excited I was for #gamescom2014 ? lets just say that what you will see there from #BioWare will smash your expectations. Yes.

Those tweets especially. I don't see anything NEW they could show us that would smash our expectations. Unless it's MP of course, which they never denied they just "couldn't talk about it".

Hunh, thanks for posting those tweets, I'd missed the first one.

Edit: And yeah, Gamescom seems like the most likely place to announce it.

The only real big things left are the CC, Skyhold/war table, and crafting. I could see Allistair's claim applying to any of these.

I just think the lack of a 'no' and the timing is right for a MP reveal at Gamescom. I'm kind if tempering my expectations to be honest, though.

You're right. Devs tend to overhype smaller things too - or maybe that's mostly us :P

Also the 2nd tweet doesn't really mention DA and they are gonna about that "Shadow Realms - You have been chosen" game for sure.

I think it's more likely that, given the resistance to BioWare's MP endeavor's, they want to show the Multiplayer at the announcement, rather than just say "Yeah, it's in there somewhere, no, you can't see it" which would then inundate Twitter and BSN with whining, protests, petitions and "Pre-order canceled" threads.

Though just so we're clear, I think your theory is a very close 2nd.

There's several things which they've said "Yeah it's in there somewhere, no you can't see it"

Nothing that quite elicits this kind of response out of people that I can think of.
