ok, moving along now...

do many people particularly bother about achievements enough to do multiple playthroughs just to achieve them?
I thought they were a nice bit of fun, but I don't know if they are taken very seriously by some?

Eh if i enjoy a game i do multiple playthroughs regardless. I only start nosing at achievement lists when ive got mildly bored of my usual 'goody two-shoes' style of gameplay and i want to shake it up a little. Though even then it varies, i think i unlocked all achievements for me3 and da2, but im still missing quite a lot of the combat ones for DA:O (in fact one popped up the other day out the blue, didnt even know it existed lol)

As someone who feels compeled, willingly or otherwise, to achieve 100% completion in my games, I prefer when they limit themselves to usful things, collecting all the codex entries I'm game for, defeating 1500 wild animals is pointless.

And for immersion, what's the point of 'collectibles'?

Yeah, that's the thing. That's exactly the thing, really. I go into games because I love the idea of compelling interactive narratives and excellent immersion. This mentality really limits the number of games I enjoy, but it's a double-edged sword: I save a lot of money, after all!

But collectibles aren't my schtick because I just feel like I'm working when I do that. It doesn't tie into why I like to play games. I can respect that it's an integral part of the experience for many, but yeah. For me, it's kind of the reason I can't see to stick with a franchise like Assassin's Creed. I really dig the ideas, but the games feel too game-y somehow, with all those in-your-face UI's and messages and visible secondary objectives and such. I guess it can be argued that, being that you're inside a simulation of sorts, it's a logical implementation, though.

It's a huge part of why a couple of my friends have given up on trying to get me to buy a gaming PC and play MMOs with them, too. If and when I've attempted the genre, I just wander around forests soaking in whatever ambiance is available to me until I've gotten bored and logged out. >_>;

I'll try to get every codex entry because I want to read every codex entry, at least, so what I've been going on about this past few posts does have some limitation. I like getting things when there's a tangible reward about the getting of said things and it's something I enjoy. I find all the treasures in Zelda games because they're giving me stuff. I go for a couple of special accomplishments in my Metal Gear runs because they're giving me stuff. I try to find a bunch of codex entries in BioWare games because yay, lore! So if there's a reward and it isn't simply a marker of achievement I'm down, so long as I really dig the game.

I HATE collecting things for an achievement. It's just so tedious and yes I do feel I "achieved" something.... but it's mixed with a feeling of anger and stress that makes me want to stop playing the game because apparently I'm playing "Where's Waldo".....

When it comes to achievements my opinion is very simple. Note that my opinion may be considered slightly offensive to others, so I put it in spoiler tags. If you are easily offended / dont have a thick skin you may not want to view it.

It's not that I'm offended. I'm just confused. As in, I'm not really understanding the difference. I guess what you're saying is that you detest console controls/interface/etc to the point where it becomes an awful experience for you?

Honestly, your opinion isn't offensive so much as it just seems stupid. Achievements are exactly the same on every single platform. A meaningless bit of fluff designed to encourage replays of games. People tend to say opinions can't be wrong, but this is probably the closest I've ever seen to someone having a wrong opinion. Not to mention that it's just needlessly inflammatory. You could just as easily have expressed your opinion without trying to start a console war, but you had to do it anyway.

The official timeline on the DAI website, makes explicit mention of corypheus, and according to the leaked achievement list he is in it. I also noticed there is no mention of anything from MOTA..

This leak is looking more  and more likely to be legit.

"Hawke Attempts to Destroy Corypheus

Hawke enters the Warden prison in the Vimmark Mountains and attempts to destroy Corypheus. History is vague on when exactly this occurs."

Hawke 'attempts,' disaster follows.

Yeah, given how little is on the timeline, it's interesting this was included.

I would love it if Cory came back. Legacy is the best piece of content in DA2 IMO, and having some sort of closure for that chapter would be pretty awesome. Especially if I can brag to Hawke about how I finished his job for him if you can kill Cory before you run into him. :P

I have no idea what value achievements add to those that play a game several times.

I know I like them and they've caused me to do multiple playthus for games, as well as extended my first playthru of a game. As I understand it, they're also relatively easy to include.

The Cory stuff is where I hope Hawke appears. They got history with him and it seems right to finish him off together.

Eh... well, thanks for explaining, but I am not only a console gamer but possibly what you'd deign as "part of the problem" in that I'm not particularly interested in games being challenging, I just want to have fun with good stories and strong atmosphere. I can't stand keyboard/mouse controls, even though I recognize their increased capabilities and respect those that have walked a different path in life and by contrast can't fathom someone who would wish to use a console controller.

So none of what you've said really has much meaning to me, nor bearing on my experience. But honestly, that's to be expected, given that as I said earlier in the thread, achievements themselves are nothing more than a sound effect I occasionally bump into.

Meh. I'm going to say real if only because we've never had a fake leak before. Unless Bioware leaked it purposefully after Mass Effects wonderful one...

It's in the back of this white van I have, along with all the ice cream you could ever want.

Step right in...

I made fake leaks for DA:O, DA II, and DA:I. For awhile, people thought that Dragon Age (pre-Origins) would have Chinese style dragons.

So somebody's leaked stuff from the Keep?

I knew it was only a matter of time. Not surprise that BW has been deleting threads on it.

I like Achievements as long as they are not Multiplayer achievements, finish the game on an ultra hard mode or forcing me to make a choice I don't want to.

I've been thinking of doing something like that for DAI, but it's too much of a time investment for the little bit of amusement it would give me when everyone thinks it's true.

Unfortunately, I don't recall any of your fake leaks, many of your other threads yes, but not the leaks.

This makes me sad.

They were usually no more than an image and people figured it out quickly.

It's more for fun than actually tricking people.
