It simply crosses the line for me. That is, if it actually DOES wind being about that. The fact that both you and he (she?) don't get that vibe encourages me that I might be wrong.
Fair enough. Thank you for the clarification.
I mostly didn't understand why you were coming from that perspective. I grew up in the 80s, when you would have had people claiming that Dragon Age summons the entire devil to teach you magic - not far off from what some people believed about Dungeons & Dragons.
Shadow Realms looks kind of JRPGish
So basically BioWare's version of Fable Legends/Evolve...
Well that's interesting I guess...
They worked up all this hype, and when they actually announce it lost all interest as soon as they said 4v1.

It's Dungeonland albeit a darker version.
...That's what happens when DA2 mates with Diablo 3.....I guess... ![]()

"Interesting, I guess" sums up the overall reaction (from myself and others).
Signed up for Alpha and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it/playing it, but not particularly excited.
The description of the game appeals to me personally, but not significantly.
Moving on! ![]()
Eh....looks ok I guess. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Mass Effect, where it's a huge story driven experience with a choice/consequence system.
Have to admit, this was not exactly what I was hoping for. I'm still gonna check it out, probably, but my excitement for the game has lessened considerably after the reveal.

So not a lick of gameplay. Huh.
Did Aaron Flynn talk about the game at all? The only thing I've seen is the latest trailer, and that's hardly more informative except "Dragon Age meets inFAMOUS."

They did give a gameplay demo aswell as a presentation and Q&A at the fan event, some of which is bound to find its way to youtube or official blogs.
I suggest heading to the official website to keep an eye on this. You can also sign up for the alpha and newsletter there.

Thanks.
I don't intend to sign up for the alpha as I don't play online games, but I would love to know more about it.
Edit: Nvm, the other thread has some gameplay http://forum.bioware...w-realms/page-2
I think it looks pretty dumb, especially if that's literally ALL you do in the game.
What does 4v1 mean excactly? 4 players for coop? what does the v1 mean?

4 players versus a single player.
But I think the single player controls enemy units. Can create X amount of them or something. So maybe, MAYBE, RTS-like gameplay for the one, while action RPG gameplay for the 4.
Actually, never mind read this: https://www.shadowre.../about-gameplay

As far as I can see, at this point reiterating we haven't seen nearly all of the game and what we saw is pre-alpha build, the combat parts of the game are a classical dungeon crawl of four heroes working against AI enemies and the Shadowlord.
Those four heroes and the Shadowlord are player controlled, hence the 4vs1.
The Shadowlord itself is like the gamemaster of that particular dungeon (maybe even for a whole episodic campaign, but this is purely speculation from my part) and acts as the primary opponent. Whilst the four heroes try to get through the dungeon and kill the boss to proceed, the Shadowlord is intangible to them and doing everything he can to kill the heroes.
To that end, in this demo we could use abilities like drop bombs, set spike traps, create doppelgangers (a very powerful ability that summoned a clone of one of the heroes to fight them with), or summon beasts/monsters. He can also activate environmental traps like poison wells or hidden sawblades or possess any beast/monster to take control over it (those beasts/monsters have their own ability sets) to try and kill the heroes.
The heroes can not fight the Shadowlord directly, to clear the dungeon they have to get past the boss.
Addendum:
It was ridiculously fun to play (played the assassin (think rogue)) and watching the Shadowlord gameplay was also very interesting.
For EntropicAngel:
I don't really want to quote the devs this early during the game development to engage false hopes, but I heard a lot of questions about PvE as opposed to PvP and I am sure something along that line got answered during the Q&Am but I had my gameplay session when most of the Q&A went ahead so I didn't follow everything.

Thanks for that , it could be interesting.

It's worth mentioning that this is not the Edmonton new IP. So Bioware is concurrently making four different games, which is very interesting.

This is BioWare Austin, yes. Not Edmonton.
It sounds like being a hero will be more like PvE (most enemies are not player controlled) but ultimately PvP (SL is nebulous player presence), while being a shadow lord will be more like PvP (all enemies are player controlled) but with a PvE feel (you manage everything through minions and environmental tactics).
PvP-ish. Co-op-ish. You wanna more work together, be a hero. You wanna crush people, be a shadow lord. This is like Bioware's version of a MOBA so far, trying to read between the lines, haha. And of course, episodic story content instead of just 'hey here's a new hero class' stuff. And large areas instead of an e-sport map.
Sounds like they will be telling a story here, but it isn't about crafting personal player narrative so much as the grouped party/dungeon master (at least partial) experience. You'll get lore as you go along, but not in the way that SWTOR had party members annoyingly spacebar through and/or hold the group back because they wanted to hear everything.
