Confirms what we suspected: It's not the new IP from Edmonton

Aaryn Flynn ‏@AarynFlynn

The new project being talked about is not from the teams at BioWare Canada, and is not the new IP we revealed at E3...

Huh. Interesting.

This combined with the hints at multiplayer, have got me a little worried, but we'll see.

See Bioware/EA, this is precisely why we talk about you having turned to the dark side.

You have a fan base - a sensitive one at that, following DA2 and ME3, you have a lot of us signed up dying to get into the Dragon Age Keep Beta (giving you underserved benefit of the doubt, given recent failures)...and then you pull a stunt like this.

Random PR/Marketing idiot in Bioware offices: "hey guys! You know how we have lots of fans waiting for us to send them an email telling them how to join the Dragon Age Keep beta? Well, I have this amazing not-at-all-evil and stupid idea! Let's promote a completely different franchise, but send the viral teaser trailer in an email that says "YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN"! That way, masses of fans will open it and follow the link, totally fooled by us into thinking it leads to a beta invite! THAT will garner like, SO MUCH more goodwill from the fans that we trick in this way! It will be awesome!"

Yeah...what a "great" idea. Cue hundreds of dislikes on Youtube for your trailer, plus a bunch of fans altering their EA preferences so they NEVER receive any emails from you again. Bridges = burned. And on something completely trivial and pointless.

Please, for the love of God, fire the person that thought this was a good idea. STOP DIGGING, sheesh!

Yes, sending advertisment to fans is the true epitome of evil. Bioware is now oficially worse than the devil himself. Slightly confusing wording that could lead a few fans to a wrong conclusion for the two seconds it takes to actually look at the mail, which is clearly some sort of advertisment with trailer and all? A crime against humanity!

/end sarcasm.

It's probably a minor PR fail, but hardly a reason to react as agressively. Is it really necessary to become overly upset with something as trivial and pointless as this?

To the trailer: It looks interesting. I'd love to see something horror/Sacry -centric from Bioware. They already have some creepy parts in most of their recent games and I liked those passages a lot. I just hope it isn't some multiplayer-focused nonsense because that'd make me loose almost all intersest. On the other hand I personally kind of liked SWTOR as well for a time so I guess I'll wait for more information.

Live action trailer for a game is always a bad move. It seems tacky. I'm interested in what the project is, especially since Bioware is collaborating..

Well, hopefully it's not a browser-based game. Not really interested in any IP involving Mr. Hudson, so if this just turns out to be a hoax then I suppose that'll be the end of my interest there. But that's that anyway.

"GTFO"? That's rather rude towards Bioware, don't you think?

Not at all intended to be rude towards BioWare. I love the company and support them with my money (I have 3 different pre-orders for DAI!) and my incredibly enthusiastic word-of-mouth.

Let's admit it: those of us who love and are addicted to RPGs (and especially the ones BioWare makes, which are my favorite) have long waits between games compared to the yearly shooters and action games. If this is a new IP in the horror genre, it would be a bit of a strange RPG to me. Even if it is, I don't think even I can be persuaded to try a game that will give me nightmares. I don't watch dramatic or scary movies for that reason.   That's where my disappointment comes from, and the comment stems from disappointment. I'll actually be the one to GTFO, since I would have to take a pass on the game.

What's so wrong with Jade Empire that they decided to be 1 and done with that IP?

Also, I would love to understand why so many people seem to love zombie games. I'll die a happy woman if I never have to see another game trailer with zombies in it.

No we should rub it, so they not forget. million times is still not enough, they learn nothing, they just gave us DLC to "explain" ending because we to stupid to understand, and if you want to refuse, ok you can but you die because .... you. At least DA team still awesome.

It has be two years , Bioware and other people have gotten the point by now need to say it again. Trying to "rub it in" after two years is just ridiculous.

@OP Even if this isn't the new IP it still looks interesting so its worth keeping an eye on it.

Personally, I'd rather Obsidian handle that IP, if given the chance - as KOTOR 2 was an example for me, as a superior title in many ways, even though KOTOR is my favourite title from Bioware (holds a special place for my gaming).

Honestly, if they decide to have a heavy driven story/horror element, like Alan Wake for example... oh my god.

But....it was soooo good.  :crying:  I've played it more than a dozen times and I generally hate fighting games. *sigh*

The fact that after the game is finished, every problem is solved, all the antagonists are dead/enslaved and there are zero lose plot lines which could be expanded left?

I'd love a second game, but I personally can't see what it could be about.

Well, you can still do a lot with the lore and expand upon it within hundreds of years being passed and such.  They're talented writers and could work with what is there.  Though, I doubt a sequel will ever happen either.

I think anyone that refused to play horror games needs to grow a pair! Games like Alan Wake and Silent Hill have interesting lore and stories, but thats just my opinion. No offense intended.

Oh, you mean a game that is just in the same setting, not a direct sequel.

Yes that would be possible and nice.

There are some horror games I like, and others I don't. I like ones that are more "eerie" and unsettling than scary. I love the atmosphere of (most) silent hill games for example, though I'm rarely actually rightened by them. I'm thinking this game will fit more in that niche.

There were plans for a Jade Empire sequel, but it was eventually canned because they couldn't figure out how to make the story work amongst other things and they moved on to Dragon Age and Mass Effect, both of which sold much better.

I dislike Jade Empire in many ways... mostly because I am actually Chinese, and I am familiar with Chinese cultures, traditions, contexts and characterizations, and Jade Empire got too many things wrong.  The whole experience just felt, off.

At the time I liked to compare Avatar: The Last Airbender to Jade Empire.  Both were fantasies and mythologies that were based on China, created by white men.  Avatar: The Last Airbender was created by white men who actually knew and understood China and being Chinese, (as amazing as it sounds,) while Jade Empire was created by white men who were... well, clueless about China and Chinese in general, and did not bother to do research.

No offense, just how I felt about the game.  It was still a fun game though.  I just wish it was not set in some mythological Asia.  Playing Jade Empire was like, hm, watching a bad Steven Seagal movie, (I do not remember the title.)   He was supposedly trained and spent years in China, and then he pulled out some ancient scroll that was supposed to reveal some ancient Chinese secrets... and the writings on the scroll was in Japanese.  I'm Chinese, of course I went "WTF?!?"  and had a good laugh.  But if you are white and have rudimentary understanding of Asia and Asians, I suppose it's perfect.

I'm sorry you were offended that it wasn't faithful to your culture. Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about Mortal Combat?

Like Avatar: The Last Airbender, it did not have to be faithful because it was, well, a fantasy setting.  But it's based on Chinese, and so much seems familiar but also completely off at the same time. I'd never got that feeling when I watched the Avatar series, (I was continually amazed by how much the two white-Jewish creators of the show knew about China and Chinese.)

I've never played Mortal Kombat or watched the movies so I can't say.  But I know the chicks in the movies were hot.
