I've never played Mortal Kombat or watched the movies so I can't say. But I know the chicks in the movies were hot.
Okay then, I see where your priorities are! ![]()

I can understand Jade Empire having some objectionable elements, but to be fair, Bioware doesn't exactly create western fantasy games that are faithful to Europe's medieval history and culture, they take vague inspiration and run with it.I dislike Jade Empire in many ways... mostly because I am actually Chinese, and I am familiar with Chinese cultures, traditions, contexts and characterizations, and Jade Empire got too many things wrong. The whole experience just felt, off.
At the time I liked to compare Avatar: The Last Airbender to Jade Empire. Both were fantasies and mythologies that were based on China, created by white men. Avatar: The Last Airbender was created by white men who actually knew and understood China and being Chinese, (as amazing as it sounds,) while Jade Empire was created by white men who were... well, clueless about China and Chinese in general, and did not bother to do research.
No offense, just how I felt about the game. It was still a fun game though. I just wish it was not set in some mythological Asia. Playing Jade Empire was like, hm, watching a bad Steven Seagal movie, (I do not remember the title.) He was supposedly trained and spent years in China, and then he pulled out some ancient scroll that was supposed to reveal some ancient Chinese secrets... and the writings on the scroll was in Japanese. I'm Chinese, of course I went "WTF?!?" and had a good laugh. But if you are white and have rudimentary understanding of Asia and Asians, I suppose it's perfect.

Seriosuly, Guys, What's wrong with BioWare covering new geners? I LOVE horror, But i stopped watching any horror movies and never played any horror game because their storyline is very weak that it disappoints so damn hard at the end. Believe it or not, I still have faith in BioWare, I believe that it's gonna give us the best horror game ever.
Alan Wake, yes.... game needs a sequel.
True dat.

It brings joy to me that all I hear are positive things from the amazing game which is Alan Wake. Guys its not even an lake!
It might not even be directly horror, it can be tied to mystery/paranormal atmospheric type elements that still have a sense of realism towards them at least to a sense that we can relate to. The trailer was pushing the word "dream" - at least the way I viewed it.
Sort of reminded me of Enter the Void DMT sequence... except, not as fucked up, ha.
Not at all intended to be rude towards BioWare. I love the company and support them with my money (I have 3 different pre-orders for DAI!) and my incredibly enthusiastic word-of-mouth.
Let's admit it: those of us who love and are addicted to RPGs (and especially the ones BioWare makes, which are my favorite) have long waits between games compared to the yearly shooters and action games. If this is a new IP in the horror genre, it would be a bit of a strange RPG to me. Even if it is, I don't think even I can be persuaded to try a game that will give me nightmares. I don't watch dramatic or scary movies for that reason.
That's where my disappointment comes from, and the comment stems from disappointment. I'll actually be the one to GTFO, since I would have to take a pass on the game.
What's so wrong with Jade Empire that they decided to be 1 and done with that IP?
Also, I would love to understand why so many people seem to love zombie games. I'll die a happy woman if I never have to see another game trailer with zombies in it.
Oh I totally sympathize with your thoughts and feelings here. I just thought that 'GTFO' was towards Bioware and it sounded especially brutal. Its not their fault if someone doesn't like a theme they're going with. I guess this is because I mentally translate it to literally Get The **** Out.

Yeah in a video from last year, one of the Bioware people (maybe Darrah?) kinda insinuated that if they were to do Jade Empire again, it would have to be more correct in this way. Less of a caricature. At the least, I think they're aware of your criticisms.

Yes. Take their hints about dreams, nightmares, and the stuff hinted in the viral marketing (like the school website), and we probably have a good view of where they're coming from.
All the stuff that was more off to the side in ME and DA will probably be in full focus.

To be fair, I always got the impression Jade Empire was less of an accurate representation of actual Asian culture and more of a tribute to bad martial arts movies. Kind of like Dragon Age is just one more classic Tolkien Clone with some A Song of Ice and Fire thrown in and Mass Effect is just a collage of every science fiction classic ever, with particular influence from Star Trek.

I don't really get a horror vibe from the whole marketing campaign. More like urban fantasy with a dash of horror (which is not all that uncommon), although admittedly the line between the two can be blurry at times and I just may be projecting my expectations. The curriculum in the college website actually makes me think of the premise of a novel called The Magicians which I'm planning to read soon.
I can tell you this much.
Any mention of a MMO/Online game will turn me off faster than anything at this moment,.

I also got a Magicians vibe when I saw the school website. I love that book so I'm hoping it's a good sign.
I'd love an urban fantasy RPG. Even if this new IP isn't that, I hope it's a genre Bioware will explore in the future.

I'd rather see Obsidian do another Fallout or Alpha Protocol tbh.Personally, I'd rather Obsidian handle that IP, if given the chance - as KOTOR 2 was an example for me, as a superior title in many ways, even though KOTOR is my favourite title from Bioware (holds a special place for my gaming).

I'll wait for official word before I completely despair, but that is disheartening.

If this is the team up with the guys from Fallen London, this will probably be another browser game. Which is disappointing. I was hoping we would actually have information about the new IP.

I think the Fallen London team is doing an ARG as a marketing stunt before the actual game is revealed.
The "real game" is called Shadow Realms, made by Bioware Austin. It might be a free to play MMO.
Just caught up to my email and I was chosen. Horror RPG? What is this Nightmare?
Anyone?
Anticipation.... it's making me wait. It's soooo good. It's keeping me wai-ai-ai-ting.
LOL

Just saw this trailer yesterday on IGN. Somebody said it looked like Heavy Rain. Not sure where they pulled that from.

Makes sense considering it's (most likely) coming from the team that made SWTOR.
I'm not too keen on MMOs, even less so if they are free to play. The social aspect always sounds intriguing but at the end of the day they mostly amount to running around doing boring grind. They are like an outdated single player game with a badly told story, just with a lot of other players joining you.
When i first saw the amazing CGI trailers for Secret World and heard it was from the writer of The Longest Journey i was super stoked. Then it came to my attention that it's an MMO. I still played it and it was one of the better MMOs but still an MMO.
